Bible Study CALLING ALL BIBLE STUDY ENTHUSIASTS! Come and join us for an indepth study of the Book of Deut.

Yup to all your ideas. Chapter a day is too fast.... Hurrying through is not good unless we are only going for the 'natural history" as apposed to the spiritual history/future.... I would like to think we are grown up enough to play it by ear... :)

jasonc i hope you join in i really need some one to keep me from going off topic....:rofl2

Since this thread is about Deuteronomy, is it off topic to be talking about Genesis?

The TOG

We can do it chapter by chapter, but we don't have to do one chapter a day. If people find somthing interesting, we could spend a few days on one chapter.

The TOG

That's what I was thinking. I have noticed that a lot of chapters have an average of 24 verses, some more, some less. So as we go into each chapter, If the theme of that chapter, I think what I will do is, look at each chapter before we start it and see how many subjects are presented in it, then break it down to two or more days. That will give us an opportunity to discuss each subject in one day. Sound good?

The only problem I see with a set schedule by subject is...
For instance, Reba sees many subjects that I don't see and mentions subjects no one else does, and Jason sees things from a Jewish perspective.
Is there a way to be a little more relaxed than an absolute schedule?

Thanks Deb, that is what WE have to figure out. Lets say that in chapter one, we break it down to each day of creation. The first day of creation would be the first day of study, and so on.

Well, I'm going to be happy just doing it no matter how it works. :)

okay, man I wish I had ramban on that. he spends four pages on the first chapter of beersherith.

Hey guys i am looking for the thread on the Book of Deuteronomy any one know where it is???:lol
Verse 15

And remember that thou wast a servant - In this and the latter clause of the preceding verse Moses adds another reason why one day in seven should be sanctified, viz., that the servants might rest, and this is urged upon them on the consideration of their having been servants in the land of Egypt. We see therefore that God had three grand ends in view by appointing a Sabbath.

1.To commemorate the creation.

2.To give a due proportion of rest to man and beast. When in Egypt they had no rest; their cruel task-masters caused them to labor without intermission; now God had given rest, and as he had showed them mercy, he teaches them to show mercy to their servants: Remember that thou wast a servant.
3.To afford peculiar spiritual advantages to the soul, that it might be kept in remembrance of the rest which remains at the right hand of God.

Therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the Sabbath day - Here is a variation in the manner of expression, Sabbath day for seventh, owing, it is supposed, to a change of the day at the exodus from Sunday to Saturday, effected upon the gathering of the manna, Exodus 16:23. The Sabbath now became a twofold memorial of the deliverance, as well as of the creation; and this accounts for the new reason assigned for its observance: “Therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the Sabbath day.” See Dr. A. Bayley‘s Hebr. and Eng. Bible, and see the note on Exodus 16:23.

adam Clarke on deut 5:15.tog will like that. it makes sense

Chapter 32 The Song of Moses, hardly a song as we know a song. God puts Israel in remembrance of the evil instead of good that they did to their God Who gave them so much benefit.

V.19 Explains why God didn't stop their rebellion against Him "Because of the provoking of his sons and daughters. And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be".

V.39 Displays the power of the God Israel should have treasured and followed. "See now that I even I, am HE, And there is no god (the word is plural as in gods, meaning any of the false gods of the heathen) with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal".

Moses last words before He blesses the Nation of Israel is, "For ti is not a vain thing for you; because it is your life".

Moses, the same day would die on Mt. Nebo, and be gathered to his people....I like that statement! Gathered to his people.

Lord i wish pray i had good use of words... these last chapters of Deuteronomy are sorta paralleled in the Revelation.
We read of the Rock how the Rock was ignored...
Deu 32:31 For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.
We know the Rock is Jesus ..... The Rock that gave them life giving water when smote... Is the same Rock that was smote on the Cross and gives living water.
We see this over and over in the history of the OT

Times are achanging... O the mercy and patience of our God. Example after example are giving to God's people....The OT shows Christ on most every page over and over from captivity to freedom ......
Jesus is now come... IMO God's center of history is Jesus... He is there in flesh blood and spirit....Again the Rock is rejected not only in spirit but in the flesh in the hands on beauty of our King.

Rom 9:33 As it is written, Behold, I lay in Sion a stumblingstone and rock of offence: and whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

1Co 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
1Co 10:5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
1Co 10:6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
Eph 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
Eph 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

Deu 32:44 And Moses came and spake all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he, and Hoshea the son of Nun.

Rev 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

many speak of the Revelation being the wrath of God. or the tribulation the wrath of God. Wrath for what reason? we have grace and mercy for sin we have to most perfect sacrifice in Christ...

IMO not speaking for CFnet....
Luk 11:29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet

Luk 11:50 That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;
Luk 11:51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias, which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation.
Luk 11:52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

Rev 15:3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God,

the TORAH! I never saw it that way.

What way Jason?
the song of moses, the entire chapter of deutermony is as as song, which for the most is rehash of the torah. I told a few jews and Christians that visions of John of jesus were in fact the torah,when it was given at horeb. I aslo said that jesus is the torah in the flesh as the Holy Ghost said that. the torah is from the very heart of god. its his nature.
