Biblical inspiration

The parts including prophecies are certainly interesting, but what about parts of the Bible apart from prophecy? What is the reasoning used to believe that these parts are also inspired? For example, why believe that letters in the New Testament are inspired as well, and not simply some people's opinions on certain issues?
If one doesn't believe the entire Bible to be inspired, how does one determine which parts are? We either believe all of Scripture or we throw the whole thing out.

To the person who said that Jesus said that the Gospel would be preached in all the world...are there not still some places where people have not heard the Gospel?
Yes.
And, if it had been, would that not mean that the end would have come already, like the verse says?
Yes. I was simply pointing out what our Lord clearly said would happen and what the prophets clearly said would would come to pass before he was even born.

This isn't true my friend, because even the apostles didn't fully understand their own scriptures. They slipped a little as they grew in knowledge of him, but repentance and forgiveness for the sake of knowing what he forgave.

Why do Christians believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God?

Are you familiar with what a Prophet is? God spoke through certain men. God spoke through Prophet Samuel. God spoke through Prophet Jeremiah and so on. The Prophets were men separated by time and space. God has a character. God has a tone. We have multiple authors whom God was speaking through. This shows The Holy Ghost. It is part of why there are four gospels.

God is honorable. Have you ever heard a man say something like "My Word is my bond?" Word implies honor. God is Honorable. The Bible is The Word of God. God does not lie. Given God speaking through someone, what was spoken comes to pass. We have hundreds of years of prophecy to look at.....also, false prophets, and what their fruit was. With prayer and study, someone may be able to see God.

A lot of people don't really understand the Prophets. The Prophets do not contradict each other. Before there was a New Testament, Apostle Paul liked to teach out of the Book of Isaiah showing how Jesus fulfilled prophecy. Someone reads the New Testament from an Old Testament understanding.

Understanding and believing are two different things.

I agree. I should have said we believe all scripture is inspired even though we don't
understand it all. But without understanding it isn't possible to express what we believe correctly.
Everyone should start reading Enoch I think too. At least like 6-10 and 15.

This is why it is so important to get into the Word daily. As we read, study, and live out Christian lives, God gives us more understanding as we are ready to receive it.

Yes and that's really when believers realize Christ throughout the scriptures and how the Bible is inspired.

Why do Christians believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God?
The short answer is that Christians (Catholics) believe the Bible is the inspired written word of God because God has revealed this truth through His Church.

For more detailed proof please read the article in the following link: https://vaticancatholic.com/bible-and-sola-scriptura-scripture-alone/

Did you know that the Bible teaches that the Church, not the Bible, is the pillar and foundation of the truth?

Did you know the Church existed for decades before the Bible was even finished?
Did you know that it would not be for another 300 years that the Church would officially determine which books make up the Bible? Yes, it wasn’t until the 4th century that the canon of the Bible was finally determined.

“Since Protestants reject the authority of the Catholic Church, they have absolutely no way of determining with certainty (i.e. infallibly) which books make up the Bible. The Bible doesn’t come with a Table of Contents. That has been added by the one who published your version of the Bible. The Bible doesn’t tell us which books are inspired or how many books are in it. Moreover, even if one book did mention other books as being inspired, by what criteria could one determine that that particular book is inspired? In order to arrive at an infallible list of books, there must be an infallible authority outside of the Bible. That is the Church. Therefore, if one rejects the infallible authority of the Church and holds to Scripture alone, he remains unable to determine if he has the true books.
Faced with this problem, well-known Protestant scholar R.C. Sproul was forced to assert that the Bible is a “fallible collection of infallible books.” If you carefully think about it, a fallible collection of infallible books is a contradiction. It logically leaves you with a fallible Bible. This demonstrates that Protestants cannot logically maintain that their Bible is infallible; for they cannot know with certainty if they even have the correct books.
As a case in point, after separating from the Catholic Church, Martin Luther and his fellow Protestants removed seven complete books from the Bible. They removed the books of Tobias (Tobit), Judith, Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus (Sirach), Baruch, First and Second Machabees, as well as parts of Esther and Daniel. As a result, Protestant bibles (to this day) have 66 books, while Catholic bibles have 73. Martin Luther and the Protestants made the radical decision to remove these seven books from the Bible, even though they had been almost universally acknowledged as part of the Bible for over a millennium.

