Do you make ubelievers angry?

The believer and the unbeliever are two fundamentally different entities.
The unbeliever accepts what he sees, and the believer accepts that there is more than that.
It's two entirely different worldviews, on the opposite spectrum of each other.
But the unbeliever doesn't carry the mantra of conversion, and this is something I wish the believers would adopt.
Seriously, you rarely get anywhere but the argument turned on your head.
Stop it. This goes for the other side too. They won't stop believing any sooner than you'll start. Knock it off and leave each other alone.

Hi ColdBlooded,

You do your thing, and we'll do our thing. Don't push your values on me while you read about the Christians values on this site.

I think that is far too simplistic a view. 'Believers' come in many different shades and colors.

I 'believe' there is far more going on than I can 'see'. I don't 'know' what it is so I have few, if any, fixed and rigid 'beliefs'. Anyone who claims that nothing is real unless you can see it or prove it is (probably) fooling him/herself.

If you want a simple example, you can't see it and no one has ever 'proven' telepathy but many people will give you examples of it in their life - if only from their dogs. Identical twins seem to have some sort of connection.

As for people trying to get others to believe - why on earth not. They believe for a reason. One day you may hear someone explain their reason and find that it makes perfect sense to you. Until that day, live in peace with your unbelief but keep your eyes, ears and mind open. :twocents

One cannot make another person angry. One can say offensive things, but how people respond is their choice.

You wrote "I'm not even a good Christian yet". What is a "good" Christian? There is nothing good in a person expect the work of Christ in a person's life.

Ephesians 4:25-32 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. (26) Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, (27) and give no opportunity to the devil. (28) Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. (29) Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. (30) And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (31) Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. (32) Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

I find I tend to make more beleivers mad than unbelievers. I have a lot of strong opinions on topics and can't seem to take it when followers of Christ somehow flaunt his teaching. But I think that as Christians the world will hate us for simply living the truth. We don't even have to speak up for them to dislike us! I think being hated is quite natural

I try not to, but I think they despise those of us who follows Christ so much until it developes into hatred by default. I think deep down they want to be able to do the same thing, but it bothers them because they feel what they believe in or what they do throughout their daily lives defy the teachings of our Lord and Savior and they feel they are not worthy like we are. I think anyone is worthy. Our God doesn't turn away anyone, he accepts you so you can become even better :)

I find this quite sad. Either you are doing something to anger people or this is a persecution complex. The world does not hate Christians. Maybe 5-10% of the people do but that is just their ignorance.

Ditto plus, I am one of those who would love to be able to believe as you do. I have tried for nearly 70 years but I simply can't; there are just too many obstacles to full Christian belief. I see the serenity of a monk as a wonderful achievement. It is a lifestyle I envy but I simply can not ignore the other 99% of my knowledge. I simply have no idea how other people manage to do it :shrug

You should drop the words 'hate' and 'despise' and just accept that not everyone agrees with you. Some of them may mock or tease you but that is their problem, not yours. It doesn't mean they hate or despise you, they are more likely to envy you or pity you.

The title of this thread, "Do you make unbelievers angry"?
Yes, I make unbelievers angry.
Just ask Aardverk.
I don't mean to make him angry but I do.
It only means that I am a work in progress and that I need to continue to work out my salvation.

:toofunny He'd have to verify that.

You raise an interesting sub-question. Is it the person and their attitude or is it just when they say insulting, bullying or dictatorial things? :wave

Nice to see this old thread revived but, as has already been said, generally it is attitudes that anger, not words. If a Christian, Jew, Muslim, Atheist, Pagan, Hindu, etc starts telling me what to believe or telling me things that I know are half truths and propaganda, I tend to retaliate. Not, I hope, in anger, I'm too old to get worked up by most stupidity, but in a manner which makes it clear what he/she was doing wrong. I have a little skill with words and I am a mine of useful and useless information so quite often I can 'floor' the opposition without any real effort. My biggest problem is that I sometimes don't know when to stop. If the fool keeps fighting back after he is defeated, I will sometimes keep on humiliating him/her. I have known of that character fault for years but I have not managed to over-come it. :oops

So, if I have humiliated you allenwynne, now you know why ;)

So, you think you have humiliated me.
Do you know that I could legitimately interpret that as being mental mistreatment or trickery?
You should be more careful with the words you use.

Hi Aardverk,

You forgot to say one last thing. You know... the miracles that keep happening with you from time to time. :)

You can misinterpret my words however you want. You usually do.

But sometimes the halo slips so low I trip over it. :halo

This is the age of the ninny, where it's almost domestic violence to offend someone. People have been conditioned to believe that anything and everything is ok and so they can get to be a victim and garner support if anyone offends them. So lots of people tend to anger easily. This suppresses the spread of truth. You can't tell the truth to someone, because you might offend them. What a load of hogwash! I see that smarter people are less easily offended and angered.

Well said Edward. You are quite right, many people think they can get away with absolute drivel.

I will try to remember these words in case I ever offend you ;)
