Baptisms

I never understood sprinkle baptism. Why not just walk outside in the rain and get baptised directly by God.

.
Mat 3:11 I (John the Baptist) indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but He (Jesus) that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, ONE BAPTISM. Which baptism was the one baptism? Jesus' or John's?

I never understood sprinkle baptism.
Yeah, me neither....until I read this:

"25“Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26“Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.27“I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. " (Ezekiel 36:25-27 NASB)

So, while I think submersion better signifies a death and resurrection to new life, the concept of sprinkle baptism does have some Biblical merit. I respect the practice.

Brother Jethro Bodine, to me that sprinkled water is the cleansing word of God.

Eph 5:25 . . Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.
And the reason?/////////////////////////////////////////////////
Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Dunked, sprinkled, or poured are only symbolic representations and acknowledgements of the actual work of baptism, which is done by The Lord.

Incidentally, John's baptism was of repentance, but not into Christianity. A Christian receives Jesus' baptism with the Holy Ghost regardless of how it might be ceremonially signified.

Act 1:4 ¶ And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
Act 1:5 - For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

Incidentally, John's baptism was of repentance, but not into Christianity.
-
And that is why Peter in Acts 2:38 is preaching this repentance baptism sermon .
If you read vs 36-39, Peter has just told the Jews at a Jewish Pentecost that they killed their Messiah.
Then he told them to "repent and be Baptized".
So, we see and hear this, and understand that this is not what we preach or what Paul preaches or teaches as the Gospel of the grace of God....."Grace through Faith", "The Gift of Righteousness".

When is the last time you witnessed or preached to a room full of unsaved jews during Pentecost, told them they killed their savior and then led them to be "repentance baptized".
Not this week?
Me neither.
But, on the other hand, when is the last time you have talked about the blood of Christ being given as a free gift, because God so loved the world that He gave it, to anyone who would by faith RECEIVE CHRIST. ???

So, we see that Act 2:38 is not what we understand today as the "Gospel of the Grace of God".

I was rather surprised when I seen how shallow the water was at this site. Just a little over ankle deep in most places. The fish swimming everywhere.
(And if you ever get here a decent place for souvenirs)

The place is serene...a great place to just hang out, eat some ice cream, and contemplate. It is operated by a Jewish commune. (Kibbutz)

Acts 1:6 "When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?"
Acts 2:30 "Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne." This tells of the earthly reign of Christ during the kingdom age after the body(church) is taken out.
Acts 2:36 "Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. This has to do with the earthly kingdom also
Then in verse 36 the question ask was not individuals, but the nation of Israel: "When they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?"

Personally i like dunked.. but if i wanted to be baptised out in the desart and there was only one canteen i would be happy wiht sprinkled... It is the heart that matters...

I think submersion better signifies a death and resurrection to new life,
That's what Paul said: "Do you not know" (and a whole lot a folk apparently do not know) "that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life." (RO 6:3-4 RSV)

I respect your use of scripture, however these are things God said He will do, which refers to the New Covenant.

No where in the New Testament is anyone instructed to sprinkle Baptise anyone.

Immersing is what Baptism indicates, death and resurrection from the dead.

God can sprinkle.
God gives us a new heart.
God Baptizes with the Holy Spirit.
God causes us to walk in His statutes.
God writes His laws on our heart.

Man Baptises in water.

Good scripture.

What's the point you are making?

hello JLB, dirtfarmer here

That the baptism that Peter preached on the day of Pentecost to the people assembled was for national repentance and salvation not individual salvation.

Well look at the picture in the OP...
This is the site Jesus and John the Baptist used.
Full immersion is only going to be possible if someone gets a shovel. The river just ain't deep enough.
The person in the pic being only ankle deep is actually one of the deepest parts.

It is what it is. I took the picture. I was there. It isn't Photoshop or stock. Everything is as it was except for the rails.
The banks are kinda steep. But stairs have been installed. And if the river was higher it overflows the banks and everyone would drown trying to get baptized. This incidentally is the same location as where the Israelites crossed to get to the Promised Land.
