Hair: how short have you gone? how long?

Thanks Claudya, I wish you had been there too ;)

It was a time of optimism for a more loving, more accepting, more peaceful world. We thought that by the time my generation became world leaders everything would be better. It didn't work out that way :gah

faeriecat:

Sounds like you're out of the military now, else they would keep wanting it to be chopped down, I guess.

Blessings.

I am out, yes. And no, female soldiers do not have to chop their hair, it just has to fit certain guidelines -- restrained into a bun for example, off the collar and off the ears. I chose to chop mine due to lack of water in the desert as it would be hard to keep it properly maintained and due to the nature of my jobs over there.

You surprise me! I would not have guess you to be a head in the clouds romantic :crazy

I think for the military it needs to be above the neck or collar, right? and with ears exposed because of this style women need to wear one small stud in the middle of each lobe, right? for formal parade, or something like that?

Blessings.

Actually the style is to keep the uniform appearance and so that your gas mask and helmet fits correctly. :)

Well, yes, I can understand this! :)

I seem to remember reading something as well about, because the hair on formal dress parade needs to be short and exposing the ears, or something like that, women have got to have a single piercing in the middle of each lobe with one stud, if I'm not mistaken.

Blessings.

lol Sorry I was so shallow to think only about music and cothing and forget about the 60s' vision of a better world.

What your generation did changed the world and can never be undone!
We gotta keep fighting for those ideals. Maybe we just gonna have to change the world a little slower than your generation had hoped.

I'm glad to hear that you understand the dream Claudya.

The world is actually better in many ways. Although both have some way to go yet, prejudice has dropped off dramatically and equality has increased considerably. We are a step closer to that 'Great Big Melting Pot' ideal.

The biggest negative is the rise, rise and rise of corporate power. We have all been force-fed adverts since the cradle and almost everyone is now an unashamed materialist. I see no escape from that and I must confess to enjoying all sorts of unnecessary luxuries. I would have been ashamed of myself back then.:oops

Don't feel too bad about it... My cousin is about your age and still wears flowers in her hair. All of her children are.. unique. Way into Bob Marley and Ja is their Jesus. All of em on state assistance of some sort I may add.

I had my summer running with the Rainbow family but I was smart enough to get out and make something of my life. Don't get me wrong, if they want to life that way then fine, but we shouldn't be giving them food stamps etc while they rally for socialism.

C: There might have been some good aspects, but there were also some less good aspects of the 1960s.

I wonder why today's youth is so desinterested in bettering the world.
They're probably too busy with liking facebook posts. :(

You shouldn't feel too bad about your luxury.
It's easy to live in a tent when you're young, but it seems the older people get the more do they need material safety.

Claudya:

You see, with the 1960s also came the idea of self-gratification now, me first; forget the courteous conventions and sense of duty.

(Getting a bit off-topic, though...)

That idea is a lot older. Probably as old as mankind.
And from what I heard true hippies had a deep sense of duty and strong moral convictions, just in a different way than their parents' generation.

...like at the great hippy peace conference in Amsterdam, on the Dame square, when hippies started fighting the police...

Even the greatest idealists fail sometimes. That doesn't mean their ideals are wrong.

I wouldn't look up the hippy movement as an expression of great idealism, frankly.

The believer has truth revealed in the Bible, God's Word.

Secular feelings are rather a distinct set of ideas.

The whole San Francisco hippie movement is just outstanding to me. Look at all the teenage runaway's that got swept into that whole scene. Jim Jones, Timothy Leary and Manson are just a few names that come to mind. And why was sex so "free" back then? Oh yeah, "If it feels good, it can't be wrong". All the dope, sex and immoral behavior can't be overlooked.

Aardvark, did you think your comment would lead to this?....

What I did notice when I cut my hair is how people instantly treated me differently. And we're talking 80's when I cut my hair short. I let it grow long again, but in the early 90's I cut it to where you see it now and it's been about the same since. Amazing how people treat you with a hair cut.

Actually I started the thread, and we don't seem to be talking about hair any more...
