Coughing Issue

Alright, first off, I'll say that I very rarely get sick; and when I do get sick it is for a very brief time. This is where I'm stumped though. Probably 5-7 days ago, I developed this cough. It's not a deep, mucus-y cough, though sometimes stuff does come up (sorry for the details). Anyway, from Thursday to Friday I took a cough depressant/mucus breaker medicine and that didn't work all that well and quickly ran out. I was out in the fresh air of Red River Gorge, KY this weekend and thought THAT might help, but I was coughing sporadically throughout the weekend.

I have Cold-Eeze and some cough drops things that I suck on from time to time, but their relief is short term. It's strange, though, because I have no other symptoms. I feel completely normal sans this cough. Now it's feeling more and more dry...so I'm wondering if it's my throat...? I just want to get rid of this thing though, as it is more annoying than anything.

I know I haven't given all that many details, but from what I have said...anybody experience something similar and have advice as to how to get rid of this pesky thing?? Thanks.

;) ;)

dude, that stuff comes with the season. Tis the season to cough and sneeze, I suppose. What I've been doing is taking massive amounts of vitamin C, zinc, vitamin E, and b-vitamins. I mean, I do this anyway, but I did up the vitamin C to 10 grams (5 time release capsules 2x daily), and that seems to help. It killed off a fever I had pretty quickly. I'm still coughing up phlegm, but I'm not coughing as much and my sneezing has slowed down considerably.

Thanks. That's it though...it's JUST a cough. I literally have no other symptoms. No runny/stuffy nose. No sneezing. No headaches. Just a cough. I have vitamin C as well and should probably start taking that regularly again, but I'm not sure how that'll help a cough.

Do you have any experience with GERD? The problem may be in your stomach. See if antacids help.

Otherwise, I am with Christ_empowered regarding vitamins, except I'd add vitamin D as well --- 5000 units at least a day. Sunshine (the very thing they tell you to avoid :eeeekkk) and cholesterol (the other thing they tell you to avoid) are two vital components to making vitamin D3 as with these two things heart disease and cancers decrease, and so does illness. It's the best source, but unfortunately now the sun is too low in altitude in the northern hemisphere to manufacture vitamin D3 so you should get capsules.

My gut feeling is this is not serious, but you can try different natural things to cure it. If you are worried about cancer and have health insurance to cover tests, you can go to a doctor for peace of mind. But unless it's something serious, I would politely refuse any treatments they give as that would probably be worthless anyway, i.e. otherwise avoid doctors completely.

Haha yeah I'm not worried about it being serious; I just want it gone! :lol

Anyways thank you both for your advice. I'll probably have to supplement shopping in the near future.

Have you ever been diagnosed with mild asthma? I worked in respiratory research for 10 years, and this has asthma written all over it. Sometimes asthma is triggered by cold air, sometimes allergic triggers, and sometimes exercise. Usually people develop it in their childhood and grow out of it, but sometimes they develop it in later years.

"Mild-intermittent asthma" is evidenced by occasional flare-ups. You might try an OTC med like Clariton for a week to combat allergic triggers, but it's always best to see a doctor first. two cents
