Bible Study Crucify Your Flesh

All we ever read from you is "I said". How about what Christ has already said in full context of the OT and NT. Oops, I forgot you believe the OT is obsolete and we no longer need it. OK, even the full context of the NT never says emotions are the flesh, but how the flesh reacts to our emotions (thoughts of the mind) whether they are good ones or that which brings lust to the flesh causing it to sin as it reacts to it.

I said
lol All the verses that I post are from Jesus. Jesus took responsibility for the whole new testament.

John 14-26 says that the Holy Spirit brings to remembrance what Jesus has already said. By quoting the verses.

Parentheses are mine in these two verses.

This is Jesus speaking - John 14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you. (what Jesus taught before His death) 26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, (teach us of what Jesus already taught before His death) and bring all things (teachings of Jesus, not quoting) to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

If you understand that passions are emotions it makes more sense. But now look at these passions and see if you can find one that isn't an emotion.

[Gal 5:17-21, 24
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness,
20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,
21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told [you] in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. ...
24 And those [who are] Christ's have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

These are works of the flesh, not works of emotions.

Forinication, and adultery are works in f the flesh.

Well of course all scripture is the inspired word of God as He gave Jesus what to speak as He taught us the words of God, John 12:49, 50, but it takes the indwelling and teaching of the Holy Spirit to open our Spiritual eyes and ears to understand the full context of them just as the disciples needed the indwelling of the Holy Spirit before they could Spiritually understand what Jesus taught them as all they had was a carnal understanding. What you are presenting of what you say does not line up with the scriptures you are using as there is no full context of your "I said", but only bits and pieces you put together to make your point.

The scripture says these are works of the flesh.

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery,[c] fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. These workings may indeed be contrived within the soul, the unrenewed mind, but are carried out by the physical body, as actions.

In addition the sin in our flesh, in the members of our physical body, has desires that want to be gratified, in which the body must act to satisfy these lustful cravings.

Paul explains -

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. Romans 6:12–13

These desires within our body, can indeed be strengthen by what we choose to look at, in which the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes are working in harmony to bring about the lustful cravings of sin.

James says it this way -

13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. 14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. James 1:13-15

  • when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin;

A work of the flesh is just that, a work or deed that is performed by the physical body, which is called sin.

Thank God Paul teaches us the divine remedy -

For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
Romans 8:13

Here Paul plainly links the “flesh” as being the physical body.

  • live according to the flesh you will die
  • you put to death the deeds of the body

I must admit, that I appreciate and honor your excellent use of scripture, as it is evident that you rely on the scriptures to form your doctrine.

I have nothing but respect for that attitude.

I think we can both agree that these desires of the flesh are a combination of the physical body, together with the unrenewed mind full of sinful passions.

Which is why Paul urges us to...

Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. 2 Corinthians 7:1

  • let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit

Be blessed.

The Holy Spirit is that very Spirit that is God, John 4:24, as in what Christ taught are the very words God gave Him to speak, John 12:49, 50. God's Holy Spirit reveals the hidden mysteries of God's word only through those who are Spiritually born again, John 3:3-5; 1 Corinthians 2:6-10; Colossians 1:25-29 and indwelled with the Holy Spirit of God as the flesh (carnal mind) can not perceive that of the Spirit of God. This is why Jesus told the disciples to wait for the indwelling before they went out to preach that of what Jesus taught them as their carnal minds could not understand that which Christ taught, Acts Chapters 1 and 2.
