Is the world...

I believe the Bible was inspired by God, but mediated by the imperfect men who authored and translated it.

Best wishes, 2RM.

So, does God not have the capability of getting you an adequete instruction book through the ages and into your hand?

There is nothing too hard for God. Do you understand that the Holy Spirit speaks to us and instructs us in the Word, whenever you read it and meditate on it? This is fact Brother. Can man defeat God? Surely you jest.

Have you ever been pondering some spiritual issue and form a question in your mind...then, wondering if it's spoken about in scripture so you pick up the Bible and flop it open exactly to the right page by accident, and it answers your question! Have you ever had that happen?

I have. One time, I had a question that I was chewing on and so of course I prayed about it and asked God for an answer. Well God didn't answer me, so I kept praying about it. No answer. I forget what it was about but it was important at the time. So I kept praying about it. And for like 3 weeks? or so I think and I didn't get any answer. So I forgot about it, oh well. And about a week later after that, I pick up my Bible to read some. Nothing particular in mind, it's just been a few and I have to keep reading. So I flip it open and there's my answer! It's like my eyes were drawn right to it and it jumped off the page at me! It was divine moment.

So when the scripture jumps off the page at you or speaks to your heart like this, that is called receiving a Rhema from God. That's God speaking to us through His Word. It's how the Holy Spirit operates. Holy Spirit's job is to teach us and tutor us and lead us into all truth. And He will do this if you stick your nose in the book and participate. If you don't read your Bible, then how can He give you a rhema and teach you? No wonder so many people say, "God doesn't talk to them". I can testify that He speaks to all of us, every day. It's them who are not listening.

When you learned some about the Lord and got saved, what's the first thing that happened then? Someone stick a Bible in your hand?

So question, if you've given your life to the Lord and are saved...then, you believe that God is true...and if God is true then His Word is true. rumour has it that He made sure that you got a copy of His words and instructions to you for your benefit for when after you receive Him as Lord.

So it stands to reason that God is true then His Word is true. And if some of is true, then all of it has to be true. Come on Brother, what do you mean, all of it isn;t true?! Sorta laughable because we both know the truth. You said that God answered a prayer for you. Ok, I believe you, God has answered a lot of my prayers! (wanna hear some testimonies?!!).

Get real then. God isn't going to let a half baked Bible get into your hand, God don't roll like that! So if any of it is true then it's all true.

(On Judgement Day:)
So...did you read my book I left for you?

Uh, well, uh uh, they said it was full of half truths and lies.

So did you go read it for yourself to see while praying to me for guideance so that I could reveal myself to you in greater ways?

I created the universe and you, and you doubted that I could speak to you through my Word...??

(Boy what a embarassing convorsation that would be...):oops2

God has the capability, to be sure. But He prefers to work through us sinners, not despite us. Doubtless He has His reasons.

... perfect because it's imperfect? I sometimes like to consider this paradox. If the world was perfect, and had no imperfections, there would be nothing of any importance left to do. I think we would quickly grow bored.

Best wishes to you all. 2RM.
Do you find yourself being beckoned to "perfection" as much as it is possible for a human to experience in the world's current state ?
Certainly in our darkest hours the natural tendency of our hearts is to seek perfection, here and now.

Do you find that as you are drawn closer to perfection you become increasingly bored ?
This may very well be the case.

So are you saying that you do not believe that the word of God is true?

Doubtless He has His reasons is a dodge. Is God's word true or not?

FHG,

Dottie Rambo sings about something the Book of Revelation emphasizes about the New Jerusalem: "Tears will never stain the streets of that city."

I'm blessed to know there is no place for death and weeping in the New Jerusalem.

Amen, in my minds eye I see the New Jerusalem being like that of the garden of Eden in all its beauty as there will never be evil allowed within it.

By the 'Word of God' I presume you mean the Bible. The scriptures within it were the state of the art 4000 to 1600 years ago. We have made theological and philosophical progress since then. So some of it is true, and some of it isn't.

So, how do you decide which parts of the Bible are true or false? Which scales are you using?

