People hate. Trying to catalog and box hate only gives more merit to those hating others or so they seem to think. I only say that given what comes out of others not to falsely accuse anyone. It accurs to me that if you remove labels and such that those who hate will still hate and those who don't still won't. W/O the labeling though the hate lacks justification and logic. I like to remove the titles and see whom I really am hanging around. It can get very interesting.

I'm not saying they're evil, just very very stupid. Their positions are bigoted, illogical, and without merit.

Give an example where either demonstrated bigotry, illogic or an unmerited position

Falwell blamed 9-11 on GBLTs. Bigotry, illogic and unmerited.

GB&L I get, but T? And I would agree that it was an irresponsible and unfounded claim. However, it does not fit the definition of bigotted.

He's got unfounded prejudice against a group of people.
Bigot(from dictionary.com):One who is strongly partial to one's own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

Well, I don't know the man and I'm not familiar with his views, but when we talk about Christians in general, it's not really that they are intolerant of people of differing beliefs, but that they are intolerant of the beliefs. And there is a difference. It's not that I disrespect Muslims - I don't, I think many of them are wonderful people - it's that I disrespect Islam - I think it is a false and hate mongering religion.

So that's where I don't see bigotry coming through on that one.

It seems to me like they do, i visit atheist forums from time to time, and the postings, language, comparisons, makes it seem that they hate Christians, and religion altogether with rage.

Yes is my vote.

(btw, I put this topic here so that the atheists wouldn't come and ruin it by trying convince everyone that they don't hate Christians.)

That is quite possibly one of the most ridiculous things I have read this week.

'Hate' Christians? Many of my best mates are Christians, and I expect this applies to most atheists in my position as well.

Atheists find religion distasteful, but to assume they personally 'hate' Christian believers is nothing short of sodding ridiculous. Do you find it personally gratifying to bundle people up into fresh little generalisations like this or something? The vast majority of people (and this includes even us 'immoral' atheists) judge people as individuals, not articles of faith.

Now pardon me if I am 'ruining' your topic, but it needs to be said (and already has been repeatedly, by the look of things, late as I am into this thread).

Blast. I wish I could find that piece of humorous self-mockery I wrote on the subject of atheists in my first week here. It would go down well in this thread.

Go to your profile and search for all posts you've made. They're all there, but you know better than I which one it is. I didn't feel like reading every single one to find a bit of self-mockery.

I didn't even know that was possible.

Hey-ho. You learn something new every day. :)

I hope I am not repeating something already said since I simply skimmed and read bits here and there (because I am so late and all - been busy sewing costumes for my next show!).

Anyway, I would have never assumed that Atheists hated Christians (not most of them anyway). I have found most of the atheists on this board and ones I have met through out my life to be very kind. My father is an atheist but I know he loves me regardless of my beliefs and I love him. Just like someone mentioned earlier, despite your beliefs, all people have different personality styles and we all have people that rub us the wrong way too - they don't have to be of an opposing religion or opinion to do that either!

I work with em, play with em, and am even married to one!!! So no .Not in my experience.

Some Atheists seem like they totally hate anyone who believes in God whether Christian, Jew, or Muslim. I am sure there are some that have tolerance to believers.

Of course, there have been times where Atheists hurt my feelings. :sad

There are many atheists & there are ones who are nice people. Some though can be mean.

I try not to get in discussions over beliefs with Atheists though. If I do I usually get angry.

It would be stereotypical to say that "all athiests hate Christians", some athiest 'hate' Christians just as some Christians 'hate' athiests. Sharing many of the beliefs of Buddhism I try to be very tolerant of others religions and know many Christians. I have no problem, up until people tell me that i am lost, say i need to be saved, try to "pray for me", tell me i am going to hell or ask me why I don't believe...none of your business, I could throw the same questions back at you but usually i'll instead smile and stare blankly for a minute or two.

ummm

You say atheists hate christians??? why would you judge all atheists?? i thought people were smarter than that. especially you guys. isnt it kind of rude to judge someone by thier beliefes or lifestyle? my best friends are atheists and they dont hate Anyone! they are very kind people. you should never judge people. you say atheists hate christians, but they dont. maybe a few do.. but im sure other people hate christians too. some people hate people for stupid reasons. no one should hate anyone. everyone should just respect everyones beliefes. who cares if they dont believe in god? that is thier choise and thier life. they are still human beings just like everyone else. no need for judging. lifes too short for that. atheists are normal people who dont believe in god. that is fine. believe in what you believe... and be happy.

HAHAHA! Ok, well, this is a little embarassing, but I watched that movie so many times! The one that came out in the 80's with Queen doing the music track for it. I couldn't help it, I thought Flash was so cute...even though I am usually partial to dark hair!
