Doing good in the weight room.



220 lbs on the leg press
200+ on the calf machine
190 on the chest press
285 on the butterfly
220 on the back curls
200+ with 40 reps at a time on the ab machine
220 on the tricep push down
200+ with 30 reps at a time on the tricep dip
120 on the shoulder press
130 on the bicep curl machine
55 lb dumbbells in each arm for bicep curls.

I can also jog 2 miles without stopping and go for an hour straight on the elliptical machine and burn over 600 calories.

supporting you in prayer as you push for your goal - quite impressive what you have done so far - are you doing a high protein diet too?

You gotta keep it up.

My workouts have been put on hold for the holidays...but I have to have them or else I don't feel so good.

I don't have to have quite the strength training exercise you do...but I do some.
I do walk/jog...at least 20 minutes 3-4 times a week that gets my heart pumping to 120/mn. If I want to live and not die I keep very active.
I don't care about "looking good" for the ladies as my wardrobe will attest. But I do care about kids and grandkids... and they will need me. Wife enjoys having me around too.
Without all that exercise my cholesterol shoots through the roof and medicines do nothing for it. Heart disease is rampant in both sides of my family. So...for them I gotta be around. Wish I didn't have to be here for them...but that's my job.

I prefer bacon and hash browns and all that good stuff. But I know better...so I deny myself. I've been without bacon in months. So this morning I was going to cook some up. (Not nearly as much as I used to)

Every guy has to do this according to a research scientist I was talking to. Vitamins have some effect...but not that much... only slightly more than placebo. 20 minutes of Exercise 3-4 times each week has radically more benefits than any diet ever thought about. (I was shocked when I heard that)
Illness and disease are really put off by exercise too as we age. (Except for tendonitis, shin splints, and other exercise related injuries)

When the holidays are over I'm going back to the gym for cardio and strength training.
Especially for back muscles (mine are killing me).
I'm baking too many cookies and goodies and have no time for it.

awesome. this is somewhat inspiring for me. now that I'm genuinely, truly (miraculously) healthy...its time to get lean n buff n stuff, so...yeah. thanks.

and...I hope things keep going well for you with the workouts and diet. i try to eat lots of fruit, too....the experts say 'eat the rainbow' of fruits and vegetables, to stave off cancer and heart disease, etc. i lean more towards fruits, cuz i have a sweet tooth. personally, antioxidant and b-vitamin supplements are a big part of my daily routine, too...nothing expensive (vitamin C is usually CHEAP, thank goodness), but...I do take high doses, because I'm into orthomolecular.

All the above. I eat a lot of protein and fruits for energy when I work out.
i know the conventional nutrition info is to go heavy on protein and veggies as a low calorie option - but i too like protein and fruit -

fruit gives immediate energy - and protein gives long burn energy as well as muscle repair elements - so really a good combination

did you know that eating protein within 30 minutes of a workout will help reduce or eliminate muscle pain? - creatine especially is a good source of muscle repair protein - whey is also good

fruit is awesome. honestly, when i do eat vegetables, i lean towards the sweeter ones, such as carrots (with hummus...yes, indeed. good times).

the big let down for me was realizing that one can get more vitamin C in one tablet (or, in my case, time release capsule...easier on the stomach that way) than from eating loads of fruits and vegetables all day. part of it is just the nature of modern agriculture...each single vegetable or fruit doesn't pack the same nutritional punch as it did, say, 50 years ago. :-(

sorry to keep rambling on this, but really high dose vitamin supplementation has been quite good for me, so I keep pushing it on people. Natural form vitamin E, added to everything else I take, has been a real life saver...

for a while there, I had definite signs of antipsychotic/tranquilizer treatment, including facial tics and stiff gait (used to be called the "Thorazine Shuffle"). I started Orthomolecular, and now...

no facial tics, no Thorazine shuffle, and I -still- have to take Abilify at a full dose. The vitamin E was the real champ there...1600 IU/day helped reverse the tics. true story.

anyway...not trying to hijack the thread (congrats on getting fit, btw...), but...consider at least some vitamin supplementation. even with an ideal diet, supplementation can fill in gaps and improve overall health. :)
