If God Exists, Why Is There Evil? By Norman Geisler

I studied it for myself and found that those passages don't speak of Satan and that there is no being in the Bible with the name Lucifer. Such ideas have to be read into those passages. But I don't want to open a can of worms either.
then where did Satan originate at ? he is a fallen angel he knows the Bible better than we do he is our adversary. he is as like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour

I don't understand what that has to do with what I posted.

Are you saying Norman Geisler has the answer to why evil exists?
Neither he, nor anyone else, has that answer.
Quite right. We can speculate about it, as Geisler has done and many do, as long we understand that ultimately the Bible doesn't say.

What did I twist? What did I make something say that isn't there? You do realize that I was replying to someone else, yes?

Well you already opened that can of worms by your statement and you and I have have had our rounds on this as we do not agree so I will close that can and let it up to others to understand its meaning. :)

It was you that opened it by bringing it up. I was just being facetious and trying to point that out by my statement. But, yes, we will leave that closed now and anyone who wants to discuss it can start a thread in Theology.

Satan means adversary in Hebrew and within scripture this fallen angel is known by many names such as Satan, Devil, serpent, Beelzebub, Belial, Abadon, Apollyon to name a few. Satan is the one who introduced evil into the hearts of man as he influenced the evil that is in the world beginning in Genesis 3:1 as he influenced the serpent, Influenced Cain to kill Abel ,Genesis 4; 1 John 3:12, and being the dragon in Rev 12:7-9. Satan will continue to influence others to sin as he spreads evil all over the world until Christ returns and then he will be cast into the lake of fire, Rev 20:7-10

Two theories. They can both be right at the same time.

1). Evil exists because we turned away from God. The world is the way it is because God hasn't fixed it yet after we turned away.

2). this much evil is allowed to exist so that it will never be tried again. Never turn from God again.

If right then these two theories give me hope that one day we will be rid of every kind of evil, and that in that day the no one would ever consider the evils that are common place in the world today.

Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 both describe the fall of Satan (Lucifer) and the pride he had that caused his fall, but getting into this opens a can of worms as many will debate these verses are not speaking about Satan so I do not want to open that can, but to only say study it for yourself.
Study it?
Have I just come to this conclusion?
If you check, you'll find that there is no theologian who can answer the question of evil. It has taken many turns to arrive at this conclusion..

Quite right. We can speculate about it, as Geisler has done and many do, as long we understand that ultimately the Bible doesn't say.
Well, Amen to that!
Seems most people know how evil got here in the first place.
I think it's because they haven't gone all the way to the "beginning..."

Why hasn't He fixed it yet if He's a God of love and He sees us suffering?
Tried again? Like, WHEN? This is it. At the end there won't be any "again".
Only the New Earth. (which God could have created from the beginning).

Ezra, Free was replying to me and I don't see any wording that he twisted.
He's just stating a truth.

You had said that I didn't understand the O.P. and didn't deserve a yes or no answer.
Well, I did understand the O.P. and I was stating that Geisler, nor anyone else, has the answer to evil.

Second try. I hope you understand me this time around.

dirtfarmer here

If Abram became Abraham, Sarai became Sarah, Simon became Cephas, Why is it a mystery that Lucifer would be called Satan.
The meaning of Satan is "the accuser", is that not a fitting name change?

Dirtfarmer,
I don't remember who, but the point being made was that the name Lucifer does not appear anywhere in the bible.

That's just begging the question. "Lucifer" is a title, a Latin title that wasn't translated into English in the KJV. It is not a name and has nothing to do with Satan. But, as stated previously, that is not the subject of this thread. If anyone wants to discuss it, they need to start a thread in the Theology forum, or, better yet, dig up one of the previous ones in there and have a read.

the author at no time stated they had the exact truth .i posted this because it had some good meat in it... i really fail to understand the backlash . its like going to church and hearing a message from the pastor. then nit pick it it to death.. a former pastor once said preaching is like eating chicken you eat the meat and throw the bones a way . know then the debate over Lucifer name even existing exist :confusedi dont believe any person can say they hold absolute truth other than what scriptures has to say but no the author never used the words he holds all truth... that is my point so why should it even be brought up

Isaiah 14:12
“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, who didst weaken the nations!
This doesn't address anything I said. This is the fallacy of begging the question. If you want to discuss this, then please, search the Theology forums as there is more than one thread there that deals with this error. There may be one or two really old ones outside of that forum as well.

Here are just three:
