I dont get it. How is there a difference between flesh and mind when the mind controls the flesh?.

Paul says he serves Gods law through the mind but sin in the flesh.

Maybe i get it.

Or does the flesh just mean the law of works?.

Like he serves God in the Spirit because he knows the law of works cannot save him and brings sin even they are good?.

Romans 4:15

The more laws you know the more sin you know.

I moved this thread to Biblical Growth.

Let’s please address the post and not the person.

[/ACMP]

Growth in grace and knowledge followed, but daily prayer time set aside for Him helped foster good habits. Like avoiding the places that served only my now dead "flesh".

Amen.

Good spiritual habits that are inspired by the Spirit, are how we win the battle of the flesh.

And carrying my bible nearly everywhere, especially when I went to fast food places for breakfast, lunch, or supper.

Why are you continuing to eat if your flesh is literally dead?

Im sure i was addressing the post about living without sin having a peaceful discussion and learning . Unless the freindly reminder ( thanks for being friendly :) ) was not directed at me. Ok maybe a little off topic talking about Paul and the Law and sin but i got adhd.

You seem to have a very tender spirit in the Lord also - Praise be to God for your kindness and loving personality.

God, in the very beginning, knew we would all struggle with sin as Christians, as we all do.
So, in his loving-kindness, he separated the idea of living in sin as a way of life, and sinning periodically, and in our grief and failure, we come to Him and ask for forgiveness, and repent of that sin as many times as we need to, until we are freed from that sin. God is a kind and loving Creator, and knew our entire lives in His OMNISCIENCE, and all the sins we would ever do.
What's really beautiful is that God knows our heart, and the condition we were in when we sinned, and when we came to Him in our heartbroken grief of failure.

You kiwidan need to study this out for yourself, and not just allow yourself to be led around by every wind of doctrine that comes your way.
God's word will speak the truth to you through the power and wisdom of the Holy Spirit.
You asked me what I thought and wanted an answer.

It doesn't matter my belief on this matter. I'm here to tell you to find the truth for yourself, to find the truth that God brings to you, as we are commanded to study and grow in His word. get the truth from God and not these pretenders that want to look good and then lead people astray.

Ephesians 4:14 says, …13 "when we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God, then we will mature to the full measure of the stature of Christ. 14Then we will no longer be infants, tossed about by the waves and carried around by every wind of teaching and by the clever cunning of men in their deceitful scheming. 15Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Christ Himself, who is the head."

i believe scripture should be used to walk closely and deeply with God in a way that pleases Him

i am so disappointed by all the foolish fights and personal attacks slung at people that happens when people go all theological mode instead of practical application mode

:salute

Strong Words of God about rebuking and calling people out for their HERESY.

  • God rebukes the serpent, Eve, and Adam (Genesis 3:14-19).
  • God rebukes Cain (Genesis 4:6-15).
  • God rebukes Moses for striking a rock with his staff instead of speaking to the rock as God had commanded him (Numbers 20:7-13 esp v12). This is among the shortest and most severe rebukes in the Old Testament.
  • God rebukes Balaam, speaking to him through the mouth of Balaam’s donkey (Numbers 22:21-34).
  • Samuel rebukes King Saul about his unlawful sacrifice (1Samuel 13:9-14).
  • Nathan rebukes King David with a parable (2Samuel 12:1-12).
  • Ezra rebukes the men of Judah and Jerusalem regarding marriages to idolatrous women (Ezra 10:9-12).
  • Through Isaiah, God rebukes his people likening Jerusalem to Sodom and Gomorrah (Isaiah 1:2-17).
  • The LORD likens the effect of Israel’s transgressions to being sold into slavery or the divorce of a mother or a terrible drought (Isaiah 50:1-3).
  • The LORD rebukes Israel through Jeremiah (eg Jeremiah 2:9-22).
  • The LORD rebukes Israel through Hosea (eg Hosea 4:1-10).
  • A gentle rebuke to those who don't listen to rebuke: "It is better to heed the rebuke of a wise person than to listen to the song of fools." (Ecclesiastes 7:5).
  • John the Baptizer rebukes Herod (Luke 3:16-20 esp v19).
  • Jesus rebukes the Pharisees (Matthew 23:29-31).
  • Jesus rebukes Peter (Matthew 16:23).
  • Peter rebukes the Jews regarding the death of Jesus (Acts 2:22-23).
  • Stephen rebukes the Sanhedrin —the Jewish religious establishment (Acts 7:51-53).
  • Peter rebukes Simon the wizard (Acts 8:20-23).
  • Paul rebukes Elymas the magician (Acts 13:8-11).

  • Jesus rebukes the congregation of Laodicea (Revelation 3:14-19).
  • Jesus will rebuke the "goats" at his second coming (Matthew 25:31-33,41-46).

Your desire is right, but also shows naivety. As you will not, lie all those who believe as you do, that 1 john1 8+9 somehow splits and talks to two groups.
John is talking to Christians telling them that Christians decieve themselves if they say they do not sin.

We always need our saviour, we can never boast about being sinless for that is neve true.
Let's look at 1 John 1: 6..."If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:"
Is that about Christians who walk in the light and do have fellowship with God?

Crediting Jesus with victory is not boasting, but recognition for His victory over sin, the world, and the flesh.
If we were still servants of sin after Jesus' resurrection, His death accomplished nothing.
The truth freed me from service to sin. (John 8:32-34)

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:8
Is verse 7 a lie?
It says those walking in the light have had ALL their sins washed away by the blood of Christ.
Is verse 9 a lie?
It says we can be cleansed of ALL unrighteousness.
Why can't we say so?

