Bible Study How Did Circumcision Create A Covenant With God?

Ummm...as I stated above, a long time ago in a land far far away.
It was about Jesus coming to die on the cross.
He has come, and He died, and He arose from the grave.

He is coming again, but there is no covenant sign given about it that is an outward sign like circumcision was.

It's been a common practice for over 4,000 years.
If it was a big risk or bad thing to do to babies it would have been stopped long long ago.

Good point, but not necessarily. Just look how harmful declawing cats is,.. or even worse,.. abortion. Two big problems in the world today that still occur. Just saying.

baptism was always and still is a part of judaism - circumcision is different

baptism is for cleansing - spiritual and physical

circumcision is a sign of the covenant

john the baptist was a jew - he was baptized jews for repentance - jews did that kind of thing all the time for repentance and cleansing - still do today

Yeah but number one I'm not a Jew, number two, does that mean all Christians do that and it's still a requirement, and number three I never said that I will or won't circumsize my son since he doesn't even exist yet. There are 613 Levtical laws, but not all those laws are from God as man added many laws of their own within them.

First I am not telling anyone how to parent. Second of all circumcision is part of the obedience of God's commands to the Jew first and then all Gentiles that are graphed into the branch. What I gave in those scriptures I posted shows that the laws have never changed nor are they done away with.

#17 of the Mosaic laws commanded by God: To circumcise the male offspring (Gen. 17:12; Lev. 12:3)

Those other scriptures I gave shows that nothing has been fulfilled yet other than Christ fulfilling the sacrifial law so we are no longer under the curse of the law. Jesus didn't come to free us from the law as He came to free us from sin. The obedience to the laws never enslaved us, but to bring us into obedience to God's commands.

Water baptism is an outward appearance to others that you have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior and will be obedient to God's commands. Water baptism is a symbol of being washed clean through the blood of Jesus who washes us of our sins.

every time paul said DON'T do this or that law he said don't do it for righteousness sake - that means don't keep God's laws to be righteous/right with God/go to heaven

no one can earn their way to heaven by keeping God's laws

heaven/salvation/eternal life is a gift of God to all who believe and receive God's grace

keeping God's laws is between you and God - no one else - i guess i missed the feud - did something i said seem like i was feuding with you?

No you didn't. You finally gave me what I've been asking for_his_glory to do is show scriptures that support your claim. I've tagged her a few times asking her this and she never responded so I just assumed that it meant she was either upset with me, or upset with me since she didn't know how to respond, or both. :/

Just to let you know there's no point with me in quoting verses without explaining them otherwise I don't understand as my reading comprehension isn't so good I'm afraid. :neutral Anyways the verse I quoted said that we are no under the old law, yours made it seem like we were so which is it? He told abraham to do it and pass it on to his descendants for them to do it as a sign of an eternal covenant with God

Well in that case it's sort of like wearing a cross necklace then as it's more of a symbol or a sign than anything else. I don't believe it to be a commandment like obeying your parents and telling the truth. I believe baptism shows pretty much the same thing so,.. yeah. Just my beliefs.

I did explain in post #2, 5 and 12. All those scriptures includes the law of circumcision found under #17 of the 613 Mosaic laws commanded by God: To circumcise the male offspring (Gen. 17:12; Lev. 12:3). Just as God's word is the same yesterday, today and forever, so are His commandments until all things are fulfilled through Christ.

Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Now put this with what Jesus said in Matthew 5:17, 18.

Heaven and earth has not passed away yet nor has the commands of God as not all has been fulfilled yet through Christ.

Exactly as this is why we are sharing the scriptures with you on what God has already said about being obedient to all His commands. It's totally up to you if you circumcise or not.

I also would like to add here that since I am still living underneath my parents' roof that I'm still very obedient to them. I just meant that although I ask questions and take advice on here sometimes, that I don't mind people on here.

I personally do not believe we are held to the circumcision covenant anymore. It did have a lot of Biblical important starting with Abraham that was already mentioned. I feel this is in line by the old laws. Some parts of the Bible deal with this controversy between the old and new laws/covenants revolving around circumcision like Acts 15 and Galatians 2.

The debate today is still real. Personally, I think the supposed hygenic aspects are not worth the risk and do not encourage it. I am also rather disturbed with how circumcision is also done in hospitals these days - usually right after birth instead of waiting a few days until Vitamin K levels are highest to encourage blood clotting. This does not seem to be in the best interest of an infant to be done on day one. If an adult man wants to be circumized by his own choice then that is his own decision and I have no issue with that.

Here is also another useful verse to examine regarding the issue:
