Idealistic Christians who expect appreciation

humble soul

Why don't they love me? Why don't they worship me?
I'm helping the poor. I'm helping the homeless. I'm helping the traumatised. I'm being nice to them. They should be nice to me!!
I'm doing God's work! Where's the appreciation? I deserve validation for my efforts. I didn't sign up for Christianity to suffer! And be abused!

Babies and Children need motivation and appreciation. So do God's spiritual kids. I have come to learn that we are at different stages in our Christian walk with God. The Father relates to individuals at their spiritual level. Where he would tell a matured Christian not to be childish, he would accept such childish attitude from someone who is still very young in the Lord.

I support appreciation of Christians' efforts, especially if they request it. I will pat a child on the head for a job well done, if they look up to me for it.

That's actually a very good point you've made couppy. Thanks

These passages came to mind

Matthew 5:16
King James Version

16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 6:6
King James Version

6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing as your treasures are stored up in heaven.

Mat 6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
Mat 6:2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
Mat 6:4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Earlier on I was thinking of Cain and Abel.
Why did God accept Abel's sacrifice but not Cain's?
The only thing I could think of was that they may have had different motives.
Could it be that Abel truly loved the Lord and wanted to please Him but Cain may have givrn offered his out of duty not love?
Perhaps the best way to do it is to glorify God and be so absorbed with living your life for Him that it doesn't matter what people think. You don't even think of that.

Ok honest question Tessa. Do you sometimes feel underappreciated on here?

i dunno. i've seen ministries burn people. it wasn't all "under-appreciation," a lot of it was...office politics, taken to apocalyptic levels because its a religious organization. -eek-
Maybe you mean missionaries who are pushed too hard by the ones who send them to awful scenarios in poor countries.

Being humble and being inferior are two different things. If you have Christ you are never a loser.
I am not humble. Jesus said only God is good.
That's an interesting post. I don't think I really understand the difference between feeling inferior and being humble.
Shouldn't we feel inferior to God?

I think it was that Abel gave of his first fruits being the best while Cain just gave of his fruit, but not being the best part of it, but just giving God the leftovers.
