There once was an old man who had great faith. He lived in a fllood-plain. One day after a particularily hard rain, a Ranger pulls up in front of the house in a 4x4. The Ranger tells the old man that a great flood is coming, that he needs to evacuate. The old man insists on staying saying, "I have faith! God will save me from the flood!" The Ranger argues, but to no avail, and finally leaves to save more sensible people.

The next day, the floodwaters have covered the old man's yard, and are lapping at his porch. The same Ranger pulls up in a john-boat and begs the old man once more to evacuate. The old man remains firm, saying, "I have faith! God will save me from the flood!" The Ranger argues to no avail, and finally leaves.

The next day, the floodwaters have covered the 1st and 2nd stories, and a helicoptor flies in to hover over the old man perched upon the roof. The Ranger yells to the old man, "Climb up! We need to get you out of here!" Once again, the old man replies, "I have faith! God will save me from the flood!" As they argue, a wave sweeps the old man off the roof and he drowns.

The old man arrives at the gates of Heaven, and is greeted by the Angel Gabriel. The old man says, "I want to speak with God." Gabriel smiles and says that God wants to talk to him, too. The old man is ushered into the presence of God, and says, "Lord, I don't understand! I had faith that you would save me! What happened?"

God looks at him, sighs, and says, "I sent you a 4x4, a boat, and a helicopter, what more did you want???"

Question: Why not invite the man to attend some Church activity with you or get one of your guy friends at church to invite him?

This is a very good idea.:wave

Sorry we got so off topic. I am still trying to adapt to using this forum, the last one I was on was always going off topic in all it's threads.

Rachel: No, it was me that was running my mouth irrelevantly, too much, I reckon.

So re. crushes, it seems a long time ago now.

Blessings.

Hi Jesus'sGirl,
There is always another side to a story.
Ruth did force her way into marrying Boaz.
There's nothing wrong with confronting him and thus clarifying his intentions.
He may be shy or he may not be interested in a serious relationship.
Either way, you have a right to know.
Maybe he just needs a little push. Lots of young men are undecisive about a serious relationship.
It's quite common.

There are spiritual lessons in the kinsman-redeemer situation between Boaz and Ruth.

I do think it's hard to apply Jewish customs to church situations.

I know God gives us instruction for who to marry as in "do not be unevenly yoked."

Is there any other instruction?

Does God say He has one person picked out for us?

It's a very romantic idea, but there's no bible foundation for it. At least not that I know of.
But I think you can always ask God to help you make a good decision about whether to date/ marry a particular person.

I don't believe so specifically but in these ways

Mat_6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Mat_7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

<dir>Luk 12:29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
Luk 12:30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
Luk 12:31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
</dir>

All perfect scriptures to remember. I do believe that when we pray God will lead.

The idea of a "soul mate" is one that the world has come up with. We do not see it anywhere in scripture that I know of. It can be a very destructive idea. I believe that there are probably several if not hundreds or even thousands of perfect matches for one person that God would approve of.

Here is a true story of a pastor's wife. She and her husband were happily married for over 20 yrs. then he died at an early age. Later she remarried. She and her husband are happily married and enjoying a blessed life, as well. Was this second husband not alive when she married the first?

Im not looking for a soulmate. Jesus completes me. I want a guy to complement me. I just think it's a bad idea to ask a guy out. I talk to him and we are friends but if its in God's will, he will ask me out.

Jesus'sGirl:

My dear wife is my soulmate, anyway. It does happen, but we prayed a lot and waited on the Lord first of all.

Blessings.

Take it from a 20 year-old guy: don't ask a guy out. You can't imagine how insecure it makes him feel.

Be friendly, encouraging, and maybe drop some hints, but do not ask him out outright. Above all, pray. :yes

Update: Don't like him anymore. lol that was fast. I guess I really just don't want marriage.
