Quath, Lets say you told your daughters not to play around with matches because they could get burned, and not only could they get burned but they would face punishment from you if they should choose to disobey your rules.
Do you think the statements and warnings you gave your daughters are open to 'interpretation', or are they pretty self explanatory?
How would you feel if one of them said, 'well dad, I played with matches because I didn't interpret what you said as telling me I couldn't, however my other sister interpreted differently and she didn't play with the matches.'
Which one obeyed and which one put a spin on your words? ;-)
That is a good point. Sometimes our statements seem obvious. But many times, there are interpretations. For example, if she drew a picture on the match cover, she techiically did play with them. However, she did not do what I feared she would do. Or maybe the lights went out and one decided to light a candle. She may feel that lighting the candle was not playing with them but using them wisely instead.
Words are not perfect. So it takes questions and responses sometimes to make something clear. Unfortunately this is not really available from God. I know that some people think that it is from the Holy Spirit, but everyone who says they have the Holy Spirit comes up with a different interpretation.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die
Well, I hate to point out, but the serpent did not lie. Adam did not die that day. Adam was not immortal according to Genesis, so Adam was going to die one day anyway. If Adam died spiritually, that means that spirits are not immortal. But I guess everyone interprets this story differently.
any idiot can see that it is a metaphor or a parable that is being used as an example in order to get the value of a specific moral relayed.
So are you saying that all the Christians in the past that thought the Sun didn't move were idiots?
The MORALS that all people of God are meant to live by, which are written of in the bible, are not fuzzy or left for guessing as to the meaning of what is sin and what is not.
So here is some morality in the Bible. Tell me which of these are Holy Truth that still stand?
1. It is ok to beat your slave so long as the slave does not die two days later.
2. Eating lobster is an abomination.
3. Wearing cotton/polyester is an abomination.
4. It is morally ok to kill your enemy's children.
5. A raped woman should marry her rapist.
6. Pre-maritial sex for women should result in killing them in front of their parents.
7. You should kill homosexuals and Wiccians.
8. Men with crushed testicles should not go to church.
The sad fact is that we all know these are wrong. Yet Christians can not admit it without saying that the Old Testament had bad morality. So they walk a line of accepting and rejecting such horrible things.

What caused my homosexuality? I suspect it was latent within my genetic framework and was stirred into action by my environment.
One of my friends is gay. I asked him when he figured out he was gay. He said that in middle school he realized he was ignoring the girls and checking out the guys. I asked him what he thought of that and he replied, "I thought, 'Crap! I'm gay.'" He was kind of saddened by it because he knew what he would have to face in the world.
