HAPPY EASTER!

Thanks and to you as well,.. but Easter is in two days and today is Good Friday. I'm about to start a thread about it as well. :)

Btw, the egg salad, ham, cheesy potatoes and chocolate were all extremely delicious. :biggrin Oh and I could never eat a lamb no matter how yummy it might taste as they're way too cute. :(

I don't eat any small animal...
lamb
veal
etc.

I eat meat, but it's not my favorite thing.

I love eating meat I just can't stand eating baby animals. The only time I ate veal is when I didn't know where it came from. Now I don't eat it anymore though because just the thought alone breaks my heart. :crying

Actually veal these days is simply beef that hasn't been allowed sufficient iron in its diet so that it remains white and is literally anemic. It's very well fed...but just no iron. It goes to the feed lots like any other cattle will but with a different feed mix than the others get.

Spring lamb is yearlings...as close to maturity as possible...it isn't really any smaller than mutton sheep but at the year mark of its life certain connective tissue and bones join.

Its allowed pasture and hay feed until time for the feed lot...and these days American lamb gets more time on feedlots than anyone else in the world. Its actually better than New Zealand lamb which used to be the best. Now its American lamb that is the best.

I've eaten both side by side...both are great but American lamb is better with better flavor...however American lamb is usually about 1\3 more in price. And this stuff is expensive to begin with.
MPO...
If cooking a leg or shoulder I'd use NZ lamb...where the seasonings can overpower the off flavors...but if doing T-bone or rack chops I want American lamb every time.

Really? I thought it came from calves though. :/

Well if they're close to maturity then that's different. I was picturing tiny lambs. Where on earth do you purchase it anyways? I never saw it in the grocery store before.

It's all available in various grocery stores and butcher shops...you can purchase it online and have it overnight-ed to you.

Okay, but what about my other question? I thought that all veal came from calves? :/

They are also yearlings... possibly older. They grow them as large as they can without giving them any iron in their diets. An expensive process so the meat is expensive but it isn't a baby by a long shot.

Veal is a little lamb.
JohnDB eats them so he doesn't think like we do.
The very fact that they're not given iron is pretty disgusting to me.
What about suckling pig....that's a baby pig that is still taking milk from the mother and is very tender.

Just follow your own instincts and don't eat baby animals.
