I was a serious, confirmed atheist when I reached out to Jesus for healing while in the hospital. He healed me then and there and I have been a very serious Christian ever since.
Yes, Jaybo....we all have our own very important reason.
Some become saved because of these reasons...
Some become saved because of intellectual reasoning....
there are many reasons,
BUT
God desires that all men be saved.
1 Timothy 2:4
3This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,
4who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

There is no reason why Paul would lie.

Jesus also confirmed this:

John 3:16
16“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

WHOEVER believes in Him...shall have eternal life.
Amen.

Of course - that's what "Conviction" does. I couldn't have been Saved without it. Repentance, on the other hand, is a free will decision. Conviction, of course is the Beginning of Faith. HE made it real when I, of my own free will, surrendered, repented, and cried out to HIM to save me the last time he convicted me.
You gave Cygnus a LIKE in post 419,,,but I think you do NOT agree with him.
He does not believe in free will.

Makes no sense for God to tell Cain to rule over sin when God already know he cannot.

If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

IF is a conditional word meaning it was up to Cain to choose which he will do. IF Cain choose to do well he would be accepted, IF he choose to not do well sin will dominate him.
God is clearly giving Cain a choice of two options and consequence comes with which ever choice Cain makes for himself.

Total depravity gives man an excuse for his sin, makes man a victim of sin rather than making man accountable for the sin man does.
:clap

Bob, I just can't buy into that theology. I can't see God opening the door so to speak and someone rejecting it...based upon what? Based upon someone being convinced Jesus doesn't exist by a clever liar who thinks they're being honest?
I think you've never read Revelation 3:20.
Jesus knocks...
WE must OPEN the door.
That handles your theology....
Revelation 3:20
20‘Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.

God makes the first move...
He reveals Himself to man, as He has from the beginning of time.
Romans 1:19-20
19because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.
20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

It's up to each one of us to REPLY to God and Choose, and we are thus individually RESPONSIBLE for our lost state or our saved state.

We have the power to CHOOSE, as God intended from the beginning.
Deuteronomy 30:19
19“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,

Choosing requires a choice.
A choice implies a decision that has to be made.

WE choose to be saved......
or God is a monster I do not care to serve if it is HE that is doing the choosing.

And do not consider yourself superior to other Christians because you think you are able to accept a God we cannot accept and a God that DOES NOT EXIST.

The death of Christ was necessary because a ransom had to be paid. There are other reasons.

If we are free to choose one might not choose Christ because of the heavy influence of an atheist. In other words the atheist kept the person from receiving eternal life.
A ransom for WHAT?

Who kidnapped us that a ransom is necessary????

A ransom for WHAT?

Who kidnapped us that a ransom is necessary????

You seem to disagree with the thought od ransom...why?
1 Tim 2:6 who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.

Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Why would that make God a monster?
This is why Cygnus:

Because it would mean God created us, His greatest creation, made in HIS IMAGE,
to then send the majority of us to a place called hell THROUGH NO FAULT OF OUR OWN.

Do you believe this is a loving, merciful and just God?

Does the O.T. and the N.T. reveal God to be loving, merciful and just?
He ordered children to be killed in the O.T. Would you care to discuss this?
Did God REALLY order this? Was it what the oracles believed to be the case?
How would one rectify this problem?

Is God a God of love
or not??

Did He create us just to torture the vast majority?

I don't disagree with the idea of a ransom.
I happen to have studied, somewhat, seven atonement theories.

I'm asking YOU why the ransom???
WHO kidnapped us that a ransom would be necessary?

If you reply, we could continue this conversation.

Also, just as an aside, you quoted 1 Timothy 2:6 which states that Jesus gave Himself as a ransom FOR ALL.
ALL.

Now this is NOT universalism because it is limited to those who wish to ACCEPT the ransom.
However, Jesus DID DIE for EVERYONE...just as it says. His death covers the sins of the WHOLE WORLD, that's how great the sacrifice is. It just then depends on a person accepting it.

Where is the lie?

Why would God lie to Cain, telling him he should rule over sin, if Cain was incapable of doing so?

If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” Genesis 4:7

  • but you should rule over it.

God intended for Cain to rule over sin.

You left out one very important fact....Adam fell.

The verse is pretty clear Jesus gave his life as a ransom.

Who says Jesus was kidnapped? In fact that makes no sense.

As to the for all...who was the all? You've studies 7 atonement theories...do you have the answer?
You already said it's not universalism...I agree. This means it must be a group of people. Could it be the sheep that hear the shepherds voice? The elect?

I don't have the time Cygnus.
Your reasoning is very basic and you might want to study up on atonement theories.
ALL means ALL.
Calvinism cannot change the meaning of a word just to suit itself and its theology.

Jesus was not kidnapped.. WE WERE.

The question is BY WHOM?

When you understand the above, we can continue our discussion.
