I have a phobia. Help please?

Hello everyone. I have a melophobic fear. 8 years ago, I was playing a video game on my Nintendo 64. I was playing in a level that took place in a dark underground place. The place looked really disturbing according to its sickly green bricks and blood and skulls on the floor. But, the worst part was the very eerie music that was playing. It was very bizarre according to the scary chants. It scared me to death. Ever since that, I still played the game, but I never went to that part of the game anymore due to how appalling and disturbing it was. I never played it since 2006. But, it is still in my mind, I get nightmares and I get panicky from this. I pray for it to go away and it never does. Does God care about what's happening? I don't want this phobia to interfere with my life anymore. What should I do to not even acknowledge it?

Melophobia. I looked it up and it says a fear of music. Is that what you are stating?

Have you repented for playing that video came you probably shouldn't have been playing in the first place?

The best way to get rid of a phobia, is to confront it.

You are older now and can reason the situation better. Replay the game level and use your current position to reevaluate your fear.

The mind tends to exaggerate memories over time. So replaying the level now might actually make you laugh at what once scared you. ;)

I see what you're saying. It has more to do with the phobia then it does with the game.

God cares very much! He doesn't want you to live in fear. He wants to heal you of your phobia. It's more than just a fear of creepy music.

Ask the Lord to remove those memories from you. There needs to be a deeper healing. Ask the Lord to remove this fear from you, He will do it! Ask the Lord to show you were it began also and then begin to quote Scripture:

2 Timothy 1:17
English Standard Version (©2001)
for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Hope that helps! Don't forget:

John 8:36
International Standard Version (©2008)
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!"

This seems like very sound advice. I think we tend to build things up in a range of emotions over time when looking back at our youth. "The good old days" probably weren't as good as we remember, and the things that created paralyzing fear would probably not be as bad as we remember.

The two agnostics in the thread probably won't relate to this, but to the OP, there might be something to think about in the way you were led to stay away from these games. I remember playing DOOM a lot years ago. There was a lot of satanic imagery in that game, and in retrospect, it was not time very well spent. Not a lot of discernment practiced during that period of my life. It might be that if you checked out the game, you'd realize you're over it. And you'd probably be given affirmation that it's nothing you should bother with now.

Exposure yourself to your fear, commonly known as 'Classical conditioning (Pavlovian reinforcement). Just pop on have a peek for a couple of secs if the fear comes back close the game. Then force yourself to do again and again trying to expose yourself longer each time to the advert stimulus each time. I overcame my fear of heights this way

:prayWell overall guys, it's the music that bothers me, not much how the level looks. The music was filled with eerie chanting and then there was a bizarre, yet disturbing sound of an organ(not the pipe organ) but the one you hear in jazz music. It was so bizarre that when I think into the sound of that music now, I grow really sweaty and my heart starts pumping really hard and fast. I tell you, that's an uneasy feeling. By the way, the music was from a Nintendo 64 game from 1998. Not only me was scared, many others. Well, I don't own it anymore, but it still gives me creeps.

Years ago as a very young woman, I watched a movie at a theater that induced fear in a lot of people. That evening I took home a demon with me. It was about 5 years later that I went for help and was delivered of a very strong demon of fear and anger. Demons will attach themselves to us when we have strong emotional responses where we lose control, or traumas in life.

Deliverance comes not from exposing yourself again to the video, but from repentance, and renunciation of it, and asking Holy Spirit to come in and heal the sore place and fill up the weakness with His strength.

Wow, Alabaster, I praise God He set you free. :clap

I can't watch scary movies anymore either. I used to have horrible nightmares and the Lord had to deliver me from the fear they produced in me and the way it made me numb to brutal murder and violence. (I used to be a horror movie junkie) I remember one time at a Redbox I wanted to get a movie I knew I shouldn't see and the Lord said to me, "Don't even think about it!" very clearly. I was like "Yes, Father God :salute" and was so blessed by His love. I think I ended up with a romantic comedy (my ultimate favorite genre!)

It is a glorious and comforting thing to know that we can trust the Father to bring us up short and quickly counsel us, as He did you, in some of our decisions that lead to the same old junk we have had to deal with in our pasts. The memory of that time years ago and the wonderful change that came over me---no more fear of anything, and the absence of anger without cause---lends to the simplicity of choosing to be disciplined about exposing my eyes and mind to some of the dark things that we can see on TV or in movies.

My past experience was ugly, but allowing Jesus to deal with it has given me strength of discipline that has carried me through my life in the area of guarding my eyes and ears. If I have ever slipped up, it doesn't take much but a wee nudge of the Holy Spirit to bring me right back!

I guess i never knew this was a real phobia but i can relate. I get creeped out by sounds more than music though. Have you heard the song "Monster" by skillet? On the unedited version, during the bridge where he normally sings "feel like a monster", it is replaced by the horrible, low, unnatural voice. Honestly, it scares the heck out of me. And something that is a little more strange is my fear of our smoke detector. xD Yeah, laugh if you want. It is pretty funny. Anyway, we have an old smoke detector and it doesnt have the normal high pitched beep that most do. Instead it lets out a loud, buzzing wail. Everytime i here it ive ended up in my bed, curled up in a ball, with my eyes closed, and my ears plugged as hard as i can. The worst part is, i dont have a clue why it scares me. However, i dont have nightmares about either, so mines not extreme like yours. I dont try to avoid "Monster" when it comes on, i just deal with it. Now the smoke detector, im going to have to work in that one. xD
I guess the best way is to remind yourself that it is silly to be afraid of something like music, and pray. And thinking "Oh i really dont want to have a nightmare tonight" probly isnt the best idea, because you will begin to think about the thing you fear.
