How to Find False Prophets Using Scripture

A false prophet to me is one who does not teach/preach on how to obtain salvation in this lifetime and eternal life after death with the scriptures that have been give to us but still preaches Jesus. What is a false prophet to you? These are just a few scriptures that the Holy Spirit has drawn me into, in order by Gospel..

Salvation
John 3:3
John 4:24
John 14:16
Romans 10:9
Ephesians 2:8

Eternal Life
Psalms 23:6
John 11:25-26
1 Corinthians 15:54
Philippians 3:20-21

He is Speaking to Everyone!
Matthew 7:7 - Ask, Seek, Knock!
John 3:16 - That whoever believes in Him!
Acts 2:21 - Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord!
Acts 2:47 - Having Favor with All the People!

Matthew 11:30 - We all have a choice, do not be afraid to knock on His door!
2 Corinthians 5:7 - Praise be to God the Father of Spirit and Flesh!

False prophets will always use scripture, but will twist it, add to it and take away from it and the only way to know they are false prophets is to take what they preach in scripture and read it for yourself so the Holy Spirit can help you learn to discern truth from error, 1John 4:1-8; 1John 2:20-29 by studying the scriptures for yourself.

Not really complicated...

Deu 13:1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
Deu 13:2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
Deu 13:3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
Deu 13:4 Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.

Isa 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
Isa 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

I've come to learn that many times when one asks a false teacher for scripture to back what they say that does not sound right, they say things like well the Holy Spirit guides me so that you can not prove it.

A true prophet allows the Holy Spirit to guide them into all scripture, and they leave it to God to convict their hearts. It's the false prophet who is blind and cannot discern truth. We need to pray for them.

Soo true, I noticed you mentioned the Holy Spirit in your statement here, very good! False prophets need to stop making excuses for their sin and start believing in Salvation through the Living God. Romans 10:9

John 8;32,, what do you think about Romans 10:9, how would you obtain salvation in your own words?

Do you want to find a false prophet out? Do these comparisons:

1) What does this teacher say about Jesus? In Matthew 16:15-16, Jesus asks, “Who do you say I am?” Peter answers, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God,” and for this answer Peter is called “blessed.” In 2 John 9, we read, “Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.” In other words, Jesus Christ and His work of redemption is of utmost importance; beware of anyone who denies that Jesus is equal with God, who downplays Jesus’ sacrificial death, or who rejects Jesus’ humanity. First John 2:22 says, “Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist—he denies the Father and the Son.”

2) Does this teacher preach the gospel? The gospel is defined as the good news concerning Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). As nice as they sound, the statements “God loves you,” “God wants us to feed the hungry,” and “God wants you to be wealthy” are not the complete message of the gospel. As Paul warns in Galatians 1:7, “Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.” No one, not even a great preacher, has the right to change the message that God gave us. “If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!” (Galatians 1:9).

3) Does this teacher exhibit character qualities that glorify the Lord? Speaking of false teachers, Jude 11 says, “They have taken the way of Cain; they have rushed for profit into Balaam’s error; they have been destroyed in Korah’s rebellion.” In other words, a false teacher can be known by his pride (Cain’s rejection of God’s plan), greed (Balaam’s prophesying for money), and rebellion (Korah’s promotion of himself over Moses). Jesus said to beware of such people and that we would know them by their fruits (Matthew 7:15-20).

The reality is, false prophets seldom mention salvation or Christ. They want to take the focus off of our only method of salvation, usually attempting to convince us that works save. They will quote the Bible with the best of 'em, but they will not apply it to their teaching, nor will they give glory to God, only lip service.

I will add a 4th to your list: What does he answer when asked "What must I do to be saved?"

I've come to learn that many times when one asks a false teacher for scripture to back what they say that does not sound right, they say things like well the Holy Spirit guides me so that you can not prove it. God may deal with different people in different ways, but it all must line up with the scriptures teachings or it is false. God does not change for different people.

True God's NATURE does not change. However, how He works with individual people can be very different. God knows us inside an out. All people must first get a revelation from the Holy Spirit in order to be saved. After that.....the Holy Spirit can reveal to them further Truths in the scriptures. As we die to self in whatever areas that needs to happen we can receive Truth. In fact, He can reveal a Truth that makes us realize that there is a area that we need to die in. For example He may show us that we are arrogant or a hypocrite in some area so we will repent (change our mind) and with a renewed mind we become conformed to Him in this area, die to self.

