I saw a video clip, that goes with the Madonna song Like A Prayer, and there is what looks like a lynching scene in there.

Sounds good. It's good to apply a bit of logic here. Some bad, does not mean, all bad. Metal and rock musicians with tattoos, does not mean, therefore all metal and rock is bad. I think for example Disciple's Battle Lines, which questdriven reaffirms, above, is within the metal mainstream, is a very effective presentation of Biblical truth.

Yes, well it's common sense to take a piece of music of whatever style on it merits.If it communicates faith and Biblical truth well, more power to it. I think for example Disciple's Battle Lines, a heavy metal track, is very effective. It's not voided by the metal. A good track isn't voided by the careful use of screams, if they are done in a measured way. A good Christian metal or rock musician isn't made to no effect if s/he - and it may be a she as well as a he - has tattoos, etc. Like you say, it's common sense.

I like rock and metal. I go on lyrics. Music is music and everyone has there own taste. I cannot see how a distorted guitar or bashing drums or shouting loud, is "evil'. Its only a voice and musical instruments. Its the lyrics behind them thats the issues. And it not just some metal. Its all groups of music.

It's the lyrics which count for a lot; the style is more subjective.

So I guess your view would be that style, when it comes to music and musicians in their personal styles and preferences are subjective and not central, while what the words say or don't say are what really counts, one way or the other?

I know you do like hard rock and some metal, of course.

(This would kind of be my view, anyway.)

That, and that I'm into the anime Soul Eater. The avatar shows kind of a combination of two things I like best, I guess. (The anime has some pretty awesome and diverse background music and character themes, too.)

Rock, particularly hard rock, seems to be one of the types I listen to and enjoy the most. That seems to be pretty consistent. But I keep discovering more and more than I like things from all kinds of genres, too.

Yes, well maybe, too, hard rock has kind of helped you discover yourself a bit, as you've grown up?

I think there are distinct stages of life, really; and a musical journey can have something to do with them.

In some ways, folks, Heavy Metal seems to link in with quite traditional music, such as Bach's counterpoint, etc.

To some people who have a knee-jerk hostility to 'rock/metal', etc., this might be a somewhat startling observation, actually.

He is Australian; I think there are some Christian death metal bands down there.

I used to listen some death metal, I think. either way watch robotech on hulu and then change out the songs with say megadeth, black Sabbath and so forth. lol nice idea.
