Bill Cosby responds to Victoria Osteen

I fear you have blinded yourself. (Or allowed yourself to be blinded) She talked about nothing that you are going on about.
im going to listen again. but what is successful then? have you been ocunus. i have met muslims that confessed in secret they believe in jesus and were dirt poor. that's a risk. they have it. i didn't listen to that anyway. i listened to this. just to correct myself. the 24th didn't work so i went for this. skip to 53 minutes.

day or night? there is two. live service at nignt. which died. or the one i listened too.
the sermon is at the potters wheel.
start at 50 minutes.. feel successful and accomplished. that is relative. god gets no benefit us from not succeeding. while i see that but this? while you are at the best you can change the legacy of your live?at the cross my legacy is what? when i die. what should i be known the most for? i lead so so to jesus. not what the best i can be. that is what im seeing. enough truth there to distort it.

i agree that god does use small things and work the way up. but again successful? its how she worded it. it would be better worded faithfull. i have asked god for a secular talent. turning wrenches.so how can i not take it that way? the job i had in fleet was a gift from god. but god closed the door on that.

well? you quoted me and didn't add a statement. i hate when i do that. i re listened to that whole thing.i did have a bias, i was planning to listen to that again so that i could get around any bias. either way, i don't care for method of saying that. if she said from the bible, with the parable of the talents its much easier no to mess that up,. if god gave you a talent he will grow it if you let him.

OK, I think I am seeing the problem. You seem to automatically think money when someone says the word "successful".

its America, who doesn't. actually i don't, but since the osteens are labeled as prosperity gospel types which i once believed that. it saw that. but if my pastor said that. i would know that he was saying something else. he does teach that if you give good does give money back to you but not all the time. pray for a job if you need but remember the person whom gave you the blessings.

There was a time when I made $8,000 in a single day. But I was not successful as a human being.
Today, after the market tore me apart, I live on less than $90 a day... but I wouldn't trade the completed feeling of who I am now for double the money of those old days.
Success is not simply having money.

i know that all to well.however, given most sinners aren't going to know the bible that well or even the saved, they should use a more direct approach and maybe they do in the bible classes, osteen did quote the word when i heard him.

i hate this every Christmas as it has killed the message of the Lord
peace on earth and good will toward men

that isn't a peace as in no war, that is shalom. its no wonder why the shepherd fell to faces.they heard a shalom from heaven and thought its God saying that shalom means be blessed as you do torah. if you read the language of the greek in that is closer to peace and good will as you follow me. i remember a sermon on that.

Why was this same video re-posted in a new thread?
a challenge if some one can post the video of the whole sermon of osteen that includes vo's statement im willing to watch it.

There are many comments about this clip all over google but I can't find any response or the full message, with no date for it who knows.
finally, i had to move that video forward to 53 minutes vo is speaking on god. first sentence has he wants you to be wealthy, blessed etc. she is making it out to be if you are successful it will make others want it. ok did jesus die so that i can have things? sometimes as it is with stovebolts. it plain is crappy to serve god but god used that.gah, shallow Christianity.

Jason which sermon were you listening to? I listened to all of her on Aug 24 and didn't hear her talking about money at all in her sermon. She was talking about using the gifts and talents that the Lord has given each one and to be faithful in what may seem like a small thing or job, learn, and wait on the Lord. ??? She did say anything about doing things for yourself, making yourself happy, ?

Enjoy prosperity while you can, but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God. Remember that nothing is certain in this life. Ecclesiastes 7:14 NLT

Gimme a break. That mistake was up there for about seven seconds because I hit the wrong button. Do a <REFRESH> and you won't see it.

Shoulda put my money in a mattress.

I'm not saying she's right, but just going to point something out here...

I came to the conclusion a few years ago that we were made to worship God, that was our true purpose in life. And that because we were designed for that purpose, living for God is what naturally makes us truly happy.

So when I first heard this clip, that's what I thought of. Perhaps that's what she meant, and perhaps context is the issue here?

Please don't kill me

Perhaps, but I doubt it. In other words, the scale I have to judge what she said tips more to the idea that she meant worshiping God is for ones own self motivation, or for ones own self reasons, or worst of all, "self faith".

If you analyze the overall message of the Olsteens, and others like them; what they say, how they it, and what they leave out of their "sermons, and teachings, books, DVDs....as well as their own life styles, multiple multimillion dollars homes, luxury cars, boats, and private planes....... It's not the Gospel of the bible.

The Olsteens are part of the "faith movement". If they believe anything; they believe that words (our own words) are the containers of a "force" and that force is what they call faith, and you can use that "force" to bring things into existence, which lead to health and prosperity, or destruction of some sort. There are variations on this idea. We see it in Buddhism. Oprah talks about it as well. Other Hollywood types have eluded to it (Jim Carrey is one).

A good analogy for what the WoF movement teaches about your words being the containers of "faith force" is what every mother and teacher would say when you made a goofy face as a kid, or slouched in your chair. "If you keep making that face it's going to stick like that."....."Sit up straight or you will have bad posture." ......And one more. "You keep picking at that and it will never heal." LOL (but you did didn't you? and it did didn't it?)

I would not have a problem with the Olsteens, or what they say, IF they did not say it's Christianity, or based on the Holly Bible, and part of Gods word, but they do that to make what they say attractive, and universal to a larger audience.

I think the diversity of reactions and responses here might have a lot to do with the verse that says, "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be." (or.... "What we focus upon greatly affects and directs our perceptions and conclusions.", to paraphrase it in modern thinking.)

I cant , say from what I have heard briefly that I have heard him say that yet, I will listen to him WITHOUT DISTRACTION when the time is right and listen without a bias. and post. since you have listened to him, have you read his books as well? it could be that you are right. im not saying you aren't just that the video I have listened to isn't showing that., but one thing I have a small issue with, is that the worship is very concert like. im not saying you cant do that. just not my style in church.

I have read some of his books. I have one of the shelf some place. If you're looking for Gods word in it you won't find it.

Joel is a great motivational speaker. I think he dishes out some very practical and good advice, and I'm not knocking him for that. What I have a problem with is him saying it's God's word when it's not. Joel Olsteen is not preaching or teaching Gods word or the bible. He's a self help motivational speaker. That's it. It's not a ministry for God.
