Is Church of Christ A Cult?

I attended a church of Christ Free the Pastor had me in a chair grilling me over his doctrines, so you might say its from personal experience, most of what i post is from hands on experience..

How often did you attend this particular CoC? How many others have you attended? Have you looked up their official doctrines?

I was at that one for about a year after that I'd had enough would you still have attended or are you going to one today?

So what about that church made it a cult? And if it was a cult, why did you go for a year?

Because one member wanted me to come live with him and his family, he saw that what i was saying wasn't phony i guess, the Lord knows, while there 6 people were saved through prayer and fasting.. why the interest?

Clearly my interest is because you first claimed the CoC was a cult based on what you think two members on these forums said. Then when I asked if you had actually looked up what they teach, you then argued to your having been a member of the CoC. So I am asking on what basis do you now have for calling them a cult.

footnote analogy : while still ignorant of their devices, I was in a cult that was much much worse than anything described here for well over a year, and DIN"T EVEN KNOW IT. it was totally sheer grace of God the Almighty in Christ Jesus that set me free, as I truly sought after Him with all my heart and soul and mind (also His Gift to be able to do so - His provision and accomplishment, nothing in myself could have ever saved me).

I'd like to see the listed doctrines that make CoC a cult. Even CARM doesn't list them as a cult as far as I know and CARM is very conservative/ strict with their view of Christianity..

There were two members that joined about the same time both claiming to be "really born again" and it was over a book name "Muscle and A Shovel" the author of the book was/is Church of Christ, that thread ended up being closed if i remember correctly.. maybe a moderator could dig it out.. :)

Thanks

You know at this moment the members of the church of christ are in their own forums talking about this exact same thing, but in their minds we are the cult.

I have heard similar things TOB. I don't know if this is true for all COC's but some say that you are not even saved just because you don't belong to their denomination. I have heard that they believe they are the only true church. I will say this though, I have personal friends that are COC and whenever we talk about anything related to Christ or church, they never try to convert me or tell me I am in the wrong church.

I have the book in question. Its simply the author's account of how he was led to Jesus though the teaching efforts of a individual he worked with. Its packed with scripture.

God bless,

We believe that in the Bible is contained the word of God, that the Book of Mormon is an added witness for Christ, and that these contain the "fullness of the gospel."

We believe that a New Jerusalem shall be built upon this land "unto the remnant of the seed of Joseph. . . " ". . . which city shall be built, beginning at the Temple Lot."
(3 Ne 9:57-59, 10:1-4; Eth 6:6-8; Revelation to Joseph Smith given Sept, 22 & 23, 1832)

Not Good!

Statement of the council of Apostles: April 21st 2013

We have stated every year that the mission statement of the church is the building up and extension of the Kingdom of God in all the world. An extension of this purpose of the Church of Christ is found in Article # 22. We believe in the literal gathering of Israel, and in the restoration of the ten lost tribes. We are always aware this purpose of God in us is to restore Israel to their God and Savior Jesus Christ and to bring them into the fold of God.

1 Nephi 7:21 And I would, my brethren, that ye should know that all the kindreds of the earth cannot be blessed unless he shall make bare his arm in the eyes of the nations. 22 Wherefore, the Lord God will proceed to make bare his arm in the eyes of all the nations, in bringing about his covenants and his gospel, unto them which are of the house of Israel.

The first action taken in this process is preaching the Restored Gospel wherever opportunity allows. We make this basic assumption: God's people will follow His voice and power. John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

What is the Restored Gospel, and how does it differ from the Gospel of the Kingdom?
