Are The Amish Considered Christians?

post 45 and 51 says that.
these post say using electricity conflict with Baptist teaching. to conflict you would have to have baptist teaching one has to use electricity, or Amish teaching anyone using electricity is not Christian. i am pretty sure neither do this.
the Amish basically are going the extra mile, making an extra effort for the Lord. most Christians praise such devotion, but there will always be those that want to point a finger at this and try and tear it down.
I think you are misreading the posts. What was said in post #45 is this:

"It is not a cult but does have some doctrines that differ with mainstream evangelical Christianity.

Some of these differences would include:
  • Their refusal to use modern technology (however, today some will use solar power - they will not use electricity from the grid);"
Post #51 says:

"When rejection of modern day technology and electricity from the grid becomes part of the legalistic doctrines of a group such as the Amish, it does differ markedly from that taught by evangelical denominations".

There was no claim made that "using electricity conflicts with Baptist teaching," or that Baptists (or anyone) "had to use modern technology or [they] couldnt be part of the church, or were not Christians."

So maybe the Amish may have a reasonable reason for being off the grid. At least it allows them to train up their own children in the way they should go.

Michael,

When I wrote about being "off the grid" I was speaking about electricity and not your allegorical interpretation of what I wrote.

Oops, I accidentally put this video in the wrong thread. If it's too offensive please let me know. I just thought of this song as soon as this topic popped up. :lol

Weird Al is great, and he just got better throughout his career. Look up The Electric Amish on YouTube, start with We Are An Amish Band. From there you'll see lots of other songs they've spoofed (of course they're funnier if you recognize the original song)

Sweet Home Indiana (churn it up)

More of The Electric Amish worth hearing for a giggle

One more, it's so funny partly because you could never guess what song they're spoofing by it's title:

He's From Goshen

The one thing that I noticed is that you cannot buy good custom made furniture from a shipshiwana any more.
It's all factory made stuff.
Yes, it's expensive stuff...but the patterns are the same as brand name stuff across the country.
I was kinda disappointed.

I enjoy the work of unique craftsmanship. From pottery to woodworking and leather goods. I'm willing to pay for it as well. But the stuff I seen in Indiana was carbon copy stuff made in factories everywhere.
So I went online to look some more and seen the same stuff from coast to coast.

The one thing that I found unique in Indiana was a dairy that specializes in cheese. They made a Colby that was actually full flavored. It tasted almost like a cheddar.

Good stuff.
