Getting a tattoo

I was just checking out your location, and it says that you are in the universe without God, therefore you wouldn't understand the things of God until you get into God's universe. Your universe is mythological. God created the one I am in. If you don't believe this, you are in the wrong forum. I just want to know how else "Do not ... put tattoo marks on yourselves." is supposed to be interpreted. It seems pretty clear cut to me. I can't see how my belief or non-belief in God can change the meaning of that sentence.

I have two tattoos and I don't regret them one bit. In fact, I think I'd regret not having them at this point. They are as much a part of me as any other part of my body, only better, because I chose them and they have a deep meaning to me.

A good rule of thumb with any tattoo regardless of what it is is the "six month rule". When you think of a design you want, remember it and wait six months. If, after six months, you still want it, you'll likely be able to appreciate it throughout your life. If you follow this rule, you'll likely get a tattoo that has a deep significance to you. Even if you grow out of whatever phase it is that prompted it, it can still act as a reminder of that part of your life.

To the OP, I would highly recommend against asking others about your tattoo. If you are getting a tattoo that is a tribute to your spirituality, it should be something that resonates with you. A passage that you read from the Bible that really stuck with you and acts as a guiding piece of wisdom or a religious image that means a lot to you spiritually. You're probably not going to get either of those by asking a bunch of strangers on these forums. As with most things spiritual, in my humble opinion, you are better off exploring the possibilities on your own rather than asking others about it.

How do you determine which ones apply to today and which ones are outdated?

By the law that the Holy Spirit wrote on my heart when I was born of God. Jesus taught that the two laws that all of the commandments hinge on are to love the Lord thy God with all of your heart, mind, soul, and with all thy strength, and the second is to love your neighbor as yourself, enemy included.

Therefore stealing is wrong as it affects my neighbor negatively. Murder is wrong as it affects my neighbor negatively. Worshiping false gods is wrong as it affects my love toward almighty God. Getting tattoos for me is something that God did not like in the Old Testament so I have to question whether it would cause others to stumble, and if I would be doing something against God. Personally, tattoos are not something that I have ever desired, so I never had to make a decision.

That is how I make determinations on any and all things that arise in my life. I check out the whole Word of God.
