did we just earn it?

When we obtain/given something from God, did we just earn it or was it given to us on the basis of grace?
Simply put, can we ever earn anything from God? Look up earn from the dictionary.

If all is by grace, how about works or our efforts.
Another expression for grace may be unmerited favour. So let's look at the context more clearly. Note that I'm not talking about being saved. Some may argue salvation brings about everything.

I guess as i am a sinner saved by the Most Highs grace, only through Christ, thanks to the Most High and Christ, and if Christ is willing to cover my sinful butt, i don't think I earn anything.

I'm a sinner saved by grace. I don't and cannot earn anything, its a free gift not to be abused.

That's the good news.

My second post came few seconds earlier than yours. As if I read your mind. But can you make it more clearer? Thanks

I cannot make anything clearer other than I'm a sinner saved by The Most Highs grace through Christ only. That is it. I cannot earn anything. I fall short in the flesh.

Perhaps, but one thing's for sure.............you'll never purchase justification with your good works.

Note that I'm not talking about being saved.
Good works (a.k.a. obedience) will secure God's manifest love in the believer's life:

21“He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”
23 “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him."
(John 14:21-23 NASB)

The benefits of salvation are largely conditioned on obedience. Just as the Israelites could only dwell in and enjoy the Promised Land and it's fullness as long as they obeyed God's commands.

To experience God you must obey God.

I agree with Rollo we will not earn justification with our works.

I do think however that we will earn something from God. Firstly the crown of life. Not because of the works we do but as a result of our faith in Jesus.

I do think we will earn something from God in a sense. His praise as a result of walking in the way he has asked us to.

Matthew 25:23
His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

Matthew 25:31-40
The Son of Man Will Judge the Nations
“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Imagine the smile on our faces when hear those words. We do such things not to please God but because we love him. So we earn salvation because of belief and we earn "Well done good and faithful servant now enter into my joy"

Not sure I've said it right but hope it makes sense

It makes perfect sense.
"35Therefore, do not throw away your confidence (your faith), which has a great reward. 36For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.
39But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul." (Hebrews 10:35,39 NASB)

So many people are afraid to think that faith has a reward, even the reward of salvation. What can never be rewarded on the basis of earning it is justification. That is a free gift for the asking, and it is given entirely apart from works performed.
