Aspiring Authors?

Rachel:

Is she kind of contemporary? Christian, too, maybe? I wasn't familiar with her work, anyway.

Blessings.

She is a newer author if that is what you mean. She wrote The Hunger Games a few years ago but they did not become really popular until a year ago due to the first Hunger Games movie coming out. I have not heard anything about her being a christian but the trilogy does have some great messages in it.

Sounds like you're a great reader, anyway.

Blessings.

I do tend to have a lot of down time (due to my Lyme) so I like to fill it with books when my brain fog is not too bad. I am thankful my parents helped me love reading.

Rachel:

Sorry about your difficulties; we already discussed them on the other thread, too.

So does the medication affect your mind, too, sometimes? you refer to 'brain fog'.

Some of us pop so many pills that it can sometimes lead to a lack of clear-headedness.

Great that at your stage of life you don't necessarily have to think so much about the size of typeface and the light intensity on the page, as some of us do. Good to enjoy reading while you can!

Blessings.

No, the medicine does not cause the brain fog, that is caused by the Lyme. Though brain fog is an understatement. Some days the brain fog is so bad that I can't read, draw, do the computer or anything else aside from lay in bed and try to sleep. I had that earlier this week but thankfully it is not so bad currently most of the time.

I am happy that I can currently read more easily! I have had a lot of eye problems due to Lyme and I failed my last visual field test, but thankfully since I got my current glasses I have not had too many eye problems. The eye doctor even said that one of the things that could of caused the problem was MS but she said "but you don't have that", but chronic Lyme is commonly misdiagnosed as MS so it makes sense.

Sorry to hear that you do struggle too, with eyes sometimes. I hope the condition doesn't cause problems like when you as a woman want to make up your eyes, and so forth. (We men; we just use saline drops when needed.)

I think it's good that these days public libraries have a proportion of books in large print.

Blessings.

Thank you. It doesn't tend to cause any makeup problems. My biggest problem with eye makeup is smearing my eye liner or mascara. ;)

Yes, it is wonderful that they have larger print books now. And e-Readers are nice because you can easily change the font size.

Rachel: Well. good it doesn't; it would be a pity if it did. I understand that to some extent the danger of running/smearing kind of depends on how far the line is extended outward from where the lids meet, I guess. But you're capable of putting it on without my advice!

Yes, the tablet, e-reader thing does have the advantage of the reader being able to change the typeface. I like a nice, large print; the difference it makes on the eyes is enormous. I do prefer the printed book, still, mind you. A lot to be said also for large print Bibles.

Blessings.

My biggest problem with smearing is actually that I might accidentally move a little too quickly and get the mascara or eye liner on the wrong part of the lid or my nose. :P

Yeah, that's nice. And the Kindle has the special ink that looks real and does not have back lighting which makes it feel a little more like a real book.

Rachel:

Yes, well you need to do the eyes slowly, deliberately and boldly to become a confidently made up woman; same with lips, as you would know, without me telling you.

I guess I need to look into the Kindle thing more; I guess they must have some of the Bible commentaries on Kindle by now, though I must confess that I haven't really looked into it. Some folk in church take a Kindle tablet or whatever with them.

Blessings.

Yeah, usually the problem is when I am in a hurry and have to leave in just a a few minutes.

The Kindle is really nice. I have the classic Kindle but the Paper White looks really nice as well. It has a built in book light basically, it is not back lighting though so it does not shine in your face. How it is designed it shines onto the "page". I have the ESV on my Kindle and really like it.

Rachel:

Yes, well the trick is to put the mascara bottle, lipstick holder - and Bible - next to your alarm clock at night, in this way, reminding you when to set the alarm in time to do what you must do.

You like the ESV, then? it's supposed to be a sound, conservative version; basically the old RSV with some of the oopses fixed. I hadn't really grasped that the varieties of what is available on Kindle was so wide. But yes, glare can also be a problem. (Says he, looking into a computer screen...)

That is a good idea, even if it just reminds me to do them when I first wake up in the morning. I should do the same with my pill box as well.

Yes, the ESV is my preferred translation. I actually have met one of the men that helped with it, Dr. David Black.

I guess it's a question of, you do what you have to do, because a confidently made up woman is say: I have taken time and care. But you know this.

You guys must have some good church connections. Anyway, the ESV is supposed to be a sound version, though I myself still prefer the King James. The ESV seems to be used among conservative evangelical Reformed type of churches, less so among the Fundamentalists.

Blessings.

Yeah, reformed churches do tend to use it more. I like the fact that everyone in our church (which is kinda small but growing) uses an ESV, it makes it easier to follow along in my Bible if someone is reading aloud.

Rachel: I guess there is also a similar argument when the congregation all have the KJV.

In the end the individual needs to use what s/he is comfortable with, I guess. What we also need to do is become informed about the various aspects of Bible versions.

I guess you guys would get a lot of your preaching from the ESV.

Blessings.

Yes I agree, everyone needs to decide for themselves. In our church everyone just either prefers ESV or likes it along with a couple other versions.

Rachel: ESV has been out a few years now; I remember when it appeared on the scene about 10 years ago? not sure; do you remember?

Blessings.

No, I do not remember. We may of not have gotten any when it first came out though so that could be why.
