Bill Cosby responds to Victoria Osteen

A serious question for a change TOG. Would you spend every Sunday feeding the homeless, or going to church... if they both occurred at the same time of day?

...it's rather interesting to watch all the Christians here justify neglecting the things of God because people are too busy having fun.

The TOG
Wow, quite a random judgement it seems you're making there. I really haven't seen much of what your talking about among our forum members at all. Most of them who profess to be Christians seem pretty dedicated to me. We may not always agree on the type of dedication, but I can't remember many if any at all saying they put their fun things ahead of God. Besides, there is nowhere in scripture that we are told enjoying something in life is a sin.

"James 4:9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to ...
Be miserable and mourn and weep; ... Be miserable and mourn and weep. Your laughter must change to mourning and .."
(quoted from k9 safe search, first link)

see, it is written for a reason, for Yhwh's purpose, and cannot be neglected without great peril.

elsewhere, in acts wonderfully, the people who came to Yeshua and were immersed in His Name,
they did be miserable and mourn and weep for their sins , and they repented and turned to Yhwh and gave up everything instead of continuing ongoing in their sin. they stopped sinning, willingly and joyfully. (with 'stumbling' at times of course, for which Yhwh's Word provides graciously and freely and generously a Way to recover, for most ; not for all it seems).

without repentance, there is no forgiveness of sin (just like without blood there is no remission of sin).
blood of the Lamb, paid at great cost; not lightly, and not to be taken lightly.

so if someone continues blatantly in sin, in carnality, in worldliness according to Yhwh's Word and the Word of Yeshua all throught the N.T., what's to be done ?? applaud and enjoy the 'entertainment' !?

Psalm 30:10-12King James Version (KJV)
10 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper.

11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;

12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever.

Clarification.
Yes it was sacasm, and i edit the post because i was not thinking straight. And i never went for a surf today because there was no waves. :cool2
Then you don't live in southern California. They have been having some gnarly waves due to a recent hurricane that was blowing around in the Pacific.

I thought the earthquake was caused when Pelosi took the als challenge. satan had to open hell to take her in as no angel was going to carry her there.lol

Both of those are things that God has commanded us to do. If they conflict with each other, I would do whichever I felt God wanted me to do. On the other hand, the Bible does not command us to go fishing or surfing, so if those things conflicted with something that God has commanded, then there would be not question which I would do.

Since my last post in this thread, some other posts have been clarified or edited. It seems I have misunderstood what some people meant, and for that I apologize. But I can't tell what people mean or whether they aren't thinking straight or if a "not" was accidentally left out, thereby completely changing the meaning of the post. All I have to go by is what is actually written. In the OP, Victoria Osteen tells us to think of ourselves first, not God. We should, according to her, do what makes us happy, not what we believe will please God. I and others replied by saying that this is totally wrong. In post #12, I said "God never said we aren't allowed to be happy, but we should think of Him first, other people second and ourselves last." Some later posts by others (some of which have been edited or clarified) seemed to me to be contradicting that and supporting what Victoria Osteen said. It was to those posts that I was referring when I mentioned "Christians here justify neglecting the things of God because people are too busy having fun".

See? This is the hypocritical nonsense I object to people doing.

It has to be clear to anyone (without an agenda, that is) that VO did not broadcast a mere 33 second program. Did she say some stupid-sounding stuff in that tiny blurb, when taken totally out of context... (as they very obviously were)... come off making her sound like she was saying something we know wasn't the gist, nor intent, of her full talk? Of course she did. But are you really serious in trying to tell us that you honestly believe that was the intent of the message she spoke on?

Are you... even for a moment... in doubt that someone could go find many of our posts (yours included) and by only posting a small part of them, make us sound like we are saying something totally different than our full post meant? Of course you don't believe that. None of us could.

Add to that the shameful title the OP put on this post... when Cosby probably never even saw her original broadcast.......... and for me, it begins to cast serious doubt on most anything people seemingly out only to kick mud have to say about anything.

I am disgusted with Obama and mob, but I can't see myself ever trying to smear even him in such a cheap manner.

that was a doctored video, if you notice the show, it was from the bill cosby show that ran in the mid 80's to the early 90's.

Of course it was. That's why I called it "shameful" to, even in jest, (which no one here has come close to), imply in a post title that Cosby actually responded.

We are self-righteously screwing with things I feel God takes very seriously here, and making jokes is pretty tasteless, and far from what Jesus called us to be doing.

you could do that to make a point. what if was some atheist on you tube mocking jesus. and I don't think you would have a problem with cosby being used for that.

a challenge if some one can post the video of the whole sermon of osteen that includes vo's statement im willing to watch it.

A better challenge might be for adults to quit trying to sully people, and refrain from posting anything but their truly representative messages.

atheist mock jesus on youtube all the time. my brother used to respond and debate athiests. im sure I can find some. if I find one and added that same ending to the video as it was done to Victoria osteen, im saying YOU wouldn't have a problem.

ok, so if want to really know if church is apostate. I should just believe the solo defender of that church? why not go visit them and see? I have vistited Lakewood church's website a few years ago. in it did if I recall , say that jesus wasn't needed for salvation. but since I cant see that anymore there. I don't post that but will say either joel was apostate or went soft on his message.
case in point.

im listening to that now. and I could use this one as example and put cosby in their.

I don't know about making it a challenge, but I think watching the whole video to get the context would be a good idea. I have seen this posted in my FB today too.

I wasn't answering her whole message. I was replying to the subject of this thread, which is whether or not "if you're happy, God's happy" is a reasonable statement. But since my opinions don't seem to be welcome here, I'll just leave the rest of you alone.

If you are referring to me as, "the solo defender of that church", you missed it. I really don't care too much for either one of them.

What I am saying is that we, as followers of Christ, have no business hunting for cheap, tawdry ways to back-stab people. If we feel their message is wrong, then we should be honest enough to post their messages IN FULL, and show where we feel they are wrong.

I'm not defending the Osteens. I'm expressing true shame and embarrassment at the low-stooping ways some of my brothers and sisters employ to try and disparage them.

If they are all that wrong...... stand up tall, and let their own words (ALL of them) speak for themselves. The way many people try to smear those they feel are wrong is just NOT how Jesus told us to act.
