Bible Study Gender of the Holy Spirit : female personality

If God was only singular, then I could see this point.

However the word used for God in Genesis 1:26-27 is Elohim. A plural word.

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:26-27

Somewhere within the "Us" is a female, since they were created in the image and likeness of "Elohim".

God is our family.

For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
1 John 5:7

Notice it doesn't say... This one is three.

JLB
I agree. I was just thinking out loud.
"These three are one". That took some thinking on my part,(3 in 1 NOT 1 in 3)
but I did learn this from you months ago.

Wondering

Using this argument then, we must also necessarily conclude that the members of the Trinity are physical beings, having legs, arms, genitalia, etc. The problem is that you are thinking the way the world is currently thinking--that gender can be separated from biological sex.

Do angels, have arms and legs, and a head and feet?

Like I said, in the spirit realm, I can't explain how it works, but I do see in the scriptures, where both man and angels have similar features.

I do see where the Son of God was begotten, and is unique from the other sons of God [angels] as the Son of God created them.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. Colossians 1:15

What Father begets, is born of the Mother.

Not physical ones, not flesh and blood, but I clearly wasn't talking about angels. Of course, this still does not answer the fact that you are trying to separate gender from biological sex. As for angels, Jesus said that they do not marry, which is strongly suggestive that they have no gender either.

Merely quoting Scripture means nothing. What are you trying to show by quoting Col 1 :15? What do you think it says?

To you. I think they're on the honor system and do have genitalia.. That they do not marry is local custom, for God is the only one deserving of an individual's glory and worship.

I might as well tell what the Holy Spirit has led me through here. Remember, God is Omnipotent and nothing is impossible for Him. That is absolutely key to this entire issue. In Matt. 22:30 Jesus tells us we will be as the Angels and there is much debate over that. The issue for understanding scripture is to throw away your life experience because Heaven IS NOT like the Earth. That and the Bible, with some investigation, explains itself.

I have been threatened, cursed, and flat out declared stupid but you must go to God's method of marriage and there are repeated instances of Biblical Marriage in scripture but I'll just use the first marriage here. God presented Eve to Adam, they lay together and they were married. I AM NOT being stupid when I say that any couple that enters into a physical relationship is then, in the eye of God, married. And when Jesus said tere will be no marriage in Heaven He said the ain't gonna be no sex in them thar hills, folks.

No Spirit Being has ever been born, they were all created by God and so it is, there is no reason for genitalia because there will be no copulation.

Angels are sons of God and have the same features as humans, who are created in the image and likeness of God, so much so, that many have entertained angels unaware.

The scripture plainly says that mankind was created in the image and likeness of God.

Image meaning men and women look like God.

Likeness meaning men and women function like God.

Eve was created in the image of God.

Somewhere within the Godhead theirs a female.

Was The only begotten Son of God created or begotten?

No! Every human has a spirit, the image of God and God taught me that.

Hi Chopper,
This is all new to me but I'd like to say that I don't think rthome7 is trying to disqualify the third person of the Godhead, but is only saying that the personality of the third person might well be feminine.

Would this be such a great heresy?

On another thread I brought up the fact that some words in the bible have been altered to suit the belief system of the person doing the translating. I had said that the closer you get to an event, the more true its understanding will be.

I would find it rather upsetting to discover that a word in an earlier text was changed by a translator in a later text.

When Jerome translated the Hebrew bible into Latin, he complained that he had different versions of some words and/or verses to choose from and this must have given him problems (as to know which to pick).
And so, wouldn't he pick the version that best suited his own beliefs?

If the Holy Spirit was referred to as female in early texts, isn't it worth a look?

What would change? it would still be the Holy Spirit.

Just thinking out loud.

Wondering

First created, sexless, and later begotten a male.

Did I understand your answer correctly.

Are you saying the Son of God was created, and not begotten?

JLB

Does God have genitals?

I would have to say yes, since Jesus walked this earth as a man, and certainly urinated.

Furthermore He will have a wedding and ultimately be called....
Everlasting Father.

Personally, I don't like anyone tampering with classic Church dogma that has had the approval of early Church Fathers, and modern theologians for centuries. You said, "What would change? it would still be the Holy Spirit." My objection is the Nature of the Holy Spirit. There is a distinct difference between masculine & feminine traits. Just leave the Holy Spirit alone. Who knows what the Holy Spirit thinks of being referred to feminine. For me? I don't dare grieve the Holy Spirit of God because I desperately need Him as I post Truth in CF.net, and counsel hurting folk.

Wisdom is known by her children.

If you are trying to build a case from the masculine pronoun, then your already sunk.

Strong's G1565 - ekeinos - he, she it, etc.

We have to examine the whole of scripture.

Can you answer this simple question from Genesis 1:26-27?

Was Eve created in the image and likeness of God?

JLB

No. Eve was not created in the image and likeness of God. She was taken out of man...

No. Eve was not created in the image and likeness of God. She was taken out of man...

27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27

Who created Eve?

Eve was taken out of Adam.

Eve was created from the same substance that Adam was.

God created Eve.

He created them both male and female.

Was the female created in the image of God?

Hmmm. So they would be in the same image & likeness then.
OK, I'll buy that.

In heaven?

By having a shape he can't be omnipresent. Jesus wasn't omnipresent on the earth.