Additionally, the seven books which the Protestants removed are found in the Septuagint. The Septuagint is a Greek translation of the Old Testament which was completed a few centuries before the birth of Jesus Christ. Some might ask: what’s so important about the Septuagint? Well, as mentioned in the section on Purgatory, the New Testament quotes from the Old Testament about 350 times – and about 300 of those quotes are from the Septuagint version. That means that the authors of the New Testament accepted the Septuagint version of the Old Testament, and thus the seven books which the Protestants rejected.
It should also be noted that it was not the Bible, but Tradition and the Church, which determined the authorship of the biblical books. The Gospel of Matthew, for example, does not indicate who wrote it. It is from Tradition and the Church that we know it was written by Matthew. Since Scripture is silent on who wrote Matthew, Protestant logic would require one to conclude that it’s an open question.
Furthermore, pure Scripture scholarship, without the guidance of the Church, would not have led anyone to the correct biblical canon. The Book of Philemon, for example, does not have the features of the other books of the New Testament. Philemon does not contain a salvation message. It is simply a communication and a request about a runaway slave. The fact that it claims to have Paul for its author would not be sufficient to prove that it’s part of Scripture, for any document could make that claim and not all of Paul’s letters were included in the Bible. “

Hey All,
How can we trust Scripture? Does the supposed fallacy that it calls itself Scripture, constitute circular reasoning? Let's explore:

1. Fulfilled Prophecy.
God spoke to men telling them of future events. Some events have already happened. Others have not happened yet. For example, the Old Testament contains more than 300 prophecies about Jesus Christ’s first coming. There is no doubt that these are prophecies from God because of manuscripts dated before the birth of Christ. We know these were written before Jesus was born.

2. The Unity of Scripture.
The Bible was written by some 40 different human authors over about fifteen centuries. Some were contemporaries. Most were not. These men were quite diverse.
Moses, was a political leader;
Joshua, a military leader;
David, a shepherd;
Solomon, a king;
Amos, a herdsman and fruit picker;
Daniel, a prime minister;
Matthew, a tax collector;
Luke, a medical doctor;
Paul, a rabbi;
Peter, a fisherman; all very different people.
The Bible was also written on 3 different continents, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Yet, given all this separation (time and physical distance) the themes of Scripture are maintained in all the writings.
God is understood of as:
Eternal;
Omnipotent;
Omniscient;
and as the creator of the universe.
God is further explained as being
Holy, just, omnibenevolent, and omnipresent.
God's purpose for interacting with us can be summarized through these four main concepts: Creation, the Fall, Redemption, and Restoration. The Bible does not contradict itself. Among what was found in the Dead Sea scrolls, were either partial or complete copies of every book in the Old Testament except for Esther. Before this discovery, the oldest known manuscripts of the Hebrew Bible dated to the 10th century A.D. The Dead Sea Scrolls include over 225 copies of biblical books that date up to 1,200 years earlier.There is no way, apart from God the Holy Spirit supervising the writing of the Bible, and preserving it, that this could have been accomplished.

3) The Bible is Honest.
It faithfully represents its prophets and mighty men completely with all of their strengths and weaknesses. It does not glorify men as other religions do their heroes. Reading the Bible, one realizes that the people it describes have problems and do wrong just as we do. We see the mighty Samson made weak by disclosing his secret. We see Jonah not making good choices. We see David, who Scripture tells us was “a man after God’s own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14), committed adultery (2 Samuel 11:1-5) and murder (2 Samuel 11:14-26).
That is not exactly the way to portray your heroes in secular writing. But it is the honest way.

4) Archaeologically Accurate
Accurate Archaeology findings support the history recorded in Scripture. Many have tried to find archaeological evidence to disprove the Bible, they have failed. It is easy to say that Scripture is not true, or inaccurate. Proving it to not be true is another matter. In fact, it has not happened yet. In the past, every time the Bible was put to the test against a “scientific” theory, the Bible was proven to be true and the "scientific" theory wrong. A good example is Isaiah 40:22. All the while that science declared the earth to be flat, the Bible stated that God “sits on the circle [sphere] of the earth.”

5. No Circular Reasoning
The writers of Scripture, for the most part, did not know each other. It is not circular reasoning if it is spread out over 1500-1600 years. Collusion was simply not possible. The testimony of reliable witnesses, particularly Jesus, but also Moses, Joshua, Nehemiah, David, Daniel, and in the Old Testament, and John and Paul in the New Testament—affirms the authority and verbal inspiration of the Holy Scriptures.
Consider the following passages: Exodus 14:1; 20:1; Leviticus 4:1; Numbers 4:1;Deuteronomy 4:2; 32:48; Isaiah 1:10, 24; Jeremiah 1:11; Jeremiah 11:1–3; Ezekiel 1:3; 1 Corinthians 14:37; 1 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Peter 1:16–21; 1 John 4:6.

6. Finally Secular History
Also of interest are the writings of Titus Flavius Josephus, a Jewish historian who wrote during the first century A.D. Josephus records some events which coincide with Scripture. In Book 18, Chapter 3, 3 of the Antiquities Josephus describes the condemnation and crucifixion of Jesus at the hands of the Roman authorities.
Considering all of the evidence given, I believe we can state that the Bible is more than just written by man. Further, it has been the overwatch of the devine ( the Holy Spirit) to protect what we have. Lastly , Paul told Timothy, and us, to accept the Bible as being from God (2 Timothy 3:114-17).

2 Timothy 3:14-17 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

I hope this helps.
Keep walking everybody.
May God bless,
Taz
PS Oh, by the way, I almost left out the most theme of Scripture:
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
