I understand what the Bible says. But big deal! What happens if I decide to take away from it or add to it?

God’s not going to do anything to me, is He? It’s nothing that big. God will understand. Adding one or two things won’t change much, will it? Is it that big a deal?â€

Take a look at the last chapter in Revelations for an answer to this question.

Why do individuals and other faith's feel it is ok to do this?
a different belief /doctrine/ teaching is not always adding to or taking away.. unless it reforms the plan of salvation /the virgin birth /death burial Resurrection . there is so much wide variety of church doctrine these days.. no wonder people stay so confused . this is why paul wrote to timothy study to show your self approved rightly diving the truth.

Then what do we do with this verse:

2 John 9 (KJV)
Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

Ezra--God did through Paul say we are to "rightly divide the word of truh" II Tim.2:15. What is the "word of truth" if not the scripture?

I don't think any Christian denies the bible as an authority, God though is the ultimate authority. The question is how do we understand what it means and how do we apply it? Is it all meant to be taken at face value or is there something much deeper and complex going on? God created us all different, its not surprising we have different views.

no body denies that scripture lets do a test post what you believe to be bible truths other than death burial resurrection and the virgin birth ..is the southern baptist the authority? or general baptist? how about church of GOD / apostolic..... is being slain in the spirit Bible? your missing the point*************

Is "southern baptist" or "general baptist" scriptural? that would be a good start, by what authority do they wear their name? is it worn with the authority of the Bible? if so how?

Here's the difficulty as I see it. Everyone, no matter what denomination they aspire to, believes they understand the scriptures. We can't all have it right so who is? Do any of us have it right?

Wip---Its possible we may ALL be wrong, yet one thing is certain, God's word is right.

A god is a very personal thing. When I was a Christian I struggled with the question of exactly where I should get my authority from. From my Pastor? What if I was in the wrong denomination? Should I interpret it myself? When I did that I often found that my theology differed from others in my church, and it didn't feel right making myself the authoritarian of my beliefs, as a Christian I felt that was Gods position. In end I did what I thought was right, and what I thought was justified by scripture, I was never certain I was right, but I was certain that God would at least understand that my intentions were good. Obviously as an atheist I hold no authority whatsoever on the topic any longer, but even now I have to choose how I act solely based on what I can justify with myself. If I can't do that, then I feel my intentions must surely be insincere.

I believe that if everyone would obey the Gospel (Here it, believe it, repent of their evil ways, confess Christ and be baptized for the remission of their sins) then all the rest is not worth division, there are many things in the Bible that I believe will never be understood and are intended that way so that the Bible can be studied for a life time an never become boring, and always learn something new every time the same book chapter verse is visited.

Every time the miraculous book reveals something missed over the years of its study will change things that some may believe, but it is not worth division in the church. it has been the pride of so called "scholars" and those that follow them (as Webb put it in his lat post where Paul was rebuking "Preacheritis") there will be division, and of all the divisions there can only be one doing it right.

thats my point* its not a matter of denomination most are trying to do the best they can

the name --NO but if you will study their doctrine.. they both are pretty close in scripture .the general baptist believe that your salvation is secure in Christ. but they also believe that one can turn away and be lost again. southern once saved always saved* no matter what...both sides make a very valid point.. there are some denoms i will not agree with... yes it is very much bible they just see scriptures different

Then under the baptist doctrine, if it is so close to the doctrine of Christ, at what point in the baptist doctrine does a man become penitent?

tell ya what you post as what YOU see as truth.... what church do you attend? and what doctrine...

I assemble with a congregation of the Church of Christ, and go by the doctrine of Christ, no creeds non denominational, no headquarters, all congregations are fully autonomous. we go only by the Bible.
I believe the Lord only can add someone to His Church, I believe one has to hear his Gospel, Believe it, Repent of sinful ways (of which I would like someone of the baptist faith to tell me how he could comply with this command as in Acts. 2:38 when he is supposedly already saved the moment he believes and would have nothing to repent of), confess Christ with the mouth, and be baptized. and it is then the Lord adds the believer who loves Him by keeping His commands and adds them to His Church (no voting required)

Church OF Christ... so i guess that makes it the true Church? ..pssstttt the Baptist get saved like every body else by faith through Grace ..is there another way to be saved ? curious will there be any body beside the Church of Christ in heaven ???????? my whole point is no one certain denomination has it down to a T ..they simply are trying to do the best they can.....
we go only by the Bible.
and others DON,T ?