Well, some of it is quite obvious in the current age. Take Darwin vs Genesis, for example. Others are less so; take Jesus vs Leviticus. And some is not obvious at all, depending on the nature and character of God the Father as Jesus revealed them to us. One thing is for sure, however: if there is an inconsistency, something has to be thrown out.

Speaking of inconsistencies, do you care to offer a guess as to approximately what percentage of the total of science books ever written in support of evolution have had to be declared obsolete & incorrect by the self same scientific community?
Take for instance the evolutionary conceived and highly touted for decades concept of a " simple life form " ?
Nowhere in evolutionary writings today will you find the rallying cry of " simple life form" written, let alone promoted.
Further scientific discovery causing such blind, borne of pure desire, evolutionary rallying cries to be "Thrown Out".
" Thrown out"
not by choice I might add, but begrudgingly and with much indignation.
The begrudging indignation on display a clear red flag that there is much more than pure unbiased science driving the evolutionary train that has derailed countless times to date.
Kind Regards, Consecrated Life.

That is the way science progresses; thesis, antithesis, synthesis. Science is now, and probably always will be, an unfinished project. That is no reason to dismiss its findings, thus far.

There's every reason to dismiss earlier findings which were wrong.

Besides, science doesn't prove the Bible...the Bible proves science. Truth science.

So we all make mistakes sometimes. You, me, and Darwin. So you're in good company, lol. They are way past Darwin now. Their looking for other things and all of them point to God being real.

Even the Bible, Brother. That is a supernatural book which came to us from outside our time domain and that is provable many times over.

It's basically a book of Prophecy. God tells the end from the beginning and He always has. Do you realize how many Bible Prophecies have already been fulfilled, and that, they were all written way before that? So the Bible is proving itself over time and is well established as truth.

And I'll say it again, if any of it is true then it's all true.
Or maybe you think that man is able to thwart God?! Lol.:nono

Heb 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
Heb 13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For it is a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.

2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Nothing of the word of God has ever changed other than that which Christ has already fulfilled within the OT laws. Many get carried away with strange doctrines of man that are not the doctrines of Christ. Either you believe the whole that is written in the Bible by the Prophets and Apostles or you believe none of it as you can not just pick out the parts you like. Saying parts of the Bible are not true is blasphemy against God.

So your proclamation concerning the dismissing of "inconsistencies" has no application in your mind to the progression of science as it is forced to jettison formerly established scientific fact to the waste dump of history ?

"One thing is for sure, however: if there is an inconsistency, something has to be thrown out."

You obviously do not realize the application your correct estimation of an imperfect and dying world has to this detour you have made in mentioning your obvious reverence for man's Johnny Come Lately scientifically established facts over and above whatever the Word of God has to say on the matter .
You have literally swerved into it where your topic being the fate of this imperfect world is concerned.
Connecting the dots then, what fate has science established to be the ultimate destruction of this imperfect world ?
And about how many years ago did scientific study establish what would be the certain ultimate demise of planet earth?
Someone who studies the sciences as much as yourself should be able to answer this in very short order.

....Many get carried away with strange doctrines of man that are not the doctrines of Christ. Either you believe the whole that is written in the Bible by the Prophets and Apostles or you believe none of it...
On the contrary, I see no reason for this 'all or nothing' approach. I believe some, but not the entirety, of the scriptures. And I am quite happy that way, following what seems to me to be true,

I would just add, that a God who establishes His creation across billions of light years and billions of age years seems to me to be far greater than a God who just snaps His fingers and says 'Let there be life!' To think otherwise seems to me to run counter to the science, and belittles Him.

Best wishes, 2RM.

So far as the world is concerned, the expansion of the sun. So far as the universe is concerned, heat death. Look them up.

2RM,

So it's now obvious which side you are on. It's not on the side of Scripture but on Darwin.

When there is a "supposed" inconsistency you throw out Scripture. Is that what you're saying? Sounds to me like I'm dealing with a person promoting relativism.

I'm sticking with the God-breathed Scriptures providing the absolutes (2 Tim 3:16-17 NIV).
