Everyone Has a Favourite Word

The English language is a beautiful language. When I hear people speak English as a second language is interesting how they say things. I have listened to the BBC reporters interviewing some of these people and I realise that certain words are difficult for them to understand.

One word that I love and is special to me is the word COME

This word is mentioned in the bible 1971 times

A young child has fallen and the parent says Come dear:)

1. A person can beckon with their finger and this means come.

2. An angry parent can call a child and say Come here:shame

3. Someone is walking behind you and you say come on.

4. People can find excuses for not going somewhere and
they say I cannot come.

5. A person who has a foul odour is told, Don't come here.

Most of all this word is the word which says to most people I have achieved my goal in something special:):)

This word is a verb and I love it. There are many more instances where this word is used but these will do for now.

What is your favourite word:p

One of the words I've always thought the most beautiful sounding is ethereal. The word I've found the most interesting - but ugly sounding - is irredentism.

One of the things I like best about the English language is that there is alway a word that means exactly what you're trying to say, even if we've had to adopt it from another language. What is there, about 400,000 words in the English language?

The word I hate the most is "whatever"... not bad as words go, but if anyone has a teenage daughter and hears "whatever" accompanied by the toss of the hair and the roll of the eyes as much as I have, you'd hate it too.

English is a wonderful language and very adaptable (as most languages are...)

I would have to say that my most favorite word is probably "Hey..." "Hey" is a very versatile word. It can mean "Hello" as in "Hey there! :waving" It can expresses social caution as in "Let me tell you this joke about a stripper I heard..." "Hey....:gah" It can express agreement... "Fonzie is my favorite TV character." "Heyyy.. :thumbsup"

It's a friendly word... and change one little vowel, you got supper for the critters! :D

I go through favorite words; some weeks I have a certain one I love, then I move on to another one. I like this thread a lot, btw.

Right now, I'm fond of "banal." As in..."the banality of evil."

A hater of American Football. :toofunny... Join the earthquaking Spanish teams, Barça preferably. La Liga is the best.....
I love American football ... as well as what we call soccer to avoid confusion. Sorry if that disappoints ...

... I also like baseball, basketball, hockey, lacrosse ... I'm not sure I've ever seen a sport I don't like. Well, except for gymnastics and ice skating, but those aren't "sports" anyway.

(I'm ornery that way ... now I'll hide and watch.)

Football is quite preferably to soccer (in terms of usage - not actual meaning). FIFA World Cup is soccer...a better name is Football... So, for American Football (masked people is no sport at all :chin). It should be called: American Masked game;)

OK, abide, you had me to think hard on this one, but I would say the word awesome is one of my favorites as when used it represents something that is good and pleasing. Like, did you see that awesome sunset, or in Classiks case, did you see that awesome game:D

The only collision that is truly dangerous in soccer is when the 'keeper takes the ball of the foot of an attacker. I've played the position and have the bent-sideways nose to prove it. I also played fullback and middle linebacker in high school. They wouldn't give me a helmet (nor did I want one) to play 'keeper. I wouldn't have gone on the field without a helmet in football. Lyndon Johnson accused Jerry Ford of doing that one too many times and paying the price for it on the US House floor. (I think he was kidding, but who knows?)
