I finally saw this movie last evening. For me it is so refreshing to get to settle in and watch a movie that comes from the christian perspective (as there is so little in terms of movies and/or TV programming that does so). I thought the movie was pretty good. I liked the way the young student took on the challenge and the related bible verses that clearly stated he should be doing so. I also liked the fact that he took on some of the most recent assertions from the most prominent atheists regarding evolution and the creation of our universe etc. What did others think about this movie?
 
I saw it twice.
Great movie.
But there is criticism of it as always.
Some people find things wrong with everything.

Aside from that, show me a better Christian movie.
It continually builds up your faith in Christ.
 
A friend of mine had me watch the movie with him and some other friends to get my opinion on it. I thought it was alright. My criticism is that all the atheists were extremists in their views and didn't feel real to me. Though I don't expect films to accurately portray people, they use hyperbole to get their point across on purpose. I think the film will do what it intended and that is make Christian viewers happy. Though I will say that those that walk away from the film thinking they can now debate with people to hold criticism of Christianity from a philosophical viewpoint will quickly learn that most of the arguments in the film are not the top tier arguments, or that the defintions aren't exactly the same as in the movie.

I give the move a 6 out of 10. It clearly gives its message, and I enjoyed some aspects of the film. Its attempts to make Atheists all into shallow 2 dimensional people leaves much to be desired, especially since Its actually cartoony.
 
I saw it a while ago now. I found some of the acting kind of eh. The story was alright, but rather predictable. It does tend to be the case that the atheists who are so against Christianity are really angry with God (who they say they don't believe exists) for something that happened in their past. This really speaks to the reality that the people who become atheists are really holding to the fallacy that God somehow owes them something.
 
This is going to sound terrible, BUT...

A lot of Christian pop culture doesn't strike me as all that great. I mean, OK...its good to have movies from a Christian perspective. No doubt. But...a lot of Christian music is just a pale imitation of secular music, with Jesus-stuff added, or so it seems. Christian movies, the few that I've seen, are good and all, but they're also not as well-developed in terms of plot and acting.

That said...I think we're just now at the point at which Born Again Christians are emerging as a separate market. We have our own tastes, our own demographics, etc., so the pop culture making people are just now learning how to appeal to (most of) us. So, I figure in 10+ years, we'll have Christian movies and music with a whole new level of development and sophistication.
 
A lot of Christian movies are rather poorly done or written. I thought God's Not Dead was better than most. I really liked that it didn't treat things as a fairy tail: no "God fixes everything perfect so problems never exist again and everyone lives happily ever after" ending that so many Christian movies seem to have.

Aside, I agree with Christ_Empowered. Christian pop culture tends to be lower quality and be held to lower standards of quality, for whatever reason. I guess people tend to excuse it on the grounds that it has a good message, but a message isn't really gotten across effectively if the execution is terrible, y'know? (Music is a bit more developed than films and such, I think. Though IMO the best music isn't what the Christian radio stations typically play.)
 
lovely, I haven't seen the movie but really? substance a real story about our faith would be nice not something to make money with.and we wonder why the church is laughed at in 'merica.

It was a good movie, I even took some of my friends who are not believers because they wanted to see it. One of them started going to the Bible study I have at my place.

I agree, wholeheartedly, with you about 85% of contemporary Christian music... possibly, more.

No, the movie wrote all the characters as God hating and terrible people. As a whole. The professor was a complete ego maniac, the bussiness dude was just an uncaring money centered douche, and the reporter was mega liberal. They were all 2 dimensional.

im surprised you didn't leave with that and not finish the movie. that would be insulting if I was an atheist.

I think the problem was that the film had too many plots going on at once. None of the charactets had enough time to be fleshed out so the extremes are used to convey the antagonist as easily as possible. If one or 2 of the side stories had been cut we could have had better rounded characters.

I may watch this anyway. I don't think its good to just make 2d characters on this subject matter. of course a two hour movie that is asking a lot.