If we can live without sin, what do we need Jesus for? I expect anyone that believes they are purely righteous and live without sin will experience a rude awakening on the last day when we stand before the Throne of Glory.
We need Jesus so we can both initially reconnect with God and to keep us in contact with God.
It is called walking in the light.

Romans 7:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
Romans 7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
Romans 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
Answered in Rom 8:2..."For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."
Paul's present time refuge from Paul's past lament.
Romans 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Answered in Rom 6:6..."Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin."
Paul's present time answer to a past lament.
Romans 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.
You have forgotten that in Rom 7:5 Paul says "when we were in the flesh", making us aware that any future reference to it later is from his past.
There is a difference between the inner man that is Spiritually renewed, but yet the outside is still flesh where sin dwells. Sanctification flows from justification. It's an on-going process which will not be complete or reach perfection in this life as the process is God's workmanship that is created in Christ unto good works.
You mean Jesus blood only washed the sin from the out side of us?
Personally, I was completely cleansed of my past sins by the atoning, sanctifying blood of Christ.
Thanks be to God.
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
James 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
Gal 2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. (read Galatians 2:15-21 for the full context)
I too am glad I am free from the works of the Mosaic Law for salvation.
Thankfully, I have been justified, inside and out...which would be contrary to your previous POV.

thank you
very inspiring
so would you say focusing on what God said about you and keeping grateful fellowship with Him and His word are what continues to keep you strong in Him and His deep and amazing work in your life?
I don't think I mentioned anything about something God said about me, except through His word.
But staying focused on Him in every situation is helpful.
He is to be thanked for everything...even green-lights at intersections.
and avoiding fleshly activities and places keep you out of the path of temptation?
That is so crucial.
When I lived in San Diego, Ca. I couldn't, wouldn't, even drive by the beaches after my conversion.

walking in the presence of God for sure is the only way to walk pure

walking in one's own understanding is a fleshly endeavor

i find when i spend many hours in prayer and in God's word and asking Him what He has to say to me today it keeps me in Him and doing what pleases Him

when i hang around negative combative unkind people who say hurtful things to others they disagree with it only opens a door to enter the flesh as these negative ones are in the flesh

i find that once i realize someone is unkind and unfriendly if i no longer open myself to what they have to say i can stay in peace and love and leave them and their unkindness to God

thank you for sharing your testimony

you are a blessing
God will supply the needs of those who want to stay close to Him, thanks be to God.

cool
thank you for listing all the things they taught you to do to follow suit
there is a lot there
if you feel to expound on anything that would be cool but the list you gave makes perfect sense

walking that kind of a life empowers Godliness and demolishes sinfulness
i guess until someone actually puts it into practice as you did they will never know how powerful the points you made are
Amen to that.
Another thing that really helped was that the folks of the church showed me how they rejected evil and kept to the good in their home lives, family relations, work ethics, self-control, and by their comportment under the duress of visiting other "churches" with the good news.
They really set a good example.
i can confirm that the type of lifestyle you described is effective in walking in holiness and not indulging sin otherwise this would never have been said 1 Corinthians 15:34
That is one of a list of scriptures that affirm. at least to me, that it IS possible to live without sin.
Another favorite in 1 Peter 4:1..."Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;"
I suffered with Christ when I was water baptized into Christ and into His death. (Rom 6:3-7)

The Pharisees were proud of how well they kept the law but what did Jesus say to them?
Now it happened, as He was dining in Levi’s house, that many tax collectors and sinners also sat together with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many, and they followed Him. And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, “How is it that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?” When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
Mark 2:15-17 NKJV
I was the sinner, and came to a real, permanent, repentance from sin...thanks be to God.
Jesus also shared this parable.
Also He spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other men—extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Luke 18:9-14 NKJV
What was the result of the tax collector?
He recognized his error and hopefully changed his ways.
The Pharisee didn't see a need for change.
Which are you?
Please note. I'm not claiming that Hopeful is lying or boasting. Just giving fair warning as Paul did here.
For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
Romans 12:3 NKJV
Because John also warns us here.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.'
1 John 1:8 NKJV
Don't forget 1 John 1:7..."But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."
All sin.
Walk in the light, and there will be no room for darkness.

Me either.
I think it's much worse.
I think he has allowed an evil teaching to enter his thinking, and evil spirit perhaps from Satan for he continually resists the truth of Gods word and the Spirit of God, and he is affecting others thinking to follow and agree with His evil and this should be stopped and not be allowed to continue before others who follow behind the scenes start believing His abomination of teaching. He twists God's word and so far no one does nothing.
The ADMINISTRATORS here must discuss this and "DO SOMETHING."
His words are an "OUTRAGE" in the face of GOD!!!

Seasoned by Grace
Do you really think obeying God is evil?

I dont get it. How is there a difference between flesh and mind when the mind controls the flesh?.
Paul says he serves Gods law through the mind but sin in the flesh.
He has already said he was not in the flesh anymore in Rom 7:5.
He is differentiating between how he once was and how he is post-conversion.
When he was in the flesh he served sin.
But not being in the flesh anymore, was able to serve God.
Maybe i get it.

Or does the flesh just mean the law of works?.

Like he serves God in the Spirit because he knows the law of works cannot save him and brings sin even they are good?.

Romans 4:15

The more laws you know the more sin you know.

Why are you continuing to eat if your flesh is literally dead?
So I don't fall on my face from hunger.
My body needs food, as it was quickened by the Holy Spirit, (Rom 8:11), after its death, burial, and resurrection with Christ. (Rom 6:4)
