The gangs have already said there not handing in there guns as they want them for protection, and other violent criminals obviously are not going to hand in there guns or say anything. People can and do manipulate the commodity markets. By flooding the market with gold or buying up gold the value of dollars can go up and down quite violently to where the businesses go bankrupt. Most businesses use short term credit with variable rates (like credit cards with extremely low rates) to function.
That violatility would destroy them overnight.

I'm not sure what is going on with your economy at the moment. (Ain't paid attention) but usually it will stabilize.

The attacks on Saudis is troubling. It can cause great violatility in the energy market.
Just like the resulting war amongst them can.

If only Russia could get their oil to market these things would mean nothing.

Doesn't have to be a gold standard. Anything that keeps the value of the dollar constant will work. Although, gold was held at a constant $20.67 per ounce for 100 years when on the gold standard. It worked. The dollars stayed relatively constant. A dollar bought about the same amount of goods as it did 100 years earlier. Israel used gold and other metals back in the olden days.

People are not supposed to earn a pension when a dollar buys one amount, and then have some banker change the amount their pension can buy when they retire and try to spend their pension. That is not right. Weights and measures are supposed to be constant.

Parents should be careful about allowing their children to swim in warm lakes. Their immune systems are not yet fully developed. The elderly should also be careful, as well as anyone whose immune system is not in tip top shape.

Overcrowding in many hospitals is leading to people like that pregnant woman being sent home too quickly. The American system could use improvement.
