The reason I shared about such odd responses from believers, or even whole discussion forums,
where superficially it appears we follow the same belief system.
But you scrape the surface and there are things missing.
1. Repentance for sin, confessing and working through sinful behaviour to resolution
2. A belief that the believer needs to put on the things of God and do something
3. Primacy of Jesus's words and scripture as the final authority
4. Obedience, holiness, purity, righteousness discussion or direction
5. Being a shinning light to the world through good works
6. Following Jesus
Legalism, brain washing, deception, rooting out the wolves is their mission.
The phrase that is most commenly used is adding to the cross.
So what is actually the consequences or outworking of the cross become the idea we
are blaspheming by adding to the cross and trampling on His work.
Some make their theology so strict, ultra-legalist, no human even empowered by the Holy
Spirit could walk without sinning. The idea is to suggest we are always lost in sin.
We therefore need Christ to be our substitution constantly, so God sees Him rather than
us. I would suggest, through repentance and confession we are continually washed and made
clean, so that there is no problem God seeing us, and Jesus cleanses us literally.
So yes our walk is only possible through Jesus, but we are being refined, transformed, made into
His image daily. Now some might feel, even in other views this is impossible but Paul talks about
being pure, holy, blameless, without spot or blemish.
He calls us to have no hint of sexual immorality, impurity, ungodliness.
For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.
1 Thessalonians 4:7
Just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do
for it is written: "Be holy, because I am holy."
1 Peter 1:15-16
Join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God, who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace.
2 Tim 8-9
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God's holy people. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person--such a man is an idolater--has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Ephesians 5:1-5
Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
2 Tim 2:22
