Jena, situated in the beautifull yet underpopulated state of Thuringia. That's pretty much in the geographical middle of the country. You know Weimar? Jena is a 20 min car ride east of Weimar.
Berlin is pretty awesome. It's like a world of its own, I'd get lost there!
Bielefeld doesn't really exist, it's only a conspiracy. You're obviously part of it, you can't be trusted any more. ;)
The Weimar Republic thing was actually a nice attempt at democracy, just at the wrong time and a tad too lenient (thus the unhappy ending). So it's good it didn't snow too much in those days.Claudya: Maybe if it had snowed more in 1919 in Weimar, Ebert and crowd wouldn't have done the Weimar Republic thing...

...it got rather chilly after 1933.
farouk, that is not too far off the mark where I grew up in the midwest. Usually, toward the end of the winter when the temps would start getting into the high 50's/low 60's people would start going outside with shorts on and without jackets. Then there is my brother-in-law who has been known to shovel his driveway wearing shorts. I swear he must be completely numb from the waist down.
Actually, it happens a lot earlier than that. You can bet when we start getting those calm, sunny spring days in the mid-30's you can find us dressed that way.
Yesterday was my birthday and every year I take that day off from work to go ice fishing. Yesterday was no different, even in the fact that the fish didn't cooperate. :D
Anyway, while sitting in my portable fish house it occurred to me that a year ago I was outside on the ice in nothing more than a long-sleeved flannel shirt because it was a calm, sunny day in the mid-40's. Yesterday it was about 10 degrees and windy. Quite a bit different.
Snowing now, with wind picking up. State of emergency to be announced soon to get vehicles off the roads. With more than 24 inches of snow and heavy winds and single digit temperatures forecast, the plows have to work constantly, can't wait until the snow stops and then try to remove it all at one.
WIP: Congrats! but you chose a cold time of the year to have a birthday...

You're right! I should move it. ;)
