[_ Old Earth _] Did God Send The Hurricane ?

There has always been earthquakes, famines and pestilence. That is like having a prophesy that predicts something special will happen on a day when the sun rises.

The word Katrina means "cleansing" in Hebrew or Greek I think. Why would a Hurricane hit twice in the same area?
Why would it conveniently leave the French Quarter relatively unscathed?

Hurricanes

How about this scripture in Amos9:8?

"Behold, the eyes of the Lord Jehovah are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; save that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith Jehovah. " (ASV)

If God was trying to cleanse, it was an unclear message. What would have sent a message is if no Christians had been killed or no Christian houses were flooded. Or if His churches were not messed up.

As it is, God just hit the poor and black. All the middle class that can afford to gamble and go to strip clubs made it out.

This is a prophecy (a vision actually) about God's judgement against Israel, specifically the Northern Kingdom of Israel.

How considerate.

If that be the case, God must need a new prescription for glasses cause I doubt that all of the people that were "smitten" were pimps, hookers, drug dealers and the like. In fact, I'll bet there were a lot more church folks among the dead than reps of the first group?

Now if the storm had occured during Mardi Gras, and washed all and only those  party animals  away, then maybe churches like this might have something to crow about.

How considerate.

Too much is being read into the sign in the picture.

All it says is something that is true.

It doesn't state that the only people who suffered in the wake of Katrina would be non-Christians.

I believe that "the big easy is a modern day Sodom". Even comedians on television make jokes that the as soon as the strip clubs, brothels, and hookers, straight, transsexual and homosexual are back in place things will be back to normal.

I believe America has become a modern day Babylon as well.

When 9-11, the Asian tsunami and Katrina hit it caused me to remember that we live in a sin ridden and fallen world and to reflect upon my own need to be more Christ centered and less carnal. The church is not except from tribulation and punishment for wickedness.

Many Christians have discussed the fact that much of the church is back slidden and these sobering events should wake us up to the fact that we need to make sure as individuals and the church we attend is truly keeping Christ and His commandments as the primary focus.

The LORD called Jerusalem "Soddom and a harlot".

Why is it strange or out of line to call a city that openly practices and flaunts some of the most wicked sins a "modern day Soddom"?

America as a whole needs to reflect upon it's sins and turn to God.

Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Oh bloody...

New Orleans wasn't a haven of sex and booze. Only parts of it. Such as the French Quarter, which was unscathed compared to the areas that were flooded.

It seems odd God would skip over Bourbon Street when destroying an area supposedly populated by sinners.

New Orleans is known the world over as a place that welcomes sin.

If God was passing final Judgement on New Orleans and America it would be completely destroyed.

Catastrophe's such as this should be used as a time to reflect upon personal sins as well as national.

Even the secular world as given by the comedian example recognizes that New Orleans was famous for brothels, whores and strip clubs and wild times.

I cant remember where I read this, whether it was on these forums or a random email that was sent to me, anyways it was about a talk show who had a guest and the host asked this person some about god and why would he let such terrible things happen. To sum it up short to what I read, the guest briefly explained, how can god make things perfect and stop terrible things from happening all around when we just keep denying him and telling him we dont want him in our lives? We have tooken him out of our schools and many other things, so how can we blame god for such bad things when we dont want anything to do with him, how can he possibly help us if we do not seek his help? I found it to be an interesting read. It also reminds me of when I was lost. Things in my life just was not where I wanted them to be, and I wanted to get my life straightened out before I came to god, which is impossible. When I finally just let it all go and accepted him with all my problems, things started to straighten out. Have you ever seen those bumper stickers that say "Jesus is my co-pilot"? Well I disagree with that, cause I will let Jesus be the pilot and I will be the co-pilot. Let him navigate and get us through the storm, I am going to sit back and let him fly it. As far as the hurricane topic on what I think, natural destruction is talked about near the end of time. the coming of the messiah. Many people are being killed by natural disasters and the seals are being opened and many things in the bible which must pass has allready happened, amazing!! A good read was The signature of God by Grant R. Jeffrey which talks about many things which must come to pass and natural disasters.

Can you show ANY society godly or not that ever was immune to the situations you describe? Many people point to the past in the US when it supposedly was a more "Godly" nation. Lets look at some of the disasters that happened. How about the San Francisco earthquake? (before it became a haven for homosexuals) How about the Civil War that split the nation in two? How about the Galveston hurricane that killed thousands? Many were killed in a church praying to God for rescue. He didn't come. What does that say about the promise of those who sincerly pray expecting to be saved? I think they were sincere when they prayed , don't you? I can go on and on but the reality is God never protected any society no matter how devout or God fearing. Unless you can prove me wrong that should start to make you think.

I never denied it. But if God were passing judgement on New Orleans, why skip over the area known for drinking and sex?
