I Have the Solution!

"Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray my Cuisinart to keep.
I pray my stocks are on the rise. My broker's investments wise.
That all the wine I sip is white. That my hot tub's watertight.
That racquetball won't get too tough. That all my sushi's fresh enough.
I pray my iphone and ipad still work. That my career won't lose its perks.
My microwave won't radiate. My condo won't depreciate it.
I pray my health club doesn't close. That my money market grows.
If I go broke before I wake. I pray my BMW they won't take."

Is this really what has become of the American Dream? This is far removed from an earlier time when the nation's attention was not so much on its possessions, but the quest to be a civil, just, righteous, freedom-loving, God-fearing, contented, thankful and generous people.

Or they don't have taxable income that has to be reported. Some people don't even file income tax returns.
We're talking about a very small minority here, and of those, most are at or near the poverty line, which is why they don't file -- they can't afford to pay.

People who qualify for Earned Income Credit may get back thousands more than they paid in.
Many of them deserve the credit. Many don't. It's hard to raise kids by yourself. I know. I did. I never claimed the EIC.

Believe it or not my State depends of that influx of EIC money to help keep our economy going.
I understand that. As I said, I'm not willing to take it away.

When we qualified we took it. At that time I did not have a clue what it even was. Our CPA told us we didn't owe any taxes rather would get back a check because we qualified for EIC. We must have been broker than church mouses because I he refused to charge us for filling out our return.

I would do away with EIC. I don't think anyone has the right to another man's earnings. I would also enact an income tax that required all Americans making any sort of money to pay into it. That way when Politician Joe promised to give them something the voter would realize it was not going to be free rather it would cost them money and they would have less to spend on things they may believe is more important than a new ball field across town.

This is some of the hidden costs

The barbershop of the U.S. Senate has run deficits of approximately $350,000
a year for each of the last 15 years. So Senate sergeant at arms Terry Gainer
has decided to try out a new model, one that has looked rather unfashionable
during the Obama era: privatization.
That is 5,250,000. Pay for your own hair cuts

they should. privatatising isn't always cheaper.

reba, If I was air force and a sf I could get out and do the exact same job as a dod policeman and make way more then I do with my twenty years. an e-6 base pay doesn't make 60k a year. yes there is that bah etc but if I live on base I don't get most of that.

Reports of wounded soldiers recovering in mold-ridden rooms at Walter Reed Army Medical Center led to Congressional hearings this year. But those conditions are a far cry from the treatment members of Congress receive when they visit Walter Reed. Lawmakers get a special entrance and basically they get a higher standard of care than veterans who've put their lives on the line," says Pete Sepp with the National Taxpayers Union. When they visit Walter Reed, members of Congress are escorted to Ward 72 in what is called the "golden elevator." The seventh floor ward is decorated with crystal chandeliers, silver tea sets, antique furniture and original artwork. Food is served on fine china. All of the items have been donated.
Members of Congress and their staffs can visit the Capitol's attending physician (who is on the congressional payroll) whenever they want, whether it's for an emergency or a simple, free flu shot. Do you have health insurance? Millions of Americans live without it while members of Congress have just about the best health plans available.
They're the most exclusive gyms in the country, and they're paid for with your tax dollars. One private gym offers services to the 435 members of U.S. Congress, and another facility is restricted to the 100 members of the U.S. Senate.
Members of Congress can park just about anywhere they want in the District and never worry about getting a parking ticket.
Members of Congress can retire earlier than most federal employees. They can retire with a full pension at age 60. Members of Congress can collect their pensions even if they leave office to go directly to jail.
Senators and House members don't ever have to worry about finding a parking space at local airports because they have private lots at both Ronald Reagan Washington National and Dulles International.

Ah, that is the difficulty of the written word. Sometimes it is hard to get where the inflections should be.