Very well said Deborah, God knows us all as Individuals, but before they receive Revelation from the Holy Spirit, they need to confess and believe first in their own words..

My Own Confession of Salvation is Love, Mercy, Peace! :pray

Follow Romans 10:9 – Using Your Own Words, Confess with your Mouth and Believe in Your Heart that Jesus is God in the Flesh.
Steps to Salvation - Come as you are, in your own words..

Step 1: Put down the Bible.

Step 2: Find a quiet place to sit with God and humble yourself, a place that you feel comfortable in. Take your time with Him.

Step 3: Talk to Him and be honest and sincere, for He knows your heart. Tell Him you need His help and that you cannot continue on the path you're on. Confess with your mouth and repeat after me in your own words with sincerity, "God, I know I've been running from you, but I don't want to run anymore. Jesus, I know now that you are God, and I am sorry for all my sins Lord. Please come and be with me Lord, I need you now more than ever. Please have mercy on me Lord. Now believe in your heart with sincerity and say, I Love You God, Amen.

Step 4: Believe that He will come, be patient. When you feel God's Love slowly pour into you, you will know it is Him. When you feel His love, just thank Him continuously. Thanking Him was all I could do when He came to me. Thank you Lord. Thank You.

Step 5: Your walk with Jesus has now begun. Now pick up the Bible and walk with Him, for you are now a new born baby in Christ and are no longer part of religious doctrines. God’s Holy Spirit and His Word/Jesus now dwell inside of your body, mind and soul. You are now sealed inside the Body of Christ until the Day of Redemption.

Belief and Faith are synonyms of each other before Salvation, but only after Salvation does Believing and Faith turn to the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. Jesus reveals himself as God of Spirit to the ones who truly believe he is God. Salvation 1st - Bible 2nd

It's found in Romans 10:9 - Confessing and believing comes through in our own words, but we are confessing and believing on the same Revelation, that Jesus is God in the Flesh. That's why a person must believe and confess through Romans 10:9 - Are we not aloud to speak to God in our own words? God loves us, he wants us to come as we are! Sinners!

Great Thread and job folks.

When I think false prophet I always go to this passage. If no one has mentioned it look at their followers too.

2 Timothy 3

New International Version (NIV)

3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over gullible women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires,7 always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. 8 Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these teachers oppose the truth. They are men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. 9 But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone.

10 You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, 11 persecutions, sufferings—what kinds of things happened to me in Antioch, Iconium and Lystra, the persecutions I endured. Yet the Lord rescued me from all of them. 12 In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, 13 while evildoers and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.

14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

My BF and I were discussing the fact we believe we are going to see Chrisitan persecuation in this nation before the end of our lifetime.
Look at God's instruction to us. Vs 14-17

He is telling us to know our scripture!

So when you evangelize, you tell your audience that sin is not a problem since God loves us and all that "He wants is that you come as you are, confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Rom. 10:9). Is that the way you evangelize or am I missing something?

Hi Agape. No, sin is the problem!!! Sin is the reason we need Salvation! I want the sinner to know that God is Love, Mercy, Peace through Salvation! They don't understand who God is yet. True prophets need to preach His Love, Mercy and Peace so people stop sinning!!

I believe that it is even simpler than this. Acts 16:31 If a person believes that verse God will save that person. That is Grace.

In the scripture we are never told to ask Jesus to come to us, we are told to come to Him and believe.
“Whosoever believes in me will not perish, but have everlasting life.†Jn 3:15

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him will not perish, but have everlasting life.†Jn 3:16

“He that believes on him is not condemned, but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.†Jn 3:18

“He that believes the Son has everlasting life, and he that believes not the Son, shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.†Jn 3:36

“And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one that which sees the Son, and believes on him, will have everlasting life, and I will raise him up on the last day.â€Jn 6:40

“Truly I say unto you, he that believes on me, has everlasting life.†Jn 6:47

.

So right now, you have an important decision to make! You can either, believe in Christ, (faith) or you can reject him. The decision is yours. You can tell God the Father, (in your own thoughts) that you are believing in his Son, and that will be the moment of eternal life for you.

Paul was writing to the church in Rome, they were already Christians were they not?
