#2 in the polls, #3 in BCS rankings!!
Back when I first moved here, back in 1995, BSU football was in disarray. The coach, ledgendary Pokey Anderson was fighting cancer, and loseing. I forget exactly when he died, but it took a while for the team to move on. Actually, I don't think anyone that Pokey actually coached "moved on" except to graduate. Boise then went through several coaches, mainly taking the job at Boise to position themselves to go onto bigger and better schools.
It wasn't until Dan Hawkins came along that the team finally got pulled together to start winning some football. Coach Hawk brought the team it's first undefeated season since I don't know when. It was under Coach Hawk that the Bronco's started to really believe that they could go all the way....then Coach Hawk left.
I don't blame Hawkins, everybody has to make their own decisions, but it just seemed as if BSU was going to always get the fuzzy end of the lolipop.
Hawkins' leaving was a blessing in disguise. Up until then, Coach Pete was somewhat of an unknown quantity to everyone outside the team. I know a lot of people really scratched their head at the choice of having him move into the head coaching slot, rather than trying to woo some outside talent. At the time though, my husband's client was the son of one of the coaches, and he said that the coaches were pumped that Christ Peterson was heading the team. They knew something that the rest of us could only guess at. But, wow!!! What a coach we have in Peterson. And, the fact that he has been offered some pretty good money at some pretty good schools, but remains here at Boise State!
Anyway, maybe this year my Broncos will go all the way, or maybe the BCS nazis will shut us out to the "kid's table" yet again. But, as we move into the Moutain West, hopefully with a somewhat better roster and playing non-confrence games, and winning them, against teams like VA Tech and yes, Michigan (yo, Mike!) we'll continue to prove that the Bronco's are indeed worthy of their rise to the top!!!!:nod
