Is it okay if I ask this question?

I have always known about Jesus.I felt like my heart was always geared to Jesus.Even though I was not brought up in a Christian family. My first husband was an atheist and the idea of not knowing God made me feel bad. Then things started happening.Alot of tragedies.I turned to God and asked Him into my life and asked him to help me.Then I started to seriously think of where I wanted to spend eternity.A person can die at any moment.Your next second is in the hands of God.I have truly fallen in love with Jesus Christ.I do not have a religion but I have a daily relationship with God.I have sacrificed many worldly things. My focus is on God and God alone not on this world.

From my understanding of the scripture, I do not believe one can separate Jesus from His church: Matt.16:18; Heb.10:25

Hi Kathi
I'll be glad to try. Could you tell me exactly what you ask about Jn.3:16 which is one of the best known verses in the Bible.

God bless,
w
I did not ask about John 3:16 :confused It is one of the most important verses in the Bible. The main reason for becoming a Christian.

Hi Kathi:
My mistake. I mistook your signature. At my age my sight is diming as well as hearing.

Jesus said in Matt.16:18 He would build His church. Anything Jesus built must be of extreme importance. He said and did build His church. In Acts 20:28 Paul told the Ephesian elders that the church had been purchased with His blood ( the blood of Christ ). Any thing bought by the precious blood of Jesus is of tremendous magnitude. Thus, Jesus' church and that which purchased the church cannot be separated from Him.

I took your statement "I do not have a religion" to mean you did not attend or think the church to be important. Of course, again, I may have misunderstood. There are so many different kinds of churches out there one may easily become confused.
God bless,
w

I do not think a "religion" is important Baptist,Methodist,Lutheran etc" because I think it tends to take our focus from God.There are many who attend Church each and every Sunday.Depending on the Church there can be alot of rituals associated with that Church. Many do not live their lives with Christ the rest of the week. They tend to throw Him aside until next Sunday comes. But the Bible tells us that we should live a life with Christ each and every day. That is why I said I have a relationship with Christ.I give God my life, heart and mind everyday. My experience with attending a Church is that alot of people are more interested in the social aspect of Church.Come in late to service because they are more interested in visiting their friends.I found alot of people as cliqueish. And I have found some Churches to be very worldly.I am not seeing God in Churches.Christ may have had more of a focus point in Churches years ago but I am not seeing it now.I do see Satan in Churches.

Hi Kathi
I agree with all your comments, unfortunately its true. That's why I said there are all kinds of churches out there. However, Jesus has His church out there among them. It can be identified in the scripture. Even those who compose it are not perfect as I'm sure you will agree you are not and I fall far short of His glory myself and if Paul was the chief of sinners I must be just under him in that respect. The best thing that can be said of anyone of us is that we are sinners saved by grace!

Heb.10:25 teaches by inspiration of the Holy Spirit not to "forsake the assembly". In vs.29 the inspired apostle of Christ exposes 3 terrible sins committed by forsaking the assembly. While all sin is sin and I would suppose it may be argued there are no "little sins" the three of Heb.10:29 are not said to be applied to any other. The greatest of all sins is that of Mk.3 etc., which Jesus said would never be forgiven in this age nor the age to come.

We as Christians are the Church and the Bride of Christ. We as Christians sin everyday without even realizing alot of what we do.But.....if we are deliberatly doing something that is against Scripture we do our very best not to do it.We can not just say "Oh well,we will be forgiven so it is no big deal,I am only human".We are not suppose to sin deliberately.

Right! And the next verse after Heb.10:25 which reads "forsake not the assemble" says (vs.26) if we "sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries" vs. 27. It is sinful to forsake the assembling of Christ's church. Its out there, find it.

Are you saying it is a sin to not go to Church?

Not going to Church is not a salvation issue. Not believing in Jesus Christ is John 3:16.
I side with you Kathi, I did not see anywhere it said not going to church is a sin. He was pleading with them not to stop going to church he never said you are sinning by not going.

Not going to Church is not a salvation issue. Not believing in Jesus Christ is John 3:16.

If not going to church is not a salvation issue then Jesus built His church for nothing (Matt.16:18). If not going to church is not a salvation issue then Jesus shed His blood for nothing (Acts 20:28).

Please read Eph. 1:17-23. If not going to church is not a salvation issue then Jesus is the Head of a useless institution. If not going to church is not a salvation issue then He purchased with His blood and is the head of a body which is the fullness of him that filleth all in all. Please note, Kathi, vss 22,23 tell us that the church is His body. The body is the church and the church is His body.

You have stated that the church is the Bride of Christ and that is true. Its found in Eph.5:21-33. Please look especially at vs. 23, "Christ is the head of the church and he is the savior of the body". He is the head of the what? The church! Vs 23 further says He is also the savior of what? The body! What will He save? The church. If you and I and the whole world want to be saved we must be in that body which He is the head and savior of, its just that simple.

Yes, John 3:16 is a wonderful verse. But note what it says. Note that word "believeth". Its a generic word inclusive of all Jesus and His apostles taught. If we do not accept what Jesus and His apostles taught then no matter how much we say about how we believe in and love Jesus we are lost. Jesus said in Jn.14:15: "If ye love me, keep my commandments."

I make no apology for what the scripture has said.
God bless,w

Please read Col.1:12-19. God only has to say something once to make it true. In Col. 1 He says about the same thing again as He did in Eph.1 above. Please note Col.1:18 especially, "He is the head of the body, the church".

How are you getting the idea that "the church" is a specific group of assembled people in a particular location?

Kathi is right.

Hi Deb--Not sure what you had in mind with the above passages but here are 2 quick thoughts:

1. Two or three compose an assembly, Heb.10:25.
2. The words of Mat.18:19,20 were spoken by our Lord before He established his church.

I see Hebrews 10:25, in relationship to the context of who was being spoken to and why. What was the issue of that time, what day was fast approaching?
That is not to say that we should go it alone. But to say one is sinning if they don't go to a building on a certain day is not what this scripture is about.

There is nothing that I can see in Matt. 18:19, 20 that says anything about where, when, or how we fellowship with other Christians. People are the church, the Body of Christ. A man could be on a deserted island and still be in the Body of Christ. When John the Baptist was living in the wilderness, was he saved?

Where is your scripture that says where, when, and how we are to fellowship?
Why are we to fellowship?
