Should The Private Ownership of Firecrackers Be Allowed?

Hey guys! I really hope that you all enjoyed Father's Day yesterday with your fathers and showing them how much you love and appreciate them. :) So, now that Father's Day is officially over, it is that time of year again when pretty soon us Americans will be showing our love and appreciation towards our country (like Father's Day that doesn't mean that we shouldn't do that every day) by setting off fireworks, having cookouts and barbeques, going to parades, and playing with sparklers, snaps, and snakes.

So, that all being said I have a very important question for all of you. Do you think that the private ownership of fireworks should be allowed? There is currently a bill being proposed for the state of Ohio to legalize them. I am currently on the fence about this one, but I'm leaning more towards no than yes as to how many accidents occur even with them currently being illegal. (at least here) I just think that it can be really dangerous so it's probably best to leave it up to the professionals. :yes Anyway, for the next two weeks this thread will be open to be a virtual cookout as well as having all of your patriotic tunes. :biggrin2

We have hotdogs, hamburgers, and cheeseburgers, as well as pop, (and pretty much any virtual drink that you could possibly think of) corn on the cob, potato chips, and a variety of desserts. :biggrin Just don't forget with all of the excitement just what exactly we are really celebrating. Tons of people sacrificed their own very lives for this country so that we could be free and have our independence. :salute So, with that in mind,.. happy 4th of July everybody!!!!! :woot

I'll go ahead and start up the grill while you listen to some of my favorite patriotic hits. :wink

They are legal in Michigan. My two neighbors spend about $5,000 each year to put on the best show in our small town. Yeah... they got the big bad boys.

Maybe taking a safety test before being allowed to buy them.

Some people just should not have them. Others can use them responsibly.

Good idea Michael and I'm still not clear on whether or not you're an American, but welcome to the party anyway! :wave2 As well as you mister StoveBolts! So what would you guys like to eat? Burgers or dogs? While you're deciding, here's some more patriotic music to listen to. :wink Thank you for coming to my party! :hugIt seems like you guys are never all that far away whenever I have a new one. :lol Just a very special announcement that I was originally going to leave as a surprise, but I figured that I would tell you guys now instead. On July 5th, (the day after Independence Day) get ready for my Christmas in July Virtual Pool Party! :woot2I think that will be rather exciting and all are more than welcome to attend. :yes Anyways, now back to the business currently at hand.

It's interesting that in the US, laws are written with the assumption that people are idiots, while in Europe they're written (or at least they used to be) with the assumption that you have common sense.

I'm reminded of the US pro athlete who blew up his hand with fireworks, and the other that drove his speedboat into rocks, costing him his life.

We are entirely too litigious as a society. Most laws about this stuff are designed around liability, rather than anything sensible.

Not sure how that factors in to what to do about fireworks being legal, are we a free Country? Lol

Yes we are a free country which if you recall me posting at the beginning of this thread, is the whole entire purpose for Independence Day in the first place. However, I can pretty much guarantee you right now that although I have learning disabilities, I have a lot more common sense than a lot of people that exist in the world today. And unfortunately a lot of laws exist because of the lack of it. For example, you would think that it would be common sense not to drive a car without a license or not to drink while driving, but a lot of people do that too. By the way, welcome to the party! :hug Don't forget about the virtual dogs and burgers sizzling, there's plenty for everybody! :wink I'll come back later to work on this thread more.

Well that's just my point. Writing laws doesn't instill common sense. People say 'you can't legislate morality,' but that's ALL laws are! Right from wrong, with only punishments for doing the wrong thing.

As a society, we need to realize this approach isn't working. We need more cookouts!

Can I have a Bratz and a coke please?

Yeah sure, but would you mind waiting for a bit? I'm a little busy right now and I can't get to my laptop. By the way, I see that Ray made it to being a moderator. :) Well done Ray! :thumbsup I love you buddy and brother in Christ! :hug

Alright I am extremely sorry that it's taken this long to respond but it's been just one of those busy days. :neutral Anyways, I was also going to add on here that another problem with fireworks,.. is that they keep you awake! :coffee Even the professional ones! Sometimes those things keep me up until like two o'clock in the morning and so I turn into this the next day. :grumpy Lol, :lol don't get me wrong, I love watching them, but they also can be a bit of a pain in the butt too if you know what I mean. Jeff here's your Bratz and coke. :dietcoke(I sure hope that diet is alright with you)

Although for the life of me I can't figure out why you want to play with dolls. :shrug ROTFL!!! I'm sorry, I couldn't resist! :hysterical I really had no clue what you were talking about but I'm pretty sure that wasn't it LOL!!!! Here's some more patriotic tunes real quick before I head off to a concert into the park. :rockingOh and by the way, let me just add that I also believe that being careful what you put out there online and not giving out any personal information to anyone you don't is also common sense and it's better to be safe than sorry. :yes

I'm sorry, I wanted to let you know that I was joking before but I had to get ready for the concert which was really good by the way. :wink Anyways, here's your coke, love ya :hug:coke (I forgot that we had that emoji lol :lol) Here's some more patriotic tunes before I sign off for the night. :biggrin

Love Independence Day and Martina McBride. As first saw her in 1992 as she was the opening act for that of Garth Brooks before she became a star herself. God bless the USA the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

Thanks, I know that it really isn't about the holiday Independence Day, but it's about independence for sure! :yes ( or I guess that it has double meaning) and I have to admit that my mother made a really good point when she told me that people set fireworks off illegally anyways so what would be the difference if they made them legal. Lol, I think for that reason I'm going to wind up changing my answer.

We have a party pooper.

Eh,.. that's alright. I was sort of the fence about it for awhile myself and I still haven't made my mind up about it completely. Anyways, here's some more tunes! :wink (not really sure a couple of these are patriotic but they're on one of my American tapes so,..)
