Ask an Jew Anything on your mind

Greetings everyone. My name is John or Juan. Which ever you prefer to call me. I'm in the process of becoming a Jew; I.E. converting to Judaism. Jews have a different way in conversion. Which is very difficult. Takes time, hard work, study, changes and so forth. I would like to chit-chat with you guys. Answer any question you have about my faith or even myself or my background. Ask me about G-d, Judaism, marriage and sex, how Jews eat and dress. Anything that is on your mind. I would try my best to use my own words and generalize sources. I will included links for you to check out on your own.

You'll find that Christians know alot about Judaism. Since the Hebrew Tanakh is part of our Bible and Jesus was Jewish, it's something we study in depth :yes

You should make your rounds around the Apologetics forum ;)

Why do you deny that Jesus is Messiah?

Why do you deny that Jesus is Messiah?
Trust Hitch to jump right in!

I'm sure he wanted to greet you, welcome you to the forum and thank you for your openness as he asked the "important" question. I'm also fairly sure that you are familiar with the foundation of Christian belief. When I hear you say, "I'm in the process of becoming a Jew," I would be curious to ask where you are coming from? What is your background (before your choice to convert)?

Of course, I'll be interested to hear what you have to say about the one called, "The King of the Jews" too. :yes

Well I wouldn't say we use the just the OT. Our text is actually very different. Being Hebrew and more close to traditional text. From a Jewish POV.

Why do you deny that Jesus is Messiah?

There is actually many reasons why we deny Jesus and others as the Messiah. Which tradition and how Jews view the Messiah concept. You'll be surprised I and many other Jews do not view the state of Israel is not Israel. Since in the Messiah concept the Messiah will find the new state of Israel and bring all the Jewish people back to Israel. More of this later. Now I have a link explaining the Jewish Messiah is supposed to do in order to be the Messiah and his characteristics.

Jesus! That is a first from me in a while. Sorry if I sound rude. But I love going into detail about my past. You'll be surprised that I have two family churches in my family. One is a very old Roman Catholic church founded before the founding of the USA in New Mexico. The other is also a Mason lodge in Texas. Many would possibly disagree with me but I was a Christian then a Atheist before choosing Judaism to be my life. I have to stop. Since my story is sad and does contain mature content with depression, love and suicide.
read this article on the King of the Jews question.

first off lets hit the tanakh, shall we. i know that the jews(oh btw theres some powerhouses here who do study the tanakh.torah and the prophets way more then me and know the hebrew way better then you assumed) dont believe in that the gentiles are lost ie that the noahides are real.

is this true?

None of my parents are Jews. I'm making the difficult process of becoming Jewish. Anyone is welcome to ask me questions and I can do the same. Non Jews can become Jewish or they simply follow the Seven laws of Noah.

ok then why do jews such as this one tell me that any gentile is righteous if they follow a god?
Jason, you keep backing yourself into a corner...it's really quite simple...Jews accept all others...we are a light unto nations...and we love all others. There is no "RIGHT" group that can say they are going to heaven and all others are not. It is just plain wrong and illogical. God is great and he would not appreciate one group claiming to be right over all others.

that seems to be common. i am assuming that this person attends the temple and claims orthodoxy and she is from jewish parents, raised in the temple, both her and her cousin emphatically state this case to me.

I have read since Jews are G-d's chosen people. We hold the candle to guide people. The light. The Torah, laws, and prophets. The Jewish afterlife is complicated to explain. I can go into more detail this later. Jews are supposed to by to be righteous. Respect both other Jews and non Jews(gentiles).

I'm surprised you come on-line and post on the shabbat.

Sorry, that was more of a comment than a question. :)

A question: How long have you been studying for conversion, or actively seeking it?

The shabbat stars Friday sundown and ends Saturday. Jews are free the other days. I have been studying for a few months. I have three kippots. One that says Shema Yisrael. The other Ein Od Milvado.

ok then either what you say is or the rabbis that teach them that are in err? which is it. those two jews(which i can quote further and will one more time to show that) seem to disagree. they say that they are light(as we do) but arent all others that arent like the JEW in darkness. i even proposed that as a christian they must kill me for i am telling them to leave God and serve a false god. in the torah that is punashable by death, yet one of them claimed im not in deception,. how can that be?

The few that changed were significant changes. Had they not tampered with the Hebrew writings they may have been more successful in converting the Jew. These are just some of the references in Torah that are clear as day to me. Exodus 20:2-...3 - The first commandment. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and of the land of slavery. You shall have no other gods before Me. Dueteronomy 4:35 - You are the ones who have been shown, so that you will know that God is Supreme Being, and there is none other BESIDES Him! Deuteronomy 6:14 - You sahll not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you. Deuteronomy 32:39 - See now, that I, I am he ---and no god is with Me. Hosea 13:4 - I am the Lord your God, Who brought you out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but Me, no Savior except Me. These are just a few there are many more like I said. I am content. end quote.

Jason what is your point exactly? I answered your question and quoted your reference to Genesis 18:18. I never said because your a Jew you are righteous. I do not know the merits of people, be it gay or athiest or Christian. I am not the Ju...dge, there is only one. I knew you would get to the sacrifice part I could point to Torah as well in this regard - I have heard it all before. And yes, if you use the King James version when referring to the Torah in the places you wish to inject Jesus is corrupt. If you really wish to gain knowledge rather then to argue I suggest you buy a Jewish Tannach and read your talking point sections like the book of Isaiah, and get up on the blood sacrifices and their purpose. There is no need for Jesus to a Jew. Your point as to where Psalms 22 came from - again another pathetic attempt to take a verse out of context to inject Jesus. I am surprised you didn't choose Psalm 110:1 - KJV - The Lord said to my Lord. Jewish translation: The Lord said to my master. Or Psalm 2:12 KJV - Kiss the Son, lest he be angry. Jewish translation: Desire purity lest he become angry. Stop worrying so much who's right be content, i am. :) end quote.

kinda contradicting isnt it, she claims those verses as truth and yet says who am i too judge. isnt God words mean that you have the right to tell me that im in sin and need the torah or go to the noahide laws. muslims dont serve the same God as the jew, neither does the hindu with his pantheon

the last line says it all. Stop worrying so much who's right be content. i am. why then bother?

I see G-d as the only judge. He communicated to the prophets and the Jews. The prophets preached and then their words were written to explain what G-d expects of his people. I wouldn't try to debate with anyone on any subject. I debated about evolution and religions. We always hit a dead in and in truth we don't know everything about our beliefs. I don't really understand where you're discussing with them. I would say if you want to learn about Jews and everything else in between use many different sources. But ask the Rabbi!

Thanks for your reply. I know quite well when the shabbat starts and ends. Starts Friday at sundown and ends Saturday at sundown. My previous statement stands.

the problem is that those two even hold your position. besides claiming what the torah says is the same as he stating, if i tell you that if you fail to repent of your sins and hell will be your home. that in the bible.

i can pull up the bible verses on that. the problem with those jews they cant even state what you said which is what i say, i tell you what to do and then its tween you and God.

they dont even claim there right if you read the whole dialogue. oddly.

Yes, I know that the Jews also have the Talmud. The Hebrew Tanakh and the Biblical Old Testament do not differ at all. They are one and the same! Messianic Jews use it! Christians learn and study Hebrew. All of us, who were not born speaking Hebrew have no other choice but to use the English translated text until we learn Hebrew! We're all in the same boat. Christians look at the Old Testament through the Jewish POV (minus anything in relation to Christ) because that's the only way to look at it! You'll find many on this forum like with a deep understanding of Hebrew language and culture.
