Italy back in lockdown!!!

That's been tried three or four times in MN too but with a majority Democratic legislature, it's an almost impossible task. It is said they are following the science and yet, these decisions are split along party lines. Since when is science delegated by party affiliation?
That’s too bad. But honestly, even the Democrats were upset with her.

last March you couldn’t buy flooring, paint or gardening supplies from Home Depot.. You couldn’t buy clothing, or even a car seat for a Baby at Walmart. You could take a boat on the water, but only as long as it wasn’t motorized. If you were in construction, too bad. Unless that is, you worked road construction because our governor ran on the promise of fixing the roads. BTW, my son just renewed his drivers license today. It used to be $15, now it’s $38. His tabs were something like $280. His car is a 2015.

All hospitals were shut down to serve COVID only patience. One hospital in Metro Detroit laid off over 3,000 employees. All elective surgery was cancelled. I have a bad hip, I’m glad I got in a week before they shut down to get my shot. It doesn’t matter what political party you belong to, when you need a cortisone shot or elective surgery to eliminate the pain and your governor says no, well.... let’s just say a lot of Democrats signed the petition too. And yes, the list goes on, but I’m tired of typing lol!

We had this too last year.
A store that sold all types of products were allowed to sell ONLY necessary items.
How does that make any sense?
A person is already in the store...what difference would it make?

Maybe to be fair to those specialty stores that had to close down completely?
So that business would return to THEM when the stores reopened?
Who can know...nothing was ever really explained to us.

Persons with cancer went untreated or were afraid to go to a hospital for chemo, or whatever they needed.

What a mess.

Our restaurants just opened to 50% but few are enforcing it. Most are at or near capacity.

Our governor was bad, like really bad. So, a petition went around and we stripped her of her executive powers. She bypassed it by using the health department. But long story short she couldn’t lock it down like she did.

This whole COVID virus is an odd virus. I know a gal and her husband who thought it was a hoax. Wouldn’t wear a mask, wouldn’t sanitize their hands etc. she got COVID, tested positive and laughed because it wasn’t much more than a head cold that lasted a few short days. Three days later her hubby went to the ER because he couldn’t breath. He was in for a week, they discharged him and days later he was back and continued to get worse and he spent almost 3,weeks in ICU. He just went home last week... he doesn’t think COVID is a hoax anymore. Imagine that.

It’s so odd though, she gets a runny nose and he almost dies. My neighbor had the same experience. She got really sick and her husband got nothing...
Right.
Why is it not treated like any other virus?
People die from the flu and from pneumonia and the mortality rate is the same.
Even with the flu...some get very sick and some get symptoms like a mild cold.
I think we hear about the deaths all the time and it scares people....
Do we ever hear the deaths from the flu on the news?
No!

I stumbled upon a calculator on the Johns Hopkins University website that gives an idea of odds of dying from Covid-19 if I happen to get infected. I answered a few questions and got the result. Said my chance of dying from Covid would be .0031% or 3.1 per 100,000.

The questions asked were....
age
zip code
gender
race
height
weight
smoker/nonsmoker
underlying health conditions from a list provided

If you're interested, here's a link to the calculator.

Just did mine.
Here are the results:

COVID-19 Mortality Risk Calculation

Based on the information you have provided, the tool estimates that you have 0.48 (95% CI: 0.43 - 0.52 ) times the risk of dying from COVID-19 compared to the average risk for the US population.

Based on the estimated risk, you are categorized to be at Closer to or lower than average risk based on the following chart:

Does this mean 4.8 per 100,000?

You need to look under the chart that comes up to find the risk per 100,000. Here's my result.

I did a quick search and only about 61,000 people die a year from the flu in the US. Covid has already accounted for over 500,000 in the US. I personally know people who have had Covid and for the ones that didn't just have a "head cold", I'm pretty sure they would take the flu over Covid any day of the week.
Yes, I think the 500,000 is an inflated number. But it's not inflated enough to bring it even close to the number of flu deaths.

OK. This would make sense. I don't see any figures here...that's part of the problem.
I know two men that died of covid just this week.
4 so far....one had complications from an existing condition.
One was only 60 years old.

Yeah....I was in that green color too.
My husband and I are scheduled for the vaccine...it's done online.
I'm hoping for April and hope everyone is done by this autumn and things could get back to normal.
But it'll take some time...so many businesses closed..so many out of work....

245,000 - 640,000
That's the range for flu deaths yearly

World-wide?
U.S.A.?
I can't figure out what the difference is in numbers.
When comparisons are done, it seems to come out the same - about 3% mortality rate.
I think we just can't know - for whatever reason.
the 500,000 for covid figure goes with these figures for the flu
