I am posting this other version of The Legend of John Henry because although I did happen to like Johnny Cash's version, (and I do love Johnny Cash! :biggrin2) it just wasn't the version that I remembered so here it is along with some more patriotic/ military songs to show my love and support for the troops! :salute

Hey everybody!! I've got a very important announcement!! :biggrin2 First of all happy Leon day, (Noel spelled backwards as this is our half Christmas) and we've already officially started summer. :shades Second of all on July 4th ( or Independence Day) at eight o'clock there will be Macy's Fourth of July Spectacular on TV at eight o'clock Eastern time. So if you can't make it to the fireworks this year, you can go ahead and watch it on your screens instead.

I will go ahead and TRY to post the livestream of it for those of you who don't have cable as apparently it has been on YouTube in previous years. Anyway as usual I will be watching both as my fireworks display is so close all I have to do is take my chair and walk up the street. I just got to go ahead and cross my fingers that the weather will cooperate and we will have a campfire all day in the backyard like the previous couple of years and have a cookout as well as make S'mores, and play with my sparklers and snakes before I go see them. Man, I'm so excited!!! :woot

Also, here's just a little reminder. On July 5th my virtual Christmas in July pool party will open, but until then, once again,.. Happy Independence Day ya'all!!!

land of the free, one must have state permission to own fireworks? what state is that? I know my state has some restrictions on that.

Maybe taking a safety test before being allowed to buy them.

Some people just should not have them. Others can use them responsibly.
ok , why not have laws for fixing cars where one must be a mechanic, people do unsafe stuff on cars a lot with tires. I have seen a tire mounted incorrectly to the hub, the acorns were on backwards. I understand the safety, but really at one point do we decide that Darwin will take care of the idiots. im for education.

this is how it is the army. I can operate a million dollar piece of equipment but must demonstrate to the chain upon going to drive home that im taking proper precautions, safety. the problem with that is that one looses the ability to actually take care one self. theres plenty of stuff I can rant about safety regs in the army that are plain over reactions.

whats next? licenses for cell phone(smart phones) so that one will know that one shouldn't walk and use a smart phone. people do that, I have at times. of course given my machine, I will post that monstrousity from work tomorrow. I have to walk and read meters and cross streets while verifying my address im going to. it becomes unnecessary when I know the route.

Well that's just my point. Writing laws doesn't instill common sense. People say 'you can't legislate morality,' but that's ALL laws are! Right from wrong, with only punishments for doing the wrong thing.

As a society, we need to realize this approach isn't working. We need more cookouts!
I should do a thread on the origins of:

stop lights, and also licensing for cars and why we have tags for cars.

quickly the stop light colors come from the train sephemore and the meanings are the opposite, save yellow.

No offense or anything brother but owning fireworks is a lot different than owning a cellphone. A smart phone, although complicated won't kill you but fireworks can and have. By the way though, thank you again for serving our country. :saluteI personally think that Michael74 is onto something with the safety test.

Well, some people own them illegally, but being a free country does not mean being an irresponsible country. :nonono

unless its really, really necessary, I don't believe in banning things.

one has to have a license in my state to fish in my OWN pond even if I fill the darn pond with my fish and water and have it on a dedicated well. its for public the good. where does one stop with these things. that's my point.

I've got to admit that you have a point there. Not being able to fish on your own property without a license is rather ridiculous, but my point is that sometimes we need laws in place to protect the citizens in our country.

read the regs, I see this while driving and got nearly ran over while walking back east in my walking cycle.

I can post the army regs on the ban of using a cell phone while running, walking and driving. its been around a lot longer then any state law.

Police in Honolulu on Wednesday will begin writing tickets for people who get distracted by their cellphones while walking in a crosswalk. Honolulu is the first major city in the country to pass such a law, citing a high rate of pedestrians being hit in crosswalks.

"Starting today, texting while walking in a crosswalk can get you a ticket," Hawaii Public Radio's Bill Dorman reports for our Newscast unit. "In fact, a downward glance at a screen of any kind will cost you — a phone, a tablet, a video game."

Under the new law, the only legal reason for a pedestrian to use a cellphone while crossing a street or highway would be to call 911 to report an emergency.

Minimum fines for breaking the new law start at $15; for repeat offenders, the penalty ranges from $75 to $99. Higher rates — up to $100 for a first offense, $200 for a second, and $500 for a third — had been considered earlier this year.

Mayor Kirk Caldwell signed Bill 6, also known as the Distracted Walking Law, in July. At the time, he said that Honolulu held "the unfortunate distinction of being a major city with more pedestrians being hit in crosswalks, particularly our seniors, than almost any other city in the county," as NPR's Miles Parks reported.

According to HPD, more than 10,000 citations were issued last year for mobile electronic device violations.

As the law took effect, the city of Honolulu cited a National Safety Council warning that when pedestrians use a cellphone, "this distraction can cause them to trip, cross roads unsafely or walk into motionless objects such as street signs, doors or walls."

After thousands of distracted walking injuries were reported, the NSC says, it added a new category to track the trend in its annual statistical report, Injury Facts.

In the 90 days since the bill was signed, Honolulu police have been working to remind people of the risks of using an electronic device while walking across a street — risks that, as of Wednesday, also include a fine.

from themselves?

trust me I can go on and one on cell phone use and fires from using them while pumping gas? see where this is gonna go? where does it stop? im known for being safe, while im not always but that is my reputation.

I get the fireworks issue. my state has outright banned any fireworks because of fires, from even a simple sparkler. during drought is very dry and grass will ignite easily and set it off. years ago a cigarette caught the woods near me and nearly forced the evacuation of the homes by where I live now. the home I own wasn't built then,

ok , why not have laws for fixing cars where one must be a mechanic...

People need cars to go to work, and do shopping. It would not be practical to require a mechanic's test before selling people a car. Most most people don't do their own maintenance, and don't know how. The economy would be needlessly affected. OTOH, no one needs M-80s to carry out their daily activity. Requiring a safety test before sales of such would prevent people from harming others inadvertently.

States do require a demonstration of safe driving skills before issuing a license to drive on public roads.

So your saying because people need it for work and dint do maintance, they don't fix lights, seat belts we should have no.license to endure the car is safe?

Plenty of states will pull your tag for unsafe vehicles.these actually are inefficient as most shops are bribed to pass.I know monica not having the money would bribe her examiner to allow it to be drivable.

In 2000 remember the Ford Explorer tire issue? It's why we have that idiot safety tire pressure system.the tires were good thr drivers drive with low pressure.

I check tires, people often dont understand the basics, I can go there about my state dmv testing.I learned more in the 88m school then any local driver course.

I get the licensing but given what I see I can see the need for a certified shop, despite I'm against it.a certificate on the wall doesn't mean you know how to fix things.

people work around that law often. they fire them off all over in my state. its kinda silly. " a roman candle" is for ag purposes in the city of Miami? lol

States generally require drivers to maintain their vehicle in a safe condition, but they let people figure out for themselves how to do so. Police will stop people for tail lights.

Yes, needing something for work matters. If people can't work, they can't eat. Not eating is unsafe. Not using an M-80 isn't.
