1 Corinthians 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

I read only one drink.

Remember this promise from Jesus Christ?

Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

So how will this promise come about?

John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

Answer; at our salvation.

That means there is no need for a continual filling of the Spirit, because we are filled so that we have that testimony that we do not hunger nor thirst any more since we have been saved by faith in Jesus Christ.

That verse is not talking about how many times a believer may be filled with the Holy Spirit. You are attempting to make it say something foreign to its purpose. That is EISEgesis not EXEgesis. You have inserted meaning into a verse where it does not belong.

A better source is; Eph 5:18 (RSV) And be not drunken with wine, wherein is riot, but be filled with the Spirit; The tense of the Greek word; "be filled" (πληροῦσθε), conveys a meaning of continuous or repeated filling. (As does the Greek word for "be...drunken." [μεθύσκεσθε])

CD,
Here you go again with the OSAS fight that helps noone but the Devil, don't do this.

I believe, please, help me with my unbelief...
What exactly don't you believe? If I remember correctly, you do believe the Gospel and the Bible.

With reference to the OP, we need to distinguish between several distinct things (1) the baptism with the Holy Ghost, which is the gift of the Holy Spirit (given by Christ) (2) the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, (3) the baptism by the Holy Spirit, (4) the sealing by the Holy Spirit, and (5) the filling of the Holy Spirit.

When Scripture says (above 1 Cor 12:13), that we are *baptized* into one Body by the Spirit (which is also stated as *drinking into one Spirit*), we need to understand that baptism literally means immersion. But this is a metaphorical immersion. So how are we *immersed* into the Body of Christ?

When the Holy Spirit comes to indwell the believer, He connects the believer supernaturally to Christ through the New Birth, and since Christ is the Head of His Body (which is the Church) we are automatically connected to the rest of the Body. Thus we all become *members* of that Body, and no member is more important or less important than the other. That is the teaching of 1 Corinthians 12, and the metaphor of the human body is used throughout.

At the same time there are about twenty spiritual gifts for the *edification* (or building up or spiritually strengthening) of that Body, therefore each member of the Body receives at least one spiritual gift (the greatest being love). These gifts are to be exercised within the local assembly, but frequently all the members of the local church do not exercise their spiritual gifts, therefore the local body suffers.

We are only filled once at the time of our salvation through confession and regeneration as we are sealed by the Holy Spirit of God unto the day of redemption that we should never give cause to grieve the Holy Spirit of God that dwells in us 2Corinthians 1:22; Ephesians 4:30; Romans 8:9. The only way to lose that filling is by blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 12:31,32, but if you are truly walking in the Spirit that would not happen no matter what trials or tribulations that come before you, Galatians 5:25.

Mark 9:24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

Frankly, none of us are perfect. We may feel powerful and emboldened at times, but as Solomon says, "There is a time for everything".

We hit deep dark valleys, and we reach the highest mountaintops. If a persons faith has never wavered, they've simply never been tested hard enough. If this be the case, then they ought to count themselves blessed.

Often, I hear the conversations that Job had with his friends. Everyone giving advice and grandstanding with their grandiose knowledge of God, but very few actually taking the time to listen, and give the comfort that's needed.

Interestingly, their conclusion was that either Job didn't have enough faith or there was sin in his life. (Job 15:1ff & 22:1ff & 33:12ff)
Edited out unproductive remark. Mike

I agree.... unproductive remark and all.

Thank you.
I thought the "unproductive remark" provided an example of how the same notions still circulate today.
Oh well...............
I concurred

I'm curious, why do you think religious folk act that way? I'm not discounting their willingness to try and help, or genuine concern.

I think it is the outcome of what they have been taught.
You can see the variety of views here in this Christian forum. They all reflect denominational views which have been sincerely taught from pulpits and at Bible studies.

So, I try to go back to the time before denominations and to the 7 great ecumenical councils.. Although, we might consider the party of the Pharisees [Acts 15:5] might be considered a "denomination" that required Gentiles be circumcised and keep the Law of Moses. But Paul dealt with them effectively in his letter to the Galatians so, we reject that teaching. (Well, MOST of us do.)

That is a very good view. One I had not pondered.
Thank you for sharing.
