I must be old, I can remember people smoking in church, the supermarket, restaurants,,,,,,,,,,,,

AND

In high school we had two 10 minute "smoke breaks" during the day.

Surely the fact that it is said the best wine was saved until last when people are drunk means that the wine Jesus turned from water was the same type of wine (regular) they were drinking.

And also, is it not what we do when taking alcohol that is bad, not the alcohol itself. I mean, an occasional drink that doesn't affect your behaviour cannot be bad?
 
The point is that God clearly spoke to your heart and told YOU to avoid alcohol.
1 Sam 15:23 is Samuel speaking to King Saul. "Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold. to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams, for rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king." NKJV

We each must obey and avoid those things that may be our downfall when God has written that on our hearts.

I found the references to fundamentalism interesting. None of the pastors of fundamentalist churches that I have attended have claimed that people did not drink fermented wine in the Bible. Nor did they require that the congregation abstain, but they made a practice of choosing leaders who set a good example by not drinking.

Perhaps that writer is thinking of the Holiness movement as taught by Wesley which may still cling to this idea. Nevertheless, I tend to lump any "legalism" with "the traditions of the pharasees". The law is the schoolmaster that leads us to Christ--teaching us our need for His grace. But Romans 8 shows us that the way to be freed from the tyranny of the law is to walk in the Spirit. Thereby we do not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
 
I drink alcohol. I don't believe it is condemmed in Scripture, although drunkendess is. One must be careful. Luckily I have not had the drunk experience yet. Being 20 I guess I've got a long way to go, but those first two years - a lot of people exploring alcohol and a lot of pressure. I've come out of that at the most tipsy, but not drunk.

What I will say is this: there is no command against consuming alcohol, and as such I believe it is a personal conviction issue. If the OP chooses to abstain, given their circumstances that may be a good idea. And if I was at dinner with the OP, I would not drink alcohol if it could be a stumbling block. In other words, Romans 14 applies here:

I don't drink but I find that you can eat enough hamantaschen and drink enough milk to become confused

thats a first the messianic site i looked into purim didnt say that. they mentioned a an bad tradition from the talmud of getting so drunk to forget.

show me a link to the either an orthodox site or messianic one describing what you say. i find it hard that orthodox do that.i drink milk alot.
