The following is a rather funny clip I saw about this contraption men can hook themselves up to in order to simulate a baby. Maybe watch first before continuing.

In Matthew 24:8 and Mark 13:8 it is talking about the signs and what not, but it specifically mentions various signs on earth as being a sign before all things must come to pass. Interesting it uses an illustration of a women in labor to bring home this point. Now I haven't had a child, but my wife tells me it is less than comfortable. Now when the baby crowns, it has been given the term "ring of fire." I heard it hurts.

Could this just be a big, ginormous coincidence Jesus likened the end of age with a woman in labor, and we have, what is known in this part of the world anyways a term describing a point in a birth? Could it be what is spoken of in Revelation 6:12 and Revelation 8:5?
