Book Keeper's Coffee Shop

Well I took today off.
I just bought a truck back in January...it was new to me. It was a used truck. I can't afford new....well I can but simply refuse to put that size of portion of our income into a depreciating asset.

I've usually had great luck with used vehicles. My last truck wouldn't pass emissions testing but it also wasn't even worth 1000 dollars either. So I had to get another one.
I got this one. Paid 11k for an 08 four door Chevy Sierra.
Last night on the way home the truck started giving me trouble. So I started it up this morning and it still ran rough. So I took today off to take it into the shop and get it fixed. figured it was probably just a spark plug or a coilpack.

This time it was the valves...and the cam and the oil pump. and since it was so many parts I chose a new engine option...100K miles warranty.
but its going to cost 6800.
Uggghhhhh.

but considering I've gotten five used vehicles in the past 10 years and lost one due to a drunk driver, gave one to my son, and the last one to emissions and being a pain...I've been really lucky. (This includes my wife's cars too)

But...I still haven't put out the money a single New Car or Truck would cost. Even with all the repairs. I still haven't put out the money that these vehicles would require in insurance either.

I actually got out of the house this beautiful day and spent the day with my Mother shopping for a new lounge chair for her and a couple table lamps for me since kitty decided she didn't like the one I had and knocked it to the floor breaking it. She is 11 months old and a outside cat, but had her spayed a week ago so she still has some healing to do and then back outside she goes. We brought her in for the winter as it was way to cold, but she is as anxious as we are to be able to go outside again. She is a good mouser, but also brings me dead birds at times and I don't like that. I also hope she doesn't kill the bunnies that run around in the yard.

The weather is suppose to be really nice the next couple of days so had hubby back up the trailer close to the house and will start piling all the fallen limbs that fell this winter during all the high winds we had. I can only do a little bit at at a time before I start hurting so it will be work and sit and repeat and repeat till it's all done. I do enjoy being outside and taking care of the yard as much as I can do before its time for hubby to mow the grass.

I didn't know that you had a cat. What does she look like?

ouch, sorry to hear that! glad it will have a warranty though.

i've bought two new cars but only because i planned on keeping them for as long as possible. my first was like a little tin can, manual transmission but it was great, reliable and I kept it for 13 years and some months. the second i bought reluctantly. i had looked at this particular car the year before but wasn't ready to buy and didn't want to commit to a car payment again after more than 9 years without one. then they had a 0% financing deal and it was the end of the year so they offered a truly great price (i did my research trust me). i was very happy with it until i got laid off. then i was kicking myself. but i still plan on keeping this car even longer than the last one. and this brand has great resale value.
buying new isn't all bad.

My wife and I are rather nerdy most of the time.
She works with research scientists...have more as friends locally. We read books constantly...We are basically nerds.
Sigh
But we do fun stuff...a lot
Travel, mission trips, charity work and etc

Is there such a thing as a "cool nerd"?
i think some of the coolest people are true nerds.

its funny how female cats are such good hunters. i know the same is true for lions and big cats too. i have a female that brings me a mouse every couple of months - sometimes still alive. once i almost let her in with one in her mouth because it was dark and i didn't see it. my male cat doesn't show any interest in hunting except for the toy mouse (with catnip) that he'll "catch" in his mouth. i've tried to get video of it but he always drops it by the time i get to my phone.

Tell you what.
The next time you want to finance a vehicle...compare the payments.
I've always done better at the bank with car loans than with lot financing...and in fact it usually makes the car more expensive if you bring cash or bank financing because the lot gets a huge kickback for selling the car loan.

But I've always come out on top with bank financing... even with 0%loans. I have no idea why or how because the bank always has a higher interest rate. But the finance guy at the lot always raises his hands and says "I can't touch that. You are doing better than anything I got."

Granted I'm never going to buy a $70,000 new truck. That's a third of a mortgage. And houses go up in value. Trucks and cars depreciate in value. I gotta have both.

Nice trucks are nice. But they all go the same speed in traffic jams. And we get a lot of those around here. So since my trucks have a tendency to be on construction sites, get beat up from hauling tools and materials...no sense in me spending a whole lot on them...to me at least. I cuss them and repair them all day long. Alternators, water pumps, coils, plugs, brakes, bearings, rotors and hubs, fuel pumps, radiators, and air conditioning...replaced them all at some point. Trucks are much easier to work on than cars...more room to work and get at stuff. I'll do some stuff on cars...but not a lot. They are very difficult to do much on...you almost have to pull the motor to do anything on them.

I'm thinking it is the female cat that does most of the hunting. She saw a chipmunk out in the yard the other day that has her name on it. I'm sure I will find it at the back door.

Yrs I believe that's so
Just like the big wild cats.

She's lovely. Ginger tabby girl, you don't see many ginger ladies here, they are nearly all male.

Never heard of a Ginger tabby, just grey and orange ones. She actually adopted us when she was a kitten. It's a good story.

The guy that lived next to us brought two kittens home, but never took care of them as he was never home, so my other neighbor and I started feeding them. I confronted him about bringing to kittens to his place and then neglecting them telling him we were feeding them. He said, what's the big deal if they are being fed. Well, I told him they were not our responsibility so he gathered them up and ended up dumping them down the road.

I drove down where he drove, but couldn't find them. A few days later the other neighbor found the female and brought her home for his daughter. She played with her for awhile, but really didn't have time for her as she worked. Between the neighbor and us we took care of her and she ended up at our house and became our cat. Sad part is we never found her brother and hope someone did.

That's really good that you wound up with her, but a very sad story on how it happened. :( We think our kitty was abandoned to before we got her from a friend. People can be so cruel and sick sometimes.

Poor little fubabes. But it's lovely how she chose you. You and the other neighbour saved her life. Like HeIsRisen2018 I hope her brother found a home too
I am feeding 2 feral cats in the back garden. I think they were both born outside but are fully grown now. They won't let me touch them, but the black one almost touches me.

Hey I like that kiwidan
Nice band, it should have been a hit

The are many artists and good songs out there that should have been hits. When you go back in time when bands acturally played music and were artistic and had lyrics it's a breath of fresh air compaired to today.
