Being Mean and Nasty

E

I’ve discovered that being mean and nasty might give one a temporary lift, but it always comes back to haunt you:

But I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother shall be liable to the council, and whoever says, `You fool!' shall be liable to the hell of fire. Matt 5:22 RSV

What goes around comes around. I believe if you do bad to others bad will always come back to your doorstep as what you sow, whether good or bad, you reap back to yourself that which you sowed.

There is a guy at work like that. I work with/under/next to him. He's not my boss, but he's supposed to train me.

He once quit the company and when they considered hiring him back, they let the employees vote - all voted him down. But since he'd do the job for less than anyone else, they hired him back.

I have only been there 3 months, I wonder WHEN "it will come back to haunt him", his attitude and meanness, that is.

Ok first no offence intended.

What if God intended for you to be the returner of the badness of the other person?

I ask only out of curosity.

A curse is God's work, not ours. To return badness is to practice anti-Christian principle despite what professed Christians practice.

That's a tricky question. How do we know God wants us to take revenge? The Bible says revenge belongs to the Lord.

Proverbs 10:22
Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!†Wait for the LORD, and he will avenge you.

Romans 12:19
Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,†says the Lord.

Elijah, I've noticed you start a lot of threads where the crux of the matter is that you are frustrated by others who don't treat you in a Godly way. Besides this thread, there's also...

I didn't even finish the 2nd page of 6 pages of threads started by you. I'm just thinking that you would do well to accept the fact that people will mistreat you. They will be cruel. You've started topics on "prideful people" numerous times. I would suggest it would benefit your walk to not permit these people to impact your outlook. If someone is cruel or prideful, pray for them and move on. Try not to let them bring you down.

Just a thought. :shrug

God used Nebuchadnezzar to pay back the 'badness' of Judah:

"2 The LORD sent Babylonian, Aramean, Moabite and Ammonite raiders against him. He sent them to destroy Judah, in accordance with the word of the LORD proclaimed by his servants the prophets. 3 Surely these things happened to Judah according to the LORD’s command, in order to remove them from his presence because of the sins of Manasseh and all he had done..." (2 Kings 24:2-3 NIV1984)

But even though this was true, God later judged the Babylonians for doing it.

A similar thing happened earlier to Sennacherib the king of Syria:

"...have I come to attack and destroy this place without word from the LORD? The LORD himself told me to march against this country and destroy it." (2 Kings 18: NIV1984)

But, even though commanded him to do that, he was cut down by the Lord.

I know of people who think that perhaps their badness is being used by God to do some good for other bad people who they think deserves it. Well, that might be true, but they will be judged along with the 'bad' people God is chastising them through. It's not a calling of God I would want, that's for sure.

I'm not singling you out, but this statement unfortunately reflects the beliefs of many Christians.

There are two issues I find wrong with it:

It wreaks of karma (which is from Hinduism and Buddhism)

and

it doesn't quite explain why bad things happen to "good" people.

The Bible addresses both issues. Yes, the Bible does talk about reaping what we sow, but not necessarily in the context of karma. God alone is responsible for what He brings down upon us for what we do in the flesh.

Jesus also teaches us that it rains on the just and on the unjust (Mat 5:45).

Both the author of Acts and Paul tell us that the Lord is no respecter of persons.

The bottom line is, people have a tendency to treat us as we treat them.

Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.
Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Mat 22:40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

Thanks that cleared up a point on that subject for me.

even muslims act like that , vic.

treat them like crap and they will act that way. treat them as descent people and they will be nice.

that is how i dealt with them overseas until they decided to act a fool.

Jason, I did not single out any one group of people in my post, nor does the Bible in respect to this subject. Actually, scripture goes the extra mile, suggesting we treat each other rightly, regardless of how they treat us.

i know but i was saying that as most think that they are usually that well subhuman when often they arent. its the nasty ones that get the most attention.

most muslims that i saw in country didnt care if i was a christian just wanted to live and live as they saw fit.
