Annihilationism

I'm guessing you think being punished violently and painfully is a piece of cake. What value do you give Eternal Life ?
Would you rather die in your sleep very quickly or would you rather have a horrible disease that took you inch by inch with horrible suffering over 10 years?

What is the definition of "destruction"?

de·struc·tion
diˈstrəkSHən/demolition, wrecking, ruination, blasting, bombing;More
wreckage, ruins
"the destruction by allied bombers"
devastation, ruination, blighting, disfigurement, impairment, scarring, harm, desolation;
informalteardown
"the destruction of the countryside"
  • the action or process of killing or being killed.
"the wanton destruction of human life"
    synonyms:annihilation, obliteration, elimination, eradication, liquidation;More
    killing, slaughter, massacre, extermination
"the destruction of the enemies' forces"
  • a cause of someone's ruin.
    "gambling was his destruction"

:whirl<<<< does that keep going round and round when the laptop is closed ?
I don't know but it makes me carsick if I look at it too long :lol These are subjects that should be discussed.Alot of people believe in it.We need to let people know how wrong it is.Just like universalism and that thread was deleted.

By the context, it in no way denotes some kind of "ruining" but because of the comparison to the man who can but kill the body, the word "destroy" should be the translation as it denotes the utter destruction of the individual as both body and soul are extinguished in hell.

Again, just your opinion. Be careful not to grasp at straws.

If I say, "I'm going to run for president."

or... "I'm going for a run."

Does this mean the same thing? It's the same word right, therefore simply providing a possible definition and inserting into the text we should be fine, right?

As you can see, depending on the context a particular definition is called for, as the first one means that I am going to be a candidate and the second means I am going to go jogging for fitness purposes.

I see you had used two examples of (run). Now use two examples of (destroy). Since I am going to (ruin) that man, that man is thus now in (ruin). Just because that man is now (in ruin) doesn't mean he ceases to exist. (Cause and effect), but we're discussing scripture and if hell is eternal...not someone running for president or a fitness program.

What do you mean?

Evangelists preach with power and passion because the price Jesus paid on the cross was enormous. Dan 12:1-2

Hi Stan,

No, Jesus didn't say eternal fire, that is how the translators have translated "aionios". However, it cannot mean eternal as it's used of things that have ended. We've had a dicsussion of this word in the Conditional Immortality thread that Doulos linked to and in the Body, Soul, Spirit, thread.
If it is not eternal then what is it?Fire that lasts for 20 minutes?
Matthew 25:41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

Daniel 12:2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake,
Some to everlasting life,
Some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Which words from your definition best describes the destruction mentioned in the verse below?

Romans 9
21 Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?
22 What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,
.

actually the ban on the other religions except in certain categories is good. 'discussing' them has led more people AWAY from CHRIST than to HIM.
there's over 1000 other things that "A lot of people believe in" and they are all totally wrong, but there is neither the desire in them, not the time and place here, to try to address all the things that are wrong;
and Jesus did not discuss all the wrong things people believed in(He addressed them very briefly if at all).
He spoke the truth, and people accepted Him and believed Him or not.
When they follow Jesus, all those other things that are wrong fall away, unless they are just trying to be 'safe' with the 'in' crowd with 'god'.

No....people need to be aware and a big red sign needs to be put in their brain BEWARE DANGER. We could tell them why it is wrong and then we have planted the seed. Not the time and place here to discuss something that is wrong? Are we not supposed to be the salt and light of this world as Christians? Are we not suppose to expose the TRUTH?

"TELL the TRUTH" Proclaim the TRUTH --- JESUS !

if you try to expose catholicism, universalism, republicanism, almost any -ism, you will fail. they aren't drawn to their favorite sacred cow being exposed.

Instead tell the Truth , the Good News, talk about JESUS and what HE DID for you. THAT is what the disciples did. When people realized that because of their sinful lives, JESUS DIED a HORRIBLE DEATH as a CRIMINAL hung on a living tree,
then they have a choice -
repent, or reject Him.

but the arguments 'exposing' all the various lies of chrislam, buddya, confusionism, etc etc etc is very very minor --- oh, it gets done, but not by 'discussing' it (as if debating whether it is true or not).

the truth sets people free, IF they know it. talking about all the other false religions doesn't help them to know the truth. even 'christians' who don't know the truth are in trouble - not with other religions, but in themselves with Yhwh - so the truth is critical, life-saving, and required even for christians. (like paul said - it is a safeguard to keep repeating the truth, even though you know it, to be sure that no one is (again) deceived by sin etc etc etc)

It is up to us as Christians to expose what is not the truth. When they have heard what the Holy Bible says then they can make up their own mind. But it needs to be said.

Kathi, even 'christianity' has fallen in many places, and for a long long time. there's still 'good' churches (we hope!), but not all.
taking a stand for the TRUTH is rare, and necessary.
at times other things are exposed as a result. all those are small potatoes compared to the knowledge of JESUS CHRIST as SAVIOR.
and look at the results of forums that 'allow' trying to discuss all those other religions. their towers of babel ! (no sense can be made of them)

GOOD ! YES ! COMPLETE AGREEMENT ---- "what the Holy Bible says" ------

I disagree.Only the truth needs to be said.We do not have to go on and on to express our concerns over this false teaching. Then move on.

do you agree or disagree now ? telling them all that is wrong about their religion is not the same as "Only the truth needs to be said."
I agree that "Only the truth needs to be said" and even more "let all of your words be as the words of Yhwh, and all of your actions be as Yhwh's actions" --- i.e. not our own choice of initiative, but do as Yhwh does, say what Yhwh says. much simpler !
telling the TRUTH is much much much shorter, more direct, simpler and in line with Scripture and Yhwh's directions.

They can be in denial. They can refuse to hear the truth but it is not to their advantage when they come face to face with Jesus Christ and got through their judgment.Jesus will know that they have seen the truth.

right, and where does judgment begin ? "judgment begins in the house of Yhwh" (i.e. with His own people). we need to clean house according to His Word --- or rather , let HIM CLEAN US UP. (and there's ALOT TODO)
