How's your weather today, where you live?

Which part of Germany? Used to live in Bielefeld and Berlin, would love to go back to Berlin :)

Jena, situated in the beautifull yet underpopulated state of Thuringia. That's pretty much in the geographical middle of the country. You know Weimar? Jena is a 20 min car ride east of Weimar.

Berlin is pretty awesome. It's like a world of its own, I'd get lost there! :lol

Bielefeld doesn't really exist, it's only a conspiracy. You're obviously part of it, you can't be trusted any more. ;)

Claudya: Maybe if it had snowed more in 1919 in Weimar, Ebert and crowd wouldn't have done the Weimar Republic thing...

The Weimar Republic thing was actually a nice attempt at democracy, just at the wrong time and a tad too lenient (thus the unhappy ending). So it's good it didn't snow too much in those days. :)

...it got rather chilly after 1933.

True. :sad The Weimar republic didn't cause the existence of national socialism though. It was a liberal democracy, far away from any kind of fascism. But some of the reasons why the Nazis could thrive and obtain power are due to the Weimar republic constitution.

Kind of interesting how something as trivial as the weather keeps getting us to talk about serious stuff. :yes

farouk, that is not too far off the mark where I grew up in the midwest. Usually, toward the end of the winter when the temps would start getting into the high 50's/low 60's people would start going outside with shorts on and without jackets. Then there is my brother-in-law who has been known to shovel his driveway wearing shorts. I swear he must be completely numb from the waist down.

Actually, it happens a lot earlier than that. You can bet when we start getting those calm, sunny spring days in the mid-30's you can find us dressed that way.

Yesterday was my birthday and every year I take that day off from work to go ice fishing. Yesterday was no different, even in the fact that the fish didn't cooperate. :D

Anyway, while sitting in my portable fish house it occurred to me that a year ago I was outside on the ice in nothing more than a long-sleeved flannel shirt because it was a calm, sunny day in the mid-40's. Yesterday it was about 10 degrees and windy. Quite a bit different.

WIP: Congrats! but you chose a cold time of the year to have a birthday...

Snowing now, with wind picking up. State of emergency to be announced soon to get vehicles off the roads. With more than 24 inches of snow and heavy winds and single digit temperatures forecast, the plows have to work constantly, can't wait until the snow stops and then try to remove it all at one.

Wow, state of emergency in CT...

You're right! I should move it. ;)

The Queen certain has done so. Birthdate in April, official birthday in Canada, in May. Official birthday in England in June. Different Australian states celebrate her birthday at different times, etc.

Not sure it has so much to do with the weather, mind; I've never asked.

HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH/AP) -- Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has declared a state of emergency and deployed National Guard troops around the state to help with any rescues and other emergencies during a potentially historic winter storm.

Malloy also warned motorists early Friday afternoon that state highways could be subject to closure at any time and urged residents to stay home and off the roads.

The governor says Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating are now projecting that 30 percent of utility customers in the state could lose power during the storm. The utilities have all of their crews on standby and have called in out-of-state workers.

"People need to take this storm seriously. If current predictions are accurate, we will need people to stay off the roads so that emergency personnel and utility crews can get to the places they need to get to, and to make sure that our plows can keep critical roadways clear," Governor Malloy said. "Please stay home once the weather gets bad except in the case of real emergency."
