Very interesting article; I would be one to believe this is very possible.

My sister who is a nurse said that many times her patients knew when ther time had come, telling her she wouldn't see them again when said goodbye as she went off duty. They seemed very peaceful about it.

Yes,there have been many death bed visions.I know of the ones who say they see Jesus or a light.I have not heard of any visions of darkness or evil. Not saying it has not happened. Some do not have a vision. They just take their last breath.

That was an interesting article. I absolutely believe in this sort of thing happening, though i am finding it a little difficult to see the difference between a NDE (near death experience) and a DBV (death bed vision).

There is quite a difference. When you have a death bed vision you are going to die.You will not be coming back.

I don't believe any of it. They might be seeing something, but it's not their deceased relatives or friends coming to help them "cross over".

There was an article in a Christian magazine about Michael Landon. He was an actor who died of I believe it was pancreatic cancer. The article said that as he was dieing he was surrounded by his family. The last words he said was "This looks like it will be very interesting".I believe he was a Christian.

That's correct. Also, I might add, I believe that NDEs (Near Death Experiences) are completely misnamed. The person actually does die, not that they just come close to death. Then their spirit comes back to its physical body to reanimate it. A better term would be Post Death Experience.

I believe that the NDE became misnamed due to science's basic bias against spiritual dimension. It was simpler to explain that the person only came close to death as defined by medical parameters, then regained their vital signs, and revived.

I suppose that our Savior had the most famous NDE (hate that term, hate it) of all time. NDE would then be a type of resurrection in which the individual retains at least some memory of what happened while they were "out".

Back to deathbed visions, my friend was describing what would be the final days of his grandmother. I asked him, sort of out-of-the-blue, whether she had begun talking to already-dead relatives (I was already somewhat acquainted with deathbed experiences). He replied, "Funny you should ask...yes, she has been talking to (and named some of his deceased family members)". He didn't know how I knew.

My Pentecostal friend's husband saw stuff as he neared death. Angels and such. I dunno. On the one hand...I can believe that God would do that to provide comfort for the person and his/her family.

On the other hand...until you die, your brain is still functioning somewhat, right? So, maybe its a brain thing...like, as you die, stuff you've absorbed from your culture pops up at you to ease the transition. Like your final dream or something. I dunno.

All except for that consciousness is not in the brain. That's what I understand from watching scientific videos anyway. They can not find the part of the brain where consciousness arises. I think it's because consciousness is in the spirit, and memory.

Besides, didn't you read the article? The one lady came back from her DBV knowing that her relative had died, but they kept that a secret from her, so she had no way of knowing that!

A common deathbed experience is for someone to say they see a family member.

It's all about comfort I think. To die or whatever and suddenly be surrounded by a slew of big and bad spiritual beings would scare the crap out of most people. Seeing a familiar face would be mighty comforting at that time! The Lords no dummy, and doesn't want to scare us to life. lol.

but...what about non-believers in other cultures? don't they have similar experiences? That's why I was thinking it might be at least somewhat biological.

Why? When we die, no matter what culture or language, there's still going to be the same God there when we cross over. We're not humans on a spiritual journey, we're spiritual beings on a human journey. This is not an American thing, it's a human thing. zu verstehen? Czy rozumiesz? Lo entiendes? :wink

I have read a book "One Minute After You Die" by Erwin W.Lutzer.Not for the faint of heart. He tells it like it is.He is a pastor.I believe he is a Lutheran pastor.

I can tell from your words that you're skeptical. That's good. Don't be taken in by this stuff. NDEs and DBVs are lies. There's nothing in the Word of God to support such activity.

These things that people are calling their deceased loved ones are in fact familiar spirits. Demons pretending to be aunt Bessy or uncle Bill. Demons whose only job is to draw your attention away from the truth of the Word.

That's the common explanation science clings to, but is running out of steam. Doesn't explain things like describing relatives you've never seen.
